Operation Dudula women released on warning after targeting migrants at Soweto Clinic
The women, aged between 49 and 60, appeared in the Orlando Magistrate's Court in Gauteng on Monday after the incident at the Lilian Ngoyi Clinic in Diepkloof last Thursday.
The women allegedly forcefully entered the maternity ward of the clinic and proceeded to demand that patients produce their identity documents as proof of nationality.
The alleged aggressive questioning disrupted medical services and caused significant distress among patients and healthcare workers alike.
In response to the escalating situation, clinic staff and patients took the drastic step of locking the women inside one of the labour wards. Police were then called to the scene to intervene.
Gauteng police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo confirmed the arrest of the three suspects.
According to Masondo, they had been charged with contravening the National Health Act, public violence, and other related offences.

Three women from Operation Dudula were let go with a warning after being arrested for blocking foreigners from gaining access to a clinic in Soweto recently. Despite this, the vigilante group has continued with its operation, disregarding the message from the Orlando Magistrate's Court. KwaZulu-Natal violence monitor Mary de Haas told IOL that the Operation Dudula members should have been fined or given a suspended sentence. "It goes beyond the protesters; the people who should have stopped it were the police and hospital security," De Haas said. "There should have been some sort of penalty, not just a warning." But what does a 'warning' denote? Criminologist Thabang Bogopa explained that when people are released on warning, it means that they were charged, but given free bail. "The South African Constitution allows for people to be given free bail. For example, if students are striking at a university, the best thing for them would be to be charged, released, given free bail, and a court date for them to appear in court. "This allows the state to go and gather more evidence and send in the case docket to the prosecution for a decision regarding the enrollment of the case," he said. The women's case is scheduled to return to court on September 10. However, Bogopa added that the state might struggle with witnesses.

Police on the hunt for hijackers
Gauteng police are hot on the heels of suspects who abandoned a BMW X5 in Kaalfontein and fled the scene on foot into the Themba Khoza informal settlement. The suspects, the number of which is not yet known, were allegedly involved in an attempted truck hijacking in Sandton on August 8. Read more: Police arrest suspect in connection with hijacking a courier van in Sandton Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo said members of the Johannesburg Flying Squad received a report to look out for a black BMW X5, which was later spotted in Midrand, where a high-speed chase began, all the way to Kaalfontein, about 8.8km away. 'The suspects abandoned the car and fled on foot into the informal settlement. Inside the vehicle, police found two firearms, with a magazine loaded with ammunition, blue lights, and SAPS reflector jackets. The search for the suspects is currently underway.' Two police helicopters were deployed to assist in the search, with shots fired, but no casualties were reported. Masondo said their preliminary investigation revealed that the X5 was hijacked in Germiston last month, while one of the two recovered firearms was stolen in Ivory Park. Masondo said they believe that the suspects are part of a syndicate behind multiple truck hijackings. 'Their modus operandi involves posing as police officers, pulling trucks over, hijacking them, and making off with the goods.' NPA separates cases of couple charged after Eldorado Park girl's death
The case against the parents of a four-year-old girl from Eldorado Park in Soweto, who is the victim of abuse, has been postponed until Monday. Both the father and mother will remain in custody while the state prepares to oppose bail. The four-year-old girl, who is not named to protect the identity of her three-year-old brother, passed away on Friday at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital. She was in ICU since August 6 after she was assaulted and nearly drowned, allegedly by her father. Provincial SAPS spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo previously confirmed to Soweto Urban News that the initial case docket of attempted murder was changed to murder after her death. According to Soweto Urban News, the father and mother each made a brief, separate appearance at the Protea Magistrate's Court yesterday. The father of the four-year-old is facing five counts: Murder, rape, compelled rape, child abuse, and assault of a minor. The mother, who is reportedly pregnant, is facing a charge of failing to immediately report a sexual offence committed against a minor. The presiding magistrate postponed the matter to allow for a formal bail application. NPA spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane explained to the media outside the court that while both accused were arrested, the NPA decided to separate the two cases. This was due to a lack of evidence that the alleged offences were committed jointly. Cases separated 'Now that we know alleged offences are not intertwined, we then had to separate the two matters for the mother to appear alone as well as the father,' said Mjonondwane. 'With the case against the father, he is now facing five charges, we have added three additional charges to the two that he was facing in his first appearance. While the mother on the second docket is facing the charge of failing to immediately report a sexual offence against a minor.' She added that according to the Sexual Offences and Related Matters Amendment Act 32 of 2007, one has a duty to report such a crime. Mjonondwane stated that the state will be opposing bail, and reasons will be advanced in court. Calls for justice Bandile Masuku, the chairperson of the portfolio committee, said that committee members were there to pay their respects to the family and community of Eldorado Park. 'This is one of the many [cases] we continually get reported on in the country and it is important that every time we get such cases as a community and legislature we rally behind the fight against women and children abuse,' said Masuku. Eldorado Park ward councillor Juwairiya Kaldine told the media that she believes the country's justice system is failing women and children and that the case should be handled by a female magistrate. 'The government of today sitting in legislature need to relook at the constitution of this country because the constitution we are currently guided by [does] not stand [up] for women and children in this country,' said Kaldine.
