Bryson Stott hits a 3-run homer to help the Phillies beat the Marlins 4-2
MIAMI (AP) — Bryson Stott hit a three-run homer, Ranger Suárez pitched seven effective innings and the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Miami Marlins 4-2 on Wednesday night.
Suárez (6-1) permitted one run and four hits in another solid performance since his return from an early season back injury. He struck out eight and walked two.
The veteran left-hander has only allowed eight runs since giving up seven in his first start of the season on May 4.
Stott capped Philadelphia's four-run fourth inning against Adam Mazur (0-1) with his fifth homer of the season. J.T. Realmuto hit an RBI single before Stott drove a first-pitch fastball deep to center.
Mazur struck out five and allowed five hits in 5 2/3 innings in his Marlins debut. He was recalled from Triple-A Jacksonville.
The Marlins closed to 4-2 in the ninth on Dane Myers' one-out RBI single. They had a runner in scoring position before Matt Strahm struck out Connor Norby and got Nick Fortes to fly out for his fourth save.
Alec Bohm singled twice and doubled for Philadelphia in his second multihit outing of the series and sixth in his last nine games overall.
Nick Castellanos doubled and singled in his return to Philadelphia's lineup after being benched the day before for making 'an inappropriate comment' when he was pulled for a defensive replacement on Monday.
Norby hit a solo shot off Suárez that went 415 feet to center to make it 4-1 in the fifth.

Buss family agrees to sell majority stake of Los Angeles Lakers in reported record $10B deal
The Buss family has agreed to sell majority ownership of the Los Angeles Lakers, one of the most storied franchises in all of sports, to Los Angeles Dodgers owner Mark Walter, a source familiar with the agreement told CNN. The valuation of the agreement is approximately $10 billion, representing the most lucrative deal for a professional sports team, according to the Associated Press. ESPN's Shams Charania was first to report the agreed sale. CNN has reached out to the Lakers and Dodgers for comment. Aside from being the chairman and controlling owner of the Dodgers, Walter is the CEO and founder of the holding company TWG Global. The diversified business also holds stakes in the WNBA's Los Angeles Sparks, the Premier League's Chelsea FC and the newly formed Cadillac Formula One team, which is scheduled to make its debut on the grid in 2026, among other sports franchises. On Wednesday, TWG said Walter is entering into an agreement to acquire additional interests in the Lakers. He has owned a minority stake in the franchise since 2021. Basketball Hall of Famer Jerry Buss bought the Lakers in 1979 and oversaw the franchise winning 10 NBA titles. After his death in 2013, his daughter Jeanie Buss took over the role as governor of one of the most successful franchises in sports. Los Angeles added another Larry O'Brien trophy to the collection in 2020, led by LeBron James, the team's 17th NBA championship. Diamondbacks OF Carroll exits game at Toronto after being hit on left hand by pitch
TORONTO — Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Corbin Carroll exited Wednesday's 8-1 loss at Toronto in the eighth inning after he was hit on his left hand by a pitch. Manager Torey Lovullo said X-rays did not reveal a fracture. Carroll stayed in to run the bases after being hit by a 91 mph sinker from rookie left-hander Justin Bruihl. But he was replaced before the bottom half of the eighth. Alek Thomas took Carroll's spot in the lineup, with Tim Tawa moving from center field to right. Lovullo said Carroll was hit on the fleshy part of the hand below his pinkie, resulting in a contusion. 'It's a very dangerous spot when you're talking about that bone on the pinkie side,' Lovullo said. 'It got a lot of meat, so we're grateful for that.' Carroll's status for Thursday's series finale was unclear. 'I wouldn't be surprised if he tells me he wants to play tomorrow,' Lovullo said. 'We're going to keep an open mind, we're going to continue to evaluate him tonight through the night and into the morning and see how he feels.' Carroll tripled and scored Arizona's only run.
