According to a report from Globo Esporte the player is valued at £56.2m and United recently sent a scout to watch him during Internacional's Copa do Brasil match against Fluminense.
The game, held at the iconic Maracana Stadium, ended in a 1-1 draw, which led to Internacional's elimination from the competition.
However Mathias still managed to leave a strong impression despite limited minutes.
The scout in attendance was Alexandre Torres, a former player and the son of Brazilian football legend Carlos Alberto Torres.

Torres, who currently works as an scout for United, was reportedly keeping a close eye on the teenager's performance throughout the match.
Mathias came off the bench during the game but his brief appearance was enough to capture Torres' attention.
The young forward showed glimpses of his potential with sharp movement, strong positioning and a physical presence that clearly stood out even in a high-pressure match.
Before United's scouting mission, Mathias had already been on the radar of several other clubs.

PSV Eindhoven were among the first European sides to express interest, reportedly considering a move to bring the striker to the Eredivisie.
Additionally, two Brazilian investment groups have attempted to secure part-ownership of his economic rights.

However, none of those efforts have yet materialised into a completed transfer or partnership.
One unnamed Premier League club has gone a step further than the rest, having already submitted a letter of intent regarding their interest in the young forward, signalling potential negotiations.
Standing at 6ft 3in, Mathias is a physically imposing striker who combines strength with impressive speed and agility.
This rare combination of attributes has earned him early comparisons to world-class centre-forward Robert Lewandowski.

Like Lewandowski, Mathias is known for his intelligent movement and ability to find space in tight areas.
He is also comfortable dropping deep to link up play, working effectively with midfielders and wide players to create attacking opportunities.
Manchester United, still in the midst of rebuilding under Ruben Amorim, have already signed Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo in response to finishing 15th in the league last season.
They have also been linked to Gianluigi Donnarumma as questions remain of goalkeeper Andre Onana.
There is also an on-going drive to get players out of the door with the likes of Alejandro Garnacho and Jadon Sancho all set to leave before the transfer window shuts next month.

How Manchester City and Pep Guardiola got the 'fire in the belly' back: Erling Haaland's targets, the stars with most to prove, Hugo Viana's immediate impact and the truth about Gianluigi Donnarumma and Rodrygo

Pep Guardiola burst through one wing of an aristocratic villa that was in danger of becoming a little claustrophobic. A hoodie on, the guy sweltered in Sicilian heat at gone 9pm. A seemingly never-ending day still had some embers left. He looked frazzled and the season, a season that could define the final acts of Guardiola's time in England, hadn't even started yet.

Premier League to investigate after Antoine Semenyo reports racist abuse

Match referee Anthony Taylor stopped play in the 29th minute and spoke with managers Arne Slot and Andoni Iraola before respective captains Virgil van Dijk and Adam Smith were called over to the dug-outs. PA Sport understands police officers went into the referee's room at half-time, while an anti-discrimination message was read out to the Anfield crowd. 'This is in line with the Premier League's on-field anti-discrimination protocol. 'The incident at Anfield will now be fully investigated. We offer our full support to the player and both clubs. 'Racism has no place in our game, or anywhere in society. We will continue to work with stakeholders and authorities to ensure our stadiums are an inclusive and welcoming environment for all.' Sky Sports co-commentator Gary Neville said: 'It overshadows what should be an amazing night. First game of the Premier League season, a beautiful day, 62,000 fans in the stadium and that boy (Semenyo) basically has been racially abused and has had to go over to a referee to complain about it. 'I can't even begin to think what would be going through someone's mind, however it's happened and it'll keep on happening and it's a sorry state.' Fellow co-commentator Jamie Carragher added: 'A shocking incident rightly reported to the referee.' The incident comes two days after Tottenham's Mathys Tel received racist abuse online after missing a penalty in his side's UEFA Super Cup win against Paris St Germain. The Football Association said it was 'concerned' about the allegation of racism towards Semenyo and that it would ensure 'appropriate action' would be taken. — FA Spokesperson (@FAspokesperson) August 15, 2025 A statement from the FA read: 'We are very concerned about the allegation of discrimination from an area of the crowd, which was reported to the match officials during the Premier League fixture between Liverpool and Bournemouth. 'Incidents of this nature have no place in our game and we will work closely with the match officials, the clubs and the relevant authorities to establish the facts and ensure the appropriate action is taken.' After the incident, Semenyo scored twice in the second half to help bring Bournemouth back from two goals down at Anfield before Liverpool went on to eventually win the contest 4-2. Cherries' Adam Smith told Sky Sports News afterwards: 'It shouldn't be happening. I don't know how Ant's played on to be honest and come up with those goals. It's totally unacceptable. 'Something needs to be done. Taking the knee isn't having an effect. We're supporting him and hopefully he'll be OK. 'I wanted him to react because that's what I would have done, but this shows what type of man he is…to come up with those goals showed the type of guy he is. 'To be fair the Liverpool players were very supportive as well towards Antoine and the rest of the team. It was handled in the right way but…so angry. 'I don't know what else we can do. No one's getting it. I don't know what to say anymore. I just feel for Ant…shocking.' Liverpool issued a statement which read: 'Liverpool Football Club is aware of an allegation of racist abuse made during our Premier League game against AFC Bournemouth. 'We condemn racism and discrimination in all forms, it has no place in society or football. 'The club is unable to comment further as tonight's alleged incident is the subject of an ongoing police investigation, which we will support fully.'

Mikel Arteta insists Arsenal can finally strike title gold if they ‘keep digging'

Mikel Arteta has insisted Arsenal will strike gold if they 'keep digging' as they start their push to win a first Premier League title since 2004 with a trip to Manchester United on Sunday. In May, Arsenal completed a run of finishing second in three successive Premier League campaigns – matching the club's record from 1998-99 to 2000-01, before winning the title in 2001-02. They have spent almost £200m on players this summer. Viktor Gyökeres is expected to lead the line against United and the midfielder Martín Zubimendi is also likely to make his debut. Arteta's side face a tricky run, with a trip to the champions, Liverpool, in their third match, before they face Manchester City at home on 21 September. But the Arsenal manager insisted they could draw on their previous experience to get over the line. 'You keep digging, digging, digging and you have to be digging because one day the gold is going to be there,' he said. 'That's all the time. When I've been taught, when I've been educated, that's it. For three seasons we've had more points than any other team in this league, which is incredible. That's how you have all the consistency. Now we have to do it in a season to have one more point or the same amount of points and more goals different than any other team. That's the objective.' City have actually accumulated four more points than Arsenal's 247 over the past three seasons. Those clubs have spent similar gross amounts this summer but Liverpool have outstripped them and could add to their squad. Arteta confirmed Arsenal were also looking to bring in more players amid interest in Crystal Palace's Eberechi Eze but believes they are capable of competing regardless. 'I think we have great versatility, very different qualities in relation to the opposition as well,' he said. 'We can manipulate that and have some great cohesion within those units so we are very happy with that.' The form of Martin Ødegaard will be crucial after he endured a testing season that yielded only three goals and eight assists in the league. Arteta said that despite suggestions from Tony Adams – who led Arsenal to the Double in 2002 – that Declan Rice should take over the captaincy, the Norwegian was the almost unanimous choice in a vote conducted this week by his staff and the rest of the players. 'My opinion is clear and it's not just my opinion, it's all the staff and especially the players,' he said.
