Cops recover stolen Genting casino chips worth RM2 million

(Bernama pic) KUANTAN: Police have recovered 200 casino chips worth RM2 million, part of a larger haul of 300 chips stolen from Genting Highlands in Bentong on Aug 2. Pahang police chief Yahaya Othman said a man came forward to hand over the casino chips following a media report on the matter on Friday.
Advertisement He had bought the chips, each valued at RM10,000, from the suspect, who was involved in a casino junket. 'The man, who was also involved in a junket at the casino, purchased the 200 chips from the suspect at the Genting Grand lobby on Aug 2 without any written agreement,' Yahaya said at a press conference here today. He said that police, in cooperation with Interpol, were tracking down the suspect, who had fled the country with the remaining 100 chips worth RM1 million. Yahaya said CCTV footage showed the suspect taking the chips and leaving the casino before heading to KLIA the same day. The case is being investigated under Section 408 of the Penal Code for criminal breach of trust. Man dies after being stabbed in front of his family home in Seremban
SEREMBAN: A man who had been engaged for just two weeks was fatally stabbed in front of his family home in Taman Sri Pagi. In the incident at 6.50pm, Muhammad Amirul Rasyid Mohd Niza, 28, was stabbed in the chest by a 31-year-old man. Tragically, the single father had planned to shop for his wedding gifts on the night of the incident. The victim's younger brother, Muhammad Amirul Hakim, 27, told Sinar Harian that he was chatting with the deceased outside their house when a car stopped nearby. "I thought it was my brother's friend. But a man got out of the car, approached us, and without saying anything, stabbed my brother in the chest. "I immediately screamed and held onto the suspect to prevent him from escaping while cradling my blood-soaked brother," he said. He added that the suspect attempted to flee but was apprehended by residents who tied him up with a rope," he said, adding that the victim was still alive at that point. "There was so much blood, and my mother fainted upon seeing my brother's condition. At the time of the incident, 10 of my other siblings were at home. What happened was a huge shock to our family because it occurred so suddenly," he said. The deceased had just returned home after taking his only child out for a walk. Since separating from his wife a few years ago, the deceased's child had been cared for by the family. "The deceased worked at a restaurant and stayed at a worker's hostel in Taman Lavender Height, Senawang. He had been engaged for two weeks and planned to marry this year. "Last night, he was supposed to buy his wedding gifts," he said. Muhammad Amirul Hakim stated that he and his family did not know the suspect and were unsure of the motive behind the incident. "To my knowledge, the deceased had no enemies. I was very close to him, and usually, wherever he went, we would go together," he said. The body of the deceased arrived at Surau Taman Sri Pagi for prayers at 2.48pm before being buried at the Islamic Cemetery in Senawang, Forest Height. Previously, Seremban District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Hatta Che Din stated that initial investigations revealed the incident stemmed from a misunderstanding between the suspect and the victim. "The suspect allegedly stabbed the victim in the chest with a knife, causing the victim to die at the scene. A medical officer from Hospital Tuanku Jaafar who arrived at the location confirmed the victim's death at 7.28pm," he said. He added that the suspect was apprehended with the help of the public, and the knife used was seized. The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code, and the suspect is remanded until August 18. "The exact motive behind the incident is still under investigation, and the public with relevant information is urged to come forward to assist in the investigation," he said.

Uniformed officer remanded for alleged abetment in false credit card claims of RM55,000
SEREMBAN — The Negeri Sembilan branch of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has remanded a uniformed officer suspected of abetment in submitting false details for a company credit card payment claim for a hotel booking totalling RM55,000 for personal gain. The four-day remand order until Aug 15 was issued by Magistrate Saiful Sayoti after allowing the MACC's application at the Magistrate's Court today. According to sources, the suspect, a man in his 20s, was detained at about 4pm yesterday when he appeared to give a statement at the state MACC office. 'Initial investigations found that the suspect conspired with a clerk of a tourism company based in the capital who was previously remanded on July 16. Both suspects are believed to have committed the act from March 2023 to February 2024 by submitting company credit card payment claim documents containing false details of hotel bookings for supposedly official company business but actually for personal gain,' he said. Meanwhile, the state MACC director Awgkok Ahmad Taufik Putra Awg Ismail, when contacted, confirmed the arrest and said the case is being investigated under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009. — BERNAMA

Uniformed officer remanded for abetting false RM55,000 credit card claims
SEREMBAN: A uniformed officer has been remanded for four days over suspected involvement in falsifying credit card claims worth RM55,000. The Negeri Sembilan Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) secured the remand order until 15 August from Magistrate Saiful Sayoti. The suspect, a man in his 20s, was detained yesterday afternoon while giving a statement at the state MACC office. Sources revealed the officer allegedly conspired with a tourism company clerk, who was previously remanded on 16 July. Both are accused of submitting fraudulent hotel booking claims under the guise of company business for personal gain between March 2023 and February 2024.
