Super 60 Legends USA has recently welcomed Sri Lanka's Thisara Perera and Bangladesh's accomplished all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan to the inaugural edition of the tournament, scheduled to take place over 12 days from August 5 to August 16.
The most prominent figure in Bangladeshi and international cricket, Shakib's involvement with the Detroit Falcons will significantly enhance Super 60 Legends USA's international lineup. His participation promises to ensure the franchise's progress and bolster its bowling strength.
Discussing his participation in Super 60 Legends USA, Bangladesh cricketer Shakib Al Hasan remarked, 'Playing in a unique setting, especially such as in the United States of America, definitely encourages you to embrace formats like the 60-ball game. Even though I've played a lot of T10 cricket, this seems like a great opportunity to take part in the sport in a competitive setting.
'This is a format where elite players want to come and compete and push themselves, all of which sharpens your overall game. I am happy that through my participation, I am able to add and contribute towards the vision of the tournament and that of the Detroit Falcons squad."
Thisara Perera, who began his career as a bowler and opener for the Under-19 national team, has always embraced new challenges in the T10 format, including playing competitive cricket in his home country.
Expressing his excitement about participating in Super 60 Legends USA, Perera shared, 'For me, it's exciting to play in a tournament like Super 60 Legends USA because it brings together top players in a country where cricket is growing rapidly. It's unique to play in the United States because the goal is to inspire new fans and demonstrate the excitement of this 60-ball format. Players perform at their best under the fast-paced, high-pressure environment, and I'm excited to be a part of it."
With Super 60 Legends USA, fans can anticipate action-packed matches featuring big hitting, fast runs, and thrilling finishes in the dynamic 60-ball cricket format.
The tournament aims to expand cricket's appeal to younger markets and demographics, including the increasing interest in the United States, positioning it as a game-changer for a new generation of fans.

Yashasvi Jaiswal Vs Shubman Gill: Ex-IND Player Makes His Pick For 2025 Asia Cup

Last Updated: Aakash Chopra thinks Yashasvi Jaiswal has a slight edge over Shubman Gill for India's 2025 Asia Cup squad due to Jaiswal's T20 performance and style fitting better. Former opener Aakash Chopra believes Yashasvi Jaiswal has a slight edge over Shubman Gill in the race for a spot in India's squad for the 2025 Asia Cup. He said picking Gill, the Test captain and ODI vice-captain, in the team was a 'tempting' choice, but it won't 'look very nice' if he's not picked in the 11 afterwards. India's Asia Cup campaign will begin against the UAE on September 10. The selectors' meeting is reportedly scheduled for Tuesday, August 19, and will be followed by a press conference led by chief selector Ajit Agarkar. Neither Gill nor Jaiswal has played a T20 since 2024, and in the meantime, Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma have made their marks at the top of the order. However, the backup opener spot is still up for grabs. 'It is important that you keep an opener with you because, while counting the previous 15-member squad, there was no third opener in the Indian team. We never thought that if Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson would lose their form, then who would open. But then, you have to keep a third opener for the World Cup," Chopra said in a video on his YouTube channel. 'As per T20 figures, Yashasvi is little ahead of Shubman. The way he plays T20 and the DNA of the team, he also marries that style. Sometimes it also happens that if you pick Shubman as the third opener, who is your Test captain, the ODI vice-captain, now you have him on the bench in T20Is, that will not look very nice. So the selectors will be thinking that if we are going to select Shubman, then we will have to give him a place in the eleven. Though picking Shubman is tempting, but I feel Yashasvi should be slightly ahead in this race," he added. Gill was the second-highest run-scorer in IPL 2025, but Jaiswal has been more consistent over the past few seasons. What could work in Gill's favor is India's penchant for grooming all-format captains, considering he's already leading in Tests and is expected to take over from Rohit Sharma eventually in ODIs too. view comments First Published: News cricket Yashasvi Jaiswal Vs Shubman Gill: Ex-IND Player Makes His Pick For 2025 Asia Cup Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Former India captain Sourav Ganguly expressed sadness over the passing of legendary Australian cricketer Bob Simpson, describing him as 'a gentleman to the core." Ganguly mentioned that his memories of being with Simpson during the 1999 World Cup and his stint with Lancashire will remain in his heart. On Saturday, Cricket Australia (CA) announced that Simpson had died in Sydney at the age of 89. Simpson played 62 Tests for Australia from 1957 to 1978, scoring 4869 runs at an average of 46.81, including 10 centuries and 27 half-centuries, with a highest score of 311. David Coote's EPL Return 'Very Difficult' After Ban For Comments On Jurgen Klopp, Says Howard Webb

The controversial referee had gone on an abusive rant against the former Liverpool boss and was suspended in November 2024 for an aggravated breach of the FA guidelines. Former referee Howard Webb has given a strong verdict against David Coote, claiming the disgraced referee would find it extremely difficult to come back to the list of English Premier League officials. Webb even raised doubts about Coote ever officiating at the elite level again after he was handed a suspension for making derogatory comments about former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp. In a video filmed during lockdown and leaked online in November 2024, Coote had gone on an abusive rant against Klopp and was criticised widely, before being suspended for an 'aggravated breach" of Football Association guidelines. Even though the referee expressed 'deep remorse" and accepted that his remarks on the German tactician were 'crass and inappropriate", he was barred from officiating in matches. In a double whammy, Coote was then also sacked from the Premier League referees' body, the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL), when another controversial video caught the body's attention, where he appears to be sniffing white powder during Euro 2024. UEFA banned Coote from referee duties at European competitions in February for a suspension period lasting until June 30, 2026. 'I think it'd be really difficult for David to come back, I'm afraid to say," said Webb, as quoted by The Guardian. 'He is somebody that we stay in contact with, somebody who was part of our refereeing family for a long time and served the game as well for a long period of time and I've known him personally for many years. So it's sad what happened with David, but I would think it would be a challenging thing for him to come back." 'It became apparent that David had made some bad choices away from the football field. He was an employee of ours. So obviously we had to care for him and we had to try to understand why he made some of those choices and where they connected to the job that he had. 'We spoke to all of our officials as well other officials and said: 'How are you feeling about all of this?' And there was some feedback that came back from them about the support that they think they need. And then it was a good time for us to reflect on the services that we do provide within our own staff expertise." view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
