Bangladesh batter Soumya Sarkar ruled out from T20 against Pakistan, Mehidy Hasan becomes replacement
New Delhi: Bangladesh batter Soumya Sarkar has been ruled out of the June T20 series against Pakistan due to a back injury. Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who is playing for Lahore Qalandars in the PSL 2025 playoffs, has been as been named as his replacement, according to ESPNcricinfo on Thursday. Pakistan will host Bangladesh for a three-match T20 series starting from May 28, the Bangladesh team is scheduled to arrive in Lahore on May 25, three days before the opener. The tourists' training sessions are planned for May 26 and 27 to ensure optimal preparation for the series. Soumya missed the three T20Is against UAE in Sharjah, a series Bangladesh lost 2-1, and the team physio, Bayjedul Islam Khan said he would need a couple of weeks to recover. "Following medical evaluation, it has been determined that the injury requires an extended rehabilitation period of approximately 10 to 12 days," Bayjedul said. "This effectively means that he will not be available for next week's three-match series in Pakistan," Bayjedul Islam Khan said. Mehidy was left out of the T20I team that Bangladesh's selectors had chosen for the UAE and Pakistan tour. However, Mehidy has had a successful 2024-25 campaign. In addition to taking three five-wicket hauls and scoring a century in the Test Series against Zimbabwe, he was also named the Player of the Tournament in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2025 for his 355 runs and 13 wickets. Mehidy is with his countrymen Shakib Al Hasan and Rishad Hossain in the Qalandars squad, and he will join the Bangladesh team in Lahore after his PSL commitments. Bangladesh squad: Litton Das (capt), Tanzid Hasan, Parvez Hossain, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Towhid Hridoy, Shamim Hossain, Jaker Ali, Rishad Hossain, Mahedi Hasan (vice-capt), Tanvir Islam, Mustafizur Rahman, Hasan Mahmud, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, Nahid Rana, and Shoriful Islam.

BD cricket team to tour Pakistan from 21st
LAHORE: The Bangladesh cricket team has been given the go ahead by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) tour Pakistan. Following heightened tensions between Pakistan and India, the BCB had sought permission from its government before confirming the tour, which has allowed, the sources said, adding: 'The Pakistan-Bangladesh series will go ahead as per the original schedule. The series is set to begin on May 27 and will comprise five T20 matches. All matches are scheduled to take place in Faisalabad and Lahore.' There are no security concerns in Pakistan and the series will take place across both scheduled venues, the sources added. Moreover, Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has joined Lahore Qalandars for the remaining matches of the Pakistan Super League (PSL 10) starting today. Shakib had replaced New Zealand's Daryl Mitchell in the squad, who is unavailable for the rest of the tournament. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had announced the schedule for the remaining fixtures of PSL X. According to the schedule, league matches will take place in Rawalpindi, while the playoff round will be staged in Lahore. The final of PSL X is scheduled to be played at the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore, on May 25. The Pakistan-Bangladesh series is part of the Future Tour Programme (FTP). The series was originally consisted of three ODIs and three T20Is. However, with the ICC Men's T20 World Cup scheduled for next year, both the boards have mutually agreed to replace the ODIs with two additional T20Is. The five-match T20I series will be played in Faisalabad and Lahore from May 25 to June 3. Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad, which successfully hosted the inaugural Champions One-Day Cup in September last year and National T20 Cup last month, will stage the first and second T20Is of the series, scheduled on May 25 and 27, respectively. Iqbal Stadium, which has previously hosted 24 Tests and 16 ODIs between 1978 and 2008, will welcome back international cricket after a 17-year hiatus. The historic venue's last international fixture was an ODI between Bangladesh and Pakistan in April 2008. Lahore's Gaddafi Stadium will host the remaining three T20Is, scheduled on May 30, June 1 and 3. All five matches will begin at 8pm. Bangladesh team will arrive on 21st May and will undergo training sessions at the Iqbal Stadium from May 22 to 24. Copyright Business Recorder, 2025

Shakib cleared to bowl again
Bangladesh's veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has finally been cleared of a suspect bowling action after months of scrutiny and uncertainty. The 37-year-old had previously failed two reassessments, but his latest test results confirm that he has now successfully rectified his action. This development comes as a major relief for Shakib, who was left out of Bangladesh's Champions Trophy squad because selectors were unwilling to include him solely as a specialist batter. His suspension from bowling had ruled him out of the ICC event, which he had considered a potential farewell tournament in international cricket. The phrase "third time lucky" proved true for Shakib, who cleared his latest bowling action test in England. Speaking to a local sports platform, the former captain confirmed the news with evident joy. "The news is right (about passing the bowling test), and I am cleared to bowl again," Shakib said. Shakib's bowling action first came under scrutiny during a County Championship match for Surrey against Somerset in September 2024. Subsequently, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) suspended him after an independent evaluation deemed his action illegal. Following the suspension, Shakib underwent two separate reassessmentsfirst in England and then in Indiafailing both attempts before finally receiving clearance in his latest test. It is important to note that Shakib's troubles began in September 2024, when he played for Surrey in the County Championship against Somerset. After the match, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) tested his action and found that his elbow extension was exceeding the allowed 15-degree limit. As a result, he was banned from bowling in England. The 37-year-old all rounder then failed a second test in January, which meant he couldn't bowl in any domestic or international matches. Meanwhile, Shakib hasn't played since the Abu Dhabi T10 in November 2024. With no contracts in IPL or PSL, his next chance to return to action could be Bangladesh's upcoming ODI series against Sri Lanka.

Shakib Al Hasan has bowling action cleared by ECB
LONDON, March 20 (Reuters) - Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has been cleared to resume bowling in English county cricket after a re-assessment of his bowling action. The England and Wales Cricket Board said the 37-year-old has passed tests of his action at Loughborough University earlier this month. "The re-assessment found that Shakib had remedied his action to within the prescribed 15-degree threshold as defined in the ECB Bowling Review Regulations," a statement said. Shakib's action had been reported by the standing umpire while he was playing for Surrey against Somerset in September. He then failed an independent assessment at Loughborough University which prompted his bowling suspension from Dec. 10. The suspension meant he was ruled out of the Champions Trophy earlier this year as Bangladesh were reluctant to include him as a specialist batsman. Shakib Al Hasan has been cleared to bowl again in all England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) competitions and The Hundred having previously served a suspension because of his Bangladesh all-rounder played one game for Surrey in the County Championship in September 2024, and was reported by the umpires. In December he received a ban after an independent assessment found that his action exceeded the 15-degree threshold allowed by ECB action was then reassessed a month later in India, which resulted in a ban from bowling in international cricket and he was not included in Bangladesh's squad for the recent Champions Trophy. But the ECB confirmed that another inspection of his action at Loughborough University earlier this month demonstrated he had remedied his action sufficiently to have the suspension lifted. Former Tigers captain Shakib has played 71 Tests, 247 one-day internationals and 129 T20s for has not yet signed with a county or a Hundred team for 2025.
