Next Denza? Less hardcore Fangchengbao Ti7 enters production
BYD-owned Fangchengbao has officially started production of its fourth domestic market model called the Ti7.
Fitting in
Set to be positioned between the Bao 5 and Bao 8, the Ti7 follows the naming example of the brand's smallest model, the Tai 3, not to adopt the repeated Bao moniker, which translates as Leopard in Mandarin.

The brand's name, therefore, meaning Formula Leopard and its pair of products as Formula Leopard Leopard 5 and Formula Leopard Leopard 8, the Ti7 joins the Tai 3 as part of the Tia/Ti range seemingly aimed at less strenuous off-road usage.
The fundamentals
This being enforced by its use of a unibody platform rather than the body-on-frame Dual Mode Offroad that underpins the Bao 5, Bao 8 and BYD Shark bakkie, the Ti7 has reported measurements of 4 999 mm in overall length, a wheelbase of 2 920 mm, height of 1 865 mm and width of 1 995 mm.

Providing seating for five, again similar to the Tai 3, the Ti7 continues with the usage of a plug-in hybrid powertrain, albeit under the designation DMS.
As with the Bao 5 and Shark, this consists of a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine working in conjunction with a 26.6-kWh battery pack powering a single electric motor, and a bigger 35.6-kWh module motivating two electric units.

While no combined power and torque figures have so far been revealed, Fangchengbao does report an all-electric range of between 100 to 130 km based on China's CLTC measurements.
Next Denza, and a first?
Reported to have a price tag of between 250 000 to 300 000 yuan, which amounts to R615 628-R738 754 when directly converted, and without taxes, the Ti7's significance lies in it being, potentially, rebadged under Denza name for export markets.
Similar to the Bao 5 and Bao 8 that go under the nomenclatures Denza B5 and B8, the Ti7 could be renamed T7 in the event of it being approved for markets outside the People's Republic as the third Denza badged Fangchengbao product.
For the moment, this is purely speculative and not confirmed by either Fangchengbao or Denza.
As a reminder, the latter, a once joint venture between BYD and Mercedes-Benz, will make its South African market debut in 2026 with the B5, and, if recent reports are to be believed, with the B8 a short while later.

After compound sold, Gupta brothers have no significant assets in SA
JOHANNESBURG - The business rescue practitioners tasked with disposing of the Gupta brothers' properties said there were no more significant assets belonging to the Gupta brothers in South Africa. On Tuesday, the auctioneers of the infamous Gupta compound announced the sale of the compound to a single buyer. The three properties were sold for R34.5 million. The business rescue practitioners for the Gupta-owned properties announced that they accepted and confirmed an offer for all three Saxonwold houses that were owned by the controversial brothers. The offer was made by a single buyer who now owns a 17-bedroom en-suite property, an 8-bedroom property and a more modest 3-bedroom house. The auctioneers, Park Village Auctions, said the business rescue practitioners would receive their funds in accordance with the terms of the business rescue plan and the Gupta brothers' creditors couls also expect to receive payment. The practitioners said that since the Guptas fled from South Africa in 2016, the assets from their companies, including the Optimum coal mine and The New Age Media, had been disposed of.

Global EV sales up 21% in July as growth rate cools
Global electric vehicle (EV) sales grew 21% year-on-year in July, the slowest rate since January and down from 25% in June, as momentum in plug-in hybrid sales in China slackened, market research firm Rho Motion said on Wednesday. Why it's important China is the world's biggest car market and accounts for more than half of global EV sales, which in Rho Motion's data include battery-electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids. Its overall car sales growth slowed in July, with BYD, the world's largest EV maker, recording its third monthly drop in registrations. The relatively muted slowdown in overall EV sales, however, shows other markets are taking up some of the slack, with European sales benefiting from incentives aimed at speeding up decarbonisation. By the numbers Global sales of battery-electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids rose to 1.6-million units in July, Rho Motion data showed. China's EV sales growth, which averaged 36% a month in the first half, eased to 12% in July as the previously booming market was dampened by a pause in some 2025 government subsidy schemes for EV and plug-in hybrid purchases, Rho Motion data manager Charles Lester said. Chinese sales reached about one-million vehicles. European sales surged 48% to about 390,000 units, while North American sales climbed 10% to more than 170,000. Sales in the rest of the world jumped 55% to more than 140,000 vehicles. Key quote 'Despite regional variations, the overall trajectory for EV adoption in 2025 remains strongly upward,' Lester said.
