Kota Kinabalu: Kadazan Dusun Cultural Association (KDCA) President Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan called for stronger unity among Malaysians while urging caution over the misuse of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Pairin expressed concern over the rapid advancement of technology, particularly AI, warning that the public must remain vigilant against the uncritical acceptance of AI-generated content and misinformation. 'AI can mislead us from what is true and right,' he said. 'We must be cautious so that we don't go astray.' He referenced a viral AI-generated video that falsely depicted Russia's Vladimir Putin and North Korea's Kim Jong-un dancing together, as an example of how easily false narratives can be created and spread. He said while technology offers opportunities, it must not overshadow or distort reality, especially when it comes to preserving the culture and values of the community. He said the Kaamatan Festival is more than a cultural celebration — a vital platform to promote national unity, friendship, and collective progress. On the final day of the month-long Kaamatan Festival 2025, Pairin said, 'Celebrations like this are a powerful platform to inspire our hopes that we, as Malaysians in Sabah, can truly unite and work together.' He praised the spirit of cooperation shown by the people of Sabah and acknowledged the presence of delegates from Kalimantan and Sarawak, highlighting the cross-border ties that enrich the festival. He also thanked local leaders and ministers who played key roles in ensuring the festival's success. Reflecting on the overall success of this year's event, Pairin expressed pride in the participation of Sabah's youth and students, who showcased confidence in performing and preserving their heritage. 'This year, we've seen real improvement in performances, audience engagement and the involvement of schools in cultural education,' he noted. 'This is the result of consistent collaboration and passion.' Pairin encouraged Malaysians to carry forward the festival's spirit of unity and mutual respect. 'The strength of our friendship and the encouragement to move forward together —this is what will ensure our shared future,' he concluded. The Kaamatan Festival, celebrated annually in Sabah throughout May, marks the end of the rice harvest and showcases the rich cultural traditions of the Kadazandusun community. It has become a unifying event not just for Sabahans, but for Malaysians and international visitors alike. The closing was officiated by Head of State, Tun Musa Aman, who was joined by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor in performing the mongomot (rice harvesting) ritual. MACC to use creative platforms to educate public on corruption prevention
KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) aims to utilise creative platforms such as documentaries, films, and theatre to broaden its approach in educating the public on corruption prevention. MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki, in a statement, said that corruption prevention education through these creative channels would focus on the MACC's role in enforcement, procurement, and the leakage of public funds. According to him, efforts to educate the public on procurement and misappropriation of public funds must be conducted continuously and disseminated frequently and repeatedly so that the public becomes aware of the MACC's role. According to the statement, Azam said this when chairing the second MACC Directors' Meeting for 2025 in Genting Highlands today. Azam also stressed the need for the MACC's Community Education Division (PenMas) to intensify impactful education programmes and reach out to the people. In addition, he expressed his gratitude for the trust and support shown by MACC personnel in particular, and the government in general, for entrusting him once again to lead the commission. He also called on all MACC staff to continue instilling values of patriotism and loyalty in line with the General Circular No. 1 of 2025 on the Cultivation of Patriotism and Loyalty among Civil Servants, launched by Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar on March 21. Also present at the meeting were MACC Deputy Chief Commissioner (Operations) Datuk Seri Ahmad Khusairi Yahaya, Deputy Chief Commissioner (Prevention) Datuk Azmi Kamaruzaman, Deputy Chief Commissioner (Management and Professionalism) Datuk Indera Junipah Wandi, as well as senior directors and MACC directors from across the country.

Anwar shares royal compliment on Malaysia's medical expertise
PETALING JAYA: Sultan of Brunei Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah praised the quality and expertise of doctors at the National Heart Institute (IJN) after receiving treatment there. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim conveyed this during the Higher Education Ministry's Ilmuan Malaysia Madani forum titled "Transport for the People: Balancing Affordability, Quality and Sustainability of Public Transport." "His Majesty told me that, as someone with exposure to and experience with some of the world's best medical centres, he was very satisfied with the quality of service, excellence, and expertise of our doctors at IJN," he said. Anwar added that while the government welcomes criticism, Malaysians should also recognise national achievements, especially in healthcare. "So while we allow criticism, which is not a problem, we must also recognise the strengths we have, and there must be the drive to push ourselves to do better," he said. The Sultan of Brunei was in Kuala Lumpur for the 46th Asean Summit with other regional leaders. On May 27, he was reportedly feeling fatigued and was advised by health experts to rest at IJN. Anwar also spoke about his conversation with President of Guinea-Bissau General Umaro Sissoco Embaló, during which he asked why Malaysia was chosen despite limited bilateral trade. "His answer was that he follows developments here and sees Malaysia as a country on the rise, with significant potential. That's why he chose to come," he said. Embaló arrived today for a three-day visit—his first since taking office as president in February 2020. Malaysia and Guinea-Bissau established diplomatic relations in November 1974. In 2024, Malaysia's total trade with Guinea-Bissau reached RM4.1 million, with Malaysian exports amounting to RM4.04 million and imports standing at RM0.06 million.
