Premier League forms five-year AI partnership with Microsoft
Audiences and fans will be able to learn about Premier League clubs, players, matches through an AI companion powered by Microsoft's Copilot which can pull information from over 30 seasons of stats, 300,000 articles and 9,000 videos, they said.
AI has strongly resonated with sports leagues and sports entertainment companies as they look to streamline the vast troves of data to attract larger audiences and drive engagement.
Spain's LaLiga soccer league, which features clubs such as Real Madrid and FC Barcelona, also uses AI in match analysis and media production while clubs roll out AI-driven experiences to engage more fans.
The Premier League, England's top soccer league, is also migrating its core digital infrastructure to Microsoft Azure to allow for easier AI integration and create a unified platform for the league. — REUTERS

Liverpool defender Quansah signs for Bayer Leverkusen
MUNICH (Germany): Centre-half Jarell Quansah has joined Bayer Leverkusen from Premier League champions Liverpool for a reported club record fee, the Bundesliga side announced today. According to British and German press, the transfer fee for the 22-year-old could go up to €40 million (RM200 million), including €10 million in add-ons. German specialist media Kicker and The Athletic also reported the inclusion of a €60 million buy-back clause in the contract, which Liverpool could activate from summer 2027 to re-sign Quansah. "We are very happy to be able to sign Jarell Quansah, one of the most promising English central defenders," said Leverkusen managing director of sport Simon Rolfes. "He made a very impressive contribution to a Liverpool defence full of world-class players. Jarell will give our defence extra dynamism, tempo and strength." Quansah becomes the most expensive signing in Leverkusen's history, following on from the previous record arrival of midfielder Kerem Demirbay for €32 million in 2019. The 2025 European under-21 champion with England joined Liverpool's academy as a five-year-old, and rose through the ranks before making his first-team debut in 2023. He went on to appear 58 times for the Merseysiders, winning the League Cup in 2022 and 2024, as well as the Premier League title last season. After playing second fiddle to first-choice defensive duo Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate for much of the 2024/25 campaign, Quansah arrives at Leverkusen to replace departed former captain Jonathan Tah at the heart of the Bundesliga club's defence. "The ambitious targets here were clearly explained to me during the negotiations. It's a great role and challenge for me to be part of the current Leverkusen rebuild," said Quansah. After creating league history by winning the Bundesliga undefeated in 2024, Leverkusen endured a difficult title defence last term, finishing 13 points adrift of winners Bayern Munich.

BAYER LEVERKUSEN have signed England Under-21 international Jarell Quansah from Premier League club Liverpool on a five-year contract, the Bundesliga club said on Wednesday. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed, but British media reported that Leverkusen would pay up to £35 million (US$47.92 million), including five million pounds in potential add-ons. The 22-year-old defender, a product of Liverpool's academy, made his senior debut in the 2023-24 season and went on to make 58 appearances in all competitions for the Merseyside outfit. Quansah was part of the England squad which won the Under-21 European Championship this year under Lee Carsley. "We are delighted to have signed Jarell Quansah, one of England's most promising centre-backs. He's quick, agile and a good footballer," Leverkusen's Sporting Director Simon Rolfes said in a statement. Leverkusen, who finished second to Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga, appointed former Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag as their head coach in May, replacing Xabi Alonso who left to join Real Madrid. The 23-year-old England international, who has been capped once, had been linked to top clubs including Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur. His previous deal was set to expire in 2027. "I'm over the moon. It's been something we've been talking about since the end of the season and to get it signed now is something I'm really excited about," Branthwaite told evertontv. "The trust the club's put in me and how many games I've played over the past two seasons has made it quite an easy decision for me to stay and to keep progressing as a player. "I know the club. I feel loved by the players – we've got a good group here – and the fans. Over the past few years, I've seen the impact the fans have on us as a team and how much it means to them." Everton are preparing for a new era with the men's team moving from Goodison Park, the club's home since 1892, to a new 52,888-capacity stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock.
