Redevelopment of Tirupati Rly Station on fast track
After years of delays, the much-anticipated Rs 300 crore redevelopment project was initiated in 2022, with an initial completion deadline set for February 2025. However, due to technical challenges, the project timeline had to be extended. The station is now expected to be completed by December 2025. The redevelopment works are meant to provide a seamless experience for the passengers whose numbers are expected to cross one lakh mark in the next 2-3 decades. To meet this growing demand, the Indian Railways is transforming Tirupati into one of the most modern railway stations in the country. The old entrance on the north side had become too cramped for the ever-growing crowd of devotees. To ease the pressure, the railways have focused on developing the southern side also with a new building by providing all advanced amenities.
Station Director K Satyanarayana told The Hans India that around 95 per cent of the work on the southern side is already done. Once it's completed, the focus will shift to speeding up construction on the northern side. The southern side features a large G+3 building, which will later be expanded by another 10 floors under a public-private partnership. These extra floors will be leased out for commercial spaces.
The new station is being built with passenger comfort in mind. The southern basement alone offers parking for 200 cars and 300 two-wheelers. The ground floor will have ticket counters, arrival and departure concourses, and waiting lounges. The second floor will host waiting halls, a women's waiting area, a food court, toilets, and a cloakroom. The third floor will house facilities like a running room for staff, resting rooms for TTEs and railway offices. To make moving around easier, altogether 20 lifts and 22 escalators are being installed. All platforms will connect to two spacious air concourses, each 35 meters wide, making it easier for passengers to reach any platform once their train is announced.
Security has also been taken into account. The Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) offices will be located on the ground floor, close to the platforms for better accessibility.
On the northern side, the new station building will cover 10,800 sq m and the G+3 facility will include waiting halls, a VIP lounge, cloakroom, shops, kiosks, reservation office, retiring rooms, and railway offices.
To ease traffic, a new road is being built on the southern side to connect DR Mahal Road with Rayala Cheruvu Road. This 80-foot-wide road will also connect the southern side building directly, once the existing running room is demolished and relocated.
The Station Director said that with the final touches progressing fast, Tirupati Railway Station is well on its way to becoming a landmark facility that not only serves pilgrims better but also offers a modern, hassle-free experience for all passengers.

Online frauds cheat investors with fake luxury goods scheme, 8 arrested
Noida: Eight members of an online fraud racket that lured people with promises of becoming millionaires were arrested on Sunday. The accused operated via Google Meet, convincing targets to invest Rs 1.5 lakh by purchasing fake luxury goods like gold, diamonds, and watches. Payments were collected during the meetings, often in dollars or bitcoins. When investors failed to make profits, they were pressured to buy more products and even offered fake loans to continue investing. Those who did found them to be of substandard quality. "The accused now face charges under sections 318(4) (cheating), 351(2) (criminal intimidation), and 61(2) (criminal conspiracy) of the BNS at the Ecotech-1 Police Station," Verma said.

Monks from 15 nations to join Vaishali stupa launch
Patna: The Buddha Samyak Darshan Museum-cum-Memorial Stupa, constructed at the historic site of Vaishali, has been completed and is set to be inaugurated by CM Nitish Kumar on Tuesday. Buddhist monks from 15 countries, including China, Japan, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Nepal, Tibet, Myanmar, Malaysia, Bhutan, Vietnam, Cambodia, Mongolia, Laos, Bangladesh and Indonesia, are expected to gather in Vaishali for the occasion. "The historic monument will become a centre of devotion and attraction for Buddhist followers worldwide," a state govt official said on Monday. Announcing the inauguration, Nitish posted on his official X handle, "It is a pleasure to inform that Buddha Samyak Darshan Museum-cum-Memorial Stupa, Vaishali is going to be inaugurated on July 29. Buddhist monks and followers from 15 countries across the world are coming to Bihar for the inaugural ceremony. It is a matter of pride for all the people of Bihar." The relic was unearthed during excavations conducted between 1958 and 1962. Govt set to appoint consultant for project to ease T1-T3 travel
New Delhi: Commuting woes between Delhi's Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport's terminals 3/2 and T1 are finally on the authorities' radar. Delhi govt plans to appoint a consultant to study the feasibility and prepare a detailed project report for constructing a Y-shaped flyover and widening the tunnel road under the runway, according to sources. Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) officials recently met PWD minister Parvesh Verma, who subsequently sent a team to the site for inspection and set the ball rolling to study and implement the proposal that had been gathering dust for years. "Minister Verma assured us of action in terms of appointing a consultant for the twin project," said a source. With T1 handling four crore passengers annually (CPA), the volume of transit traffic has risen exponentially. Moreover, DIAL's proposed air train has also been delayed, with no sign of work on it beginning anytime soon. To handle the volume of transit traffic between T3/2 and T1 till an air train is ready, DIAL had proposed a Y-shaped flyover connecting the Northern Access Road to the road leading to Dwarka on one side and Indira Gandhi Road that leads to Dhaula Kuan and Vasant Vihar on the other. While the proposed flyover would make the commute between T1 and T3 signal-free at the currently choked NSG junction on T1 and Indira Gandhi roads, coping with the increased vehicular movement will require widening the Northern Access Road that links the two terminals. This includes the existing six-lane tunnel road (three lanes for each direction) that is proposed to be doubled by having an additional six-lane underpass section. It is learnt the entire project will cost Rs 300-350 crore. As the road belongs to PWD, DIAL has approached both the Delhi and central govts. "The project is proposed to be funded 20% by the state and 80% by Centre through its urban development fund. The request has been made, and both are seized of the issue," said a source.
