Anganwadi worker's family ‘excommunicated' in Kadur over child marriage complaint
'Childline officers and the anganwadi supervisor had visited the village two years ago. Villagers suspected that I was behind the POCSO complaint. Since then, we were banned from talking to anyone, denied access to community land, and even forbidden to visit the temple,' she said.
Tejaswini also alleged that villagers warned the Anganwadi centre would be locked if she did not resign. 'Each family in the village was allotted one acre of land. Our plot of land was taken back from us,' she added.
Tejaswini's mother-in-law, Somamma, said that the family was barred from entering the village temple, interacting with neighbours, or hiring workers to cultivate their land. She alleged that villagers threatened to fine anyone who spoke to their family.
Birur police inspector Guruprasad told TNIE that the family was also involved in a dispute with the village over four acres of Gomala land. 'Villagers claim the land is meant for grazing cattle. The entire village is united on the issue.
There are also three IPC Section 307 cases filed against Abhishek, Tejaswini's husband,' he said. He added that both he and the Tarikere DySP had visited the village and held peace talks to resolve tensions. Kadur taluk social welfare officer K Nataraj said the conflict appears to have escalated further over a strike planned by villagers on Wednesday.

HC sets aside 6-month jail term after case lingers on for 48 yrs
Jaipur: In a case that lingered in courts for nearly 48 years, Rajasthan High Court Thursday set aside the six-month jail sentence of O P Jain, an 84-year-old retired Wireless Licensing Inspector, citing his advanced age and the extraordinary delay in the legal process. Jain was convicted in 1989 by a CBI court in Jaipur for corruption and criminal conspiracy related to actions in 1977. He was initially sentenced to six months' simple imprisonment and a fine of Rs 500 under Section 120-B IPC and Section 5(2) read with Section 5(1)(d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947. Hearing his appeal, Justice Mahendar Kumar Goyal observed that Jain had already borne the trauma of prolonged litigation for nearly five decades. Considering his age and relying on precedent where courts had shown leniency in similar long-pending matters, the court chose to maintain the conviction but set aside the custodial sentence. The court, instead, enhanced the fine from Rs 500 to Rs 5,000 under each section. In the event of default in payment, Jain would have to undergo simple imprisonment of two months per offence. He has been given two months to deposit the fine with the trial court. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Libas Purple Days Sale Libas Undo The FIR was initially registered in 1977 by the Delhi Special Police Establishment, Jaipur Branch, following complaints that Jain had misused his official position to accept bribes from radio operators and falsify records. The trial concluded in 1989 with his conviction. Noting that Jain was 38 years old when the case began and has remained under the shadow of litigation since, the court held that continuing with a jail sentence after such an extended duration would serve no meaningful purpose. The special public prosecutor did not oppose the plea. The court also directed Jain to furnish a personal bond of Rs 25,000 and a surety of equal amount within four weeks, in compliance with Section 437-A CrPC, which will remain effective for six months.

Teacher, clerk arrested for sexual harassment of school students in Tiruvannamalai
A 59-year-old Tamil teacher and a clerk of the Government Adi Dravidar Welfare High School in Tiruvannamalai were arrested by police personnel of the All Women Police Station (AWPS) on charges of alleged sexual harassment of seven students over the past two years. The arrested persons were identified as V. Sathyaseelan, a native of Chengam, and K. Balamurugan, a native of Cuddalore district. Initial inquiry revealed that the school came under the scanner of the District Child Protection Office (DCPO) in Tiruvannamalai after it got a complaint regarding sexual harassment. DCPO officials said that a team of DCPO officials, led by K. Selvi, visited the school campus on July 24 to create awareness among students and teachers on the usage of the child helpline, child rights and protections, and the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. DCPO officials said that during the programme, which was held in two separate sessions for boys and girls, the affected students complained about sexual harassment by the teacher and clerk. They also gave written complaints on sexual harassment to the DCPO team. The DCPO officials said that such awareness sessions are held regularly in educational institutions like schools, colleges, and diploma institutes as part of childcare. On an average, 12-13 child abuse cases are registered with DCPO in the district every month. The DCPO team apprised Tiruvannamalai Collector K. Tharpagaraj of the sexual harassment complaints given by students to the visiting team. Based on a complaint by DCPO, All Women Police Station (AWPS) in Polur arrested the duo, who were later lodged at Central Prison in Vellore. A probe is under way.

2 plots of NRI sold with forged documents in Gurgaon, 7 handed 3 year jail term
Gurgaon: A city court has sentenced seven people to three years of imprisonment in a fraud case pertaining to two plots that belonged to an NRI. The plots in Palam Vihar Extension — each measuring 200 square yards and worth several crores — were fraudulently occupied and sold with the help of forged documents. The court said the accused were involved in a "deliberate and strategic fraud", manipulating legal documents to legitimise their possession of the plots. The accused forged special power of attorney and power of attorney documents for the property in Jharkhand and Madhya Pradesh to sell the land to third parties. Amarjeet Kaur, an NRI settled in the US, bought the plots in 1995. She was constantly monitoring the property directly or indirectly until 2005. Between 2005 and 2010, she could not visit them. In 2010, she discovered one Paramjeet Kaur, a "leader of the neighbourhood", had grabbed her property. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Is it better to shower in the morning or at night? Based on these forged documents, they encroached on the land, constructed a house and started residing in the house in 2006. A case was registered against eight persons at Palam Vihar police station under sections 419, 420, 467, 468, 471 and 120B of the IPC. The eighth accused, Rajpal, could not be traced and was declared a proclaimed offender in 2016. The sections are related to cheating, forging documents and criminal conspiracy. Public Prosecutor Poonam said during the investigation it was found that, on the basis of forged and fabricated special power of attorney and general power of attorney prepared in Jharkhand and MP, the plots were occupied by the accused. Counsel for the accused Pradeep Yadav argued the accused are innocent and are falsely implicated but failed to provide any evidence in support of the argument. Judicial Magistrate (Ist Class) Anjali Narwal, in her order on Wednesday, pointed out the mere fact of the alleged registration of the alleged SPA and GPA in Jharkhand and MP raises serious doubts about the execution and genuineness of these documents. There was no occasion for the complainant and accused to get power of attorney registered in Jharkhand when none of them are residents of Jharkhand and the property is in Gurgaon.
