Nitish Kumar cabinet clears 47 major proposals: new jobs, sewerage projects, VAT cut on aviation fuel

Nitish Kumar NEW DELHI: The Bihar cabinet, led by chief minister Nitish Kumar, on Tuesday approved 47 major proposals, paving the way for new government jobs, key urban infrastructure upgrades, and a significant reduction in VAT on aviation fuel to improve air connectivity. In a major administrative move, the cabinet sanctioned 4,858 new posts across various departments to boost governance and public service delivery. Key urban development decisions included the approval of a Rs 1,320 crore sewerage project in Sasaram, Aurangabad, and Siwan, and a Rs 328 crore drinking water scheme for Ara, Siwan, and Sasaram. A new Bridge Maintenance Policy was also cleared to ensure timely inspections and repairs of bridges across the state. In a bid to attract more air traffic, the cabinet slashed Value-Added Tax (VAT) on Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) from 29% to 4%, a move expected to lower costs for airlines and improve connectivity. The cabinet also greenlit the construction of a dry dock facility in Dujra, Patna, which will be the first in the region and used for aircraft repairs. Highlighting women's empowerment, the government announced that "Jeevika Didis", members of women's self-help groups, will now prepare clothes for children enrolled at Anganwadi centres. The cabinet also approved the expansion of urban limits in the Patna region, incorporating more villages into Phulwari Sharif, Danapur, and Khagaul municipalities. The announcements came shortly after Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Bihar, during which he inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for development projects worth Rs 48,520 crore. He was joined by CM Nitish Kumar and Deputy CM Samrat Chowdhary. Chief minister Kumar expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister and the Union government, stating, 'The development work that is being done by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the development of Bihar. He also announced assistance for Bihar in the budget. Whatever Bihar has received is a matter of pride. I salute the Centre for announcing the caste-based census. People from other parties were trying to create confusion. ' He further asserted that the NDA government in Bihar had prioritised infrastructure, healthcare, and road connectivity, with housing and settlement projects expected to be completed by June 2025. A key project launched during PM Modi's visit was the foundation stone laying for Stage-II of the Nabinagar Super Thermal Power Project in Aurangabad, valued at over Rs 29,930 crore, aimed at boosting power generation, industry, and employment. The PM also laid the foundation for crucial highway projects including the four-laning of Patna-Arrah-Sasaram (NH-119A), six-laning of Varanasi-Ranchi-Kolkata (NH-319B), the Ramnagar-Kacchi Dargah stretch (NH-119D), and a new Ganga bridge between Buxar and Bharauli. How Noida plans to catch the rain

1 2 3 Noida: District magistrate Manish Kumar Verma held a meeting with stakeholders on Monday and directed officials to ensure maximum rainwater conservation during the coming monsoon and to prioritise the Catch the Rain campaign under the Jal Shakti Mission. The DM directed officials to install rooftop rainwater harvesting systems on all govt and semi-govt buildings. He also emphasised the need to renovate and reuse traditional waterbodies, recharge borewells, develop watersheds, intensify tree plantation, rejuvenate small rivers, and other water conservation-related activities relevant to the district. Verma further asked the officials to ensure that all obstructions in the path of water flow to Amrit Sarovars are removed. Emphasising the need for effective rainwater harvesting in all parks and public places in urban areas, he added, "Office buildings, primary schools, Anganwadi centres, community health centres, panchayat buildings, and high-rise societies should check if the installed water harvest structures are working properly, and those not yet fitted should complete it. " Minor irrigation department officials were also instructed to coordinate with forest department officials to conduct extensive tree plantation campaigns along ponds and the Hindon river. The DM also stressed the importance of ensuring that information on tree plantations conducted by other departments is fed into the Jal Shakti Abhiyan portal. "Install water treatment plants to purify the dirty water from drains that flow into ponds, to prevent groundwater pollution," Verma told officials at the meeting. Additionally, officials from the education department, groundwater department, and Nehru Yuva Kendra were instructed to promote the 'Catch the Rain' campaign across the district through public awareness programmes, so that water conservation becomes a people's movement. He also said that the related progress should be fed into the Jal Shakti Abhiyan (JSA) portal. Officials were directed to ensure that the progress of completed tasks on the JSA portal is uploaded with personal attention.

Minister of Social Welfare and Women Empowerment P. Geetha Jeevan on Friday announced that 6,500 Anganwadi centres across the state have been upgraded into Smart Anganwadi centres. She made this announcement while participating in an event at Thoothukudi Government Medical College and Hospital (TKGMCH). At the event Ms. Geetha Jeevan launched the distribution of special protein rich meals to the patients undergoing dialysis treatment at the government hospitals. The meal includes milk, eggs, a cup of cooked chickpeas and biscuits. The event was presided over by TKGMCH Dean G. Preparations were underway to ensure this distribution across 54,000 centres in Tamil Nadu. She highlighted that about 6,500 Anganwadi centres in the state had been upgraded into Smart Anganwadi centres as of March 2025, with fresh mural paintings, LED TVs, RO water purifiers and other modern facilities. 'These upgrades have been carried out using funds from CSR initiatives , MLA and MP Constituency developments funds, special grants from the Central and State government and special allotments from the District Collector,' she noted. The minister further added that the information regarding underweight new born was collected by the Social Welfare Department and special care was being provided to these children. Even children who were not enrolled at Anganwadi centres were visited by Anganwadi workers to monitor their health and offer nutritional support. These efforts resulted in the reduction in infant mortality rates among children under the age five in the past year, she stated.
