NIBONG TEBAL: Aid in the form of cash relief for B40 students can go a long way in helping them get better quality education, says Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek.
She said it makes a difference when corporations come forward to support the education ecosystem.
'Through programmes where private corporations provide aid, it helps improve students' lives and the quality of their educational experience.
'It gives these children the space and motivation to continue to progress in life,' she told reporters after officiating a ceremony for scholarships for STPM students by Farm Fresh Berhad in Jawi yesterday.
Fadhlina said 500 Form 6 students from 10 states who fall under the B40 category will benefit from the contribution.
'They will receive RM100 every month from May to December.
'The company will contribute a total of RM2.8mil between 2025 and 2029 towards this cause.
'This will help these students cover their needs. It will have a direct impact on their education,' she added.
When asked how they identified students in need of the aid, Fadhlina said 70% to 80% of Form Six students fall under the B40 category.
'We have the data, and these students are picked at random,' she explained.
She also voiced hope that other companies would offer aid for B40 students.
'We are providing a dedicated platform for companies to contribute through structured corporate social responsibility programmes that have a direct impact on students,' she said.

Ex-pay TV staff faces 743 charges, faints in court on 30th

KUALA LUMPUR: A former employee of a pay TV company fainted in court after the 30th of 743 charges was read out to her for allegedly tampering with customer account data by converting regular accounts to corporate accounts. Nora Idayu Jaafar,48, collapsed in the dock shortly after entering her non-guilty plea to the 30th charge before Sessions Court judge Norma Ismail. The proceedings had to be halted while the court's security personnel and medical assistants from the Kuala Lumpur Hospital were deployed to the courtroom to provide assistance. After Nora Idayu regained consciousness, Norma released her on a RM10,000 bail in one surety for all 30 charges. The judge ordered her to return to the court on June 26 to face the remaining 713 charges. The court also ordered her to report to the police station once a month and surrender her passport. Nora Idayu, who was an associate of the commercial support unit, is accused of converting the regular clients account to corporate account without authorisation on Astro's Amdocs CRM database. She claimed trial to each of the 30 charges framed under Section 5(1) of the Computer Crimes Act punishable under Section 5(4) of the same act. Each charge carries a maximum fine of RM100,000 or a jail term not exceeding seven years or both upon conviction. She allegedly committed the offences at Astro's office in Menara Icon at Jalan Tun Razak. Deputy public prosecutor Rohaiza Abdul Rahman prosecuted while Nora Idayu had no legal representation.

Zahid announces joint committee to boost Malaysian franchises in UK

LONDON: A joint committee between Malaysian and United Kingdom (UK) franchise business associations will be established to strengthen Malaysia's franchise ecosystem in the UK, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. The Rural and Regional Development Minister said the initiative would serve as a support platform to help Malaysian franchise brands penetrate the UK market by next year. "There are plenty of opportunities for Malaysian companies to expand their franchise businesses in the UK, especially in halal-related sectors such as food, traditional medicine and cosmetics. "I will chair the Cabinet committee on franchises. I will obtain reports on the progress that can be made promptly, and I will review the achievements every six months when I chair this Cabinet committee twice a year," he told a press conference here Tuesday. Earlier, he attended the Malaysia-UK Franchise Business Dialogue, held in conjunction with his four-day working visit to the UK. Zahid added that Malaysia is also committed to supporting the franchise ecosystem through financing policies by the Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) and digital grants from the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), to achieve RM100 billion in sales by 2030. He said closer cooperation would be pursued to encourage UK franchises to explore the Asean market via Malaysia, while at the same time promoting the expansion of Malaysian brands into the UK market through the proposed committee. – BERNAMA

Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Agro-Industrial Park (Saip) has entered a new phase of development with two leading companies, Callabio Manufacturing Sdn Bhd and Sanomedical Asiapac Sdn Bhd, officially commencing operations at the high-tech facilities in Kimanis. Callabio Manufacturing Sdn Bhd will operate the Herbal Processing Facility (HPF) and Product Manufacturing Facility (PLF), producing nutraceutical, pharmaceutical, herbal-based food products, and isotonic drinks. Meanwhile, Sanomedical Asiapac Sdn Bhd will manage the Cosmetic Laboratory, focusing on the manufacturing of medical and healthcare products. The lease agreements between Saip Sdn Bhd and the two companies were signed by Saip Directors Datuk James Wong and Datuk Dr Ramzah Dambul. Callabio was represented by its Chief Executive Officer Dr Shahir Suhaimi, while Sanomedical was represented by its General Manager Helgah Veronica Smith Lagadan. Both companies committed deposits of RM125,000 and RM100,000 respectively to begin operations at Saip. Present at the signing ceremony was the Minister of Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship who is also the Chairman of Saip Sdn Bhd Datuk Phoong Jin Zhe. He said this development aligns with the State Government's goal to position Saip as an incubation hub for local agro-industry and biotechnology entrepreneurs. 'Saip is more than just an industrial park, it is a platform for talent development, innovation, and high-value manufacturing that will propel Sabah forward in the agro-biotech sector,' Phoong said. During the event, CAIQ Biosecurity Sdn Bhd also presented a proposal for a joint venture with Saip to establish the industrial park as a key centre for testing, inspection and registration of food, supplements, agricultural, and aquaculture products from Sabah for export to China. Situated on a 215-acre site in Kimanis, Papar, Saip is recognised as a crucial catalyst for advancing Sabah's agricultural sector and providing opportunities for farmers, entrepreneurs and industries to grow. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
