IT: Welcome to Derry's new teaser
You want more Pennywise the Clown? You got it. Executive producers Andy and Barbara Muschietti closed out Saturday with a raucous panel where they showed a sneak peek of the upcoming IT prequel series with an exclusive clip from the premiere episode. That's not all. They released a creepy new teaser trailer for the nine-episode series. October can't come quick enough.
Starfleet Academy joins Star Trek family
An original Paramount Plus series, Star Trek: Starfleet Academy is set to arrive in 2026, just in time to celebrate the franchise's 60th anniversary. Saturday's panel presentation included a teaser trailer of the new show, which focuses on a group of young student cadets looking to earn their place as Starfleet officers. Check out the clip and Paul Giamatti's villainous turn as Nus Braka.
Talent on hand at SDCC included Holly Hunter, who plays Nahla Ake, the captain of the USS Athena and the school chancellor. Panelists also included co-showrunners Alex Kurtzman and Noga Landau, along with Starfleet cadets Sandro Rosta (who plays Caleb Mir), Karim Diané (who stars as the Klingon Jay-Den Kraag), Kerrice Brooks (playing Sam), George Hawkins (who stars as Darem Reymi) and Bella Shepard, who plays Genesis Lythe, the daughter of an admiral.
Coyote vs. Acme gets release date
After being rescued from the pile of scrapped ashes left by Warner Bros. Discovery, the Coyote vs. Acme movie will hit theaters next year thanks to Ketchup Entertainment. Footage screened during a Comic-Con panel showed John Cena playing Acme's attorney in a case that pits Wile E. Coyote against the corporation for faulty goods. Cast members Will Forte, Eric Bauza and Martha Kelly were on deck, along with director Dave Green. The film is set to debut on Aug. 28, 2026.

Avatar: Seven Havens first look
It's a 20-year anniversary celebration for Avatar: The Last Airbender, the award-winning animated series that aired on Nickelodeon. Thursday's Comic-Con panel brought together original creators Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino and voice cast Zach Tyler Eisen, Jennie Kwan, Michaela Jill Murphy, Jack DeSena (Sokka), Dante Basco (Zuko) and Dee Bradley Baker for a look at the past and present, including Avatar: Seven Havens.
The new animated sequel series, which was originally announced in February, has 26 episodes and will be split into two installments. Fans will meet Avatar Pavi when the series debuts, but for now, here's a glimpse at the bender picking up the mantle.

Five Nights at Freddy's 2
The sequel from Blumhouse sees an unsuspecting group pull up to the creepy pizzeria, not knowing about the killer lifelike animatronics with nothing but evil in store. They clearly don't know about Freddy's history. Skeet Ulrich appeared in Hall H, announcing that he'll be in the movie as "somebody with a very particular and specific past and somebody who has a deep emotional tie to what's going on."
For those paying attention, this is sort of a Scream reunion, as Matthew Lillard is returning as villain William Afton. Aside from that, details about Ulrich's character are under wraps. The film is set to hit theaters on Dec. 5.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians, season 2 release date
Pack up for Camp Half-Blood when the fantasy series returns, this time introducing Tantalus, Thalia and the goddess Athena to the story. The new season arrives on Disney Plus on Dec. 10, and fans will see Percy dealing with more than fantastical monsters: Grover goes missing, and there's drama with friends and a new sibling.
Twisted Metal season 2 sneak peek
With a week left before the new episodes of Peacock's Grindhouse series, the show's main cast, which includes Anthony Mackie, Stephanie Beatriz, Anthony Carrigan and Joe Seanoa, along with showrunner Michael Jonathan Smith, hit the stage in Hall H to tease what's in store.
Smith revealed two sneak peek clips for the new season. The first scene found Stu (played by Mike Mitchell) striving to be a better killer. With Sweet Tooth as his mentor, it looks like he has some lofty, murderous goals. Stu takes the crew out, but he missed all the major organs, which Sweet Tooth says is a major no-no. You have to go for "the grapes, the apple or the banana," the evil clown explains. The last victim to die recognizes Sweet Tooth, which brightens the killer's spirits, until he calls him "Big Baby."
Yes, there's a notorious killer out there named "Big Baby," and it looks like Sweet Tooth is going to hunt him down now, too.

The big reveal in this clip comes toward the end, as Axel (played by Michael James Shaw), the character who's attached to two giant wheels, comes barreling through flames, all smiles. Get ready for a trip back into the wastes. Twisted Metal season 2 drops its first three episodes on July 31.

Season 3 sees Norman Reedus' Daryl and Melissa McBride's Carol heading to Spain in the new installment, as they try to find their way home. Although production for season 4 starts soon, there aren't any details about its plot. In the meantime, fans can tune in on Sept. 7 for the next round.
Rick and Morty's President Curtis gets a spinoff
Adult Swim announced that the popular President Curtis is getting his own animated series, with star Keith David reprising his role as the voice behind the titular character.
"President Curtis has always been a blast to play," David said in a statement. "Getting to explore his world more deeply in this new series is a dream. I can't wait for fans to see what kind of chaos he stirs up when Rick isn't around to steal the spotlight."

Alien: Earth brings the Xenomorph to TV
Alien: Earth fans in attendance were treated to a world premiere screening of the pilot episode. After that, show creator Noah Hawley and executive producer David W. Zucker took the stage with cast members Timothy Olyphant, Sydney Chandler, Babou Ceesay, Samuel Blenkin and Alex Lawther to give further insight into what to expect from the sci-fi drama.
The first immediate detail any fan of the franchise will notice is how familiar-feeling things will be in the first few moments of the series. Hawley revealed during the panel that the Maginot, the ship in the series, "was built to the exact specifications" of the Nostromo from the original 1979 movie.

Sydney Chandler's Wendy is basically the show's Ripley. She's a different sort of synthetic human (the consciousness of a 12-year-old girl lives inside her). There's plenty of Xenomorph action, along with some other creepy specimens. Honestly, this may be the sci-fi series of the year. It premieres on Aug. 12 on Hulu.
Gen V season 2 trailer gets a boost from Starlight
A panel for Boys spin-off Gen V teased a tense and gory sophomore year for Marie and fellow supes at Godolkin University. Gen V's second season is set after the fourth season of The Boys and debuts with three episodes on Sept. 17.
During the panel, which featured series creator Eric Kripke, producer Michelle Fazekas and stars Jaz Sinclair, London Thor, Derek Lu, Maddie Phillips and newcomer Hamish Linklater, a brand-new trailer for the upcoming season was shown. It looks like Starlight is coming to Godolkin, and she has a big job for Marie that'll surely inform the new storyline and, potentially, the plot of the final season of The Boys.
The Boys season 5's Jared Padalecki
Speaking of The Boys ... To whet the appetites of the fans in the room, Kripke dropped a little clip for the fifth and final season of the hit comic book series. In the sneak peek, Homelander (who now has political power) addresses a crowd. "This is a safer, more god-fearing nation," he says. Yet fear is the only thing on the faces of those he's speaking to.
Other characters who pop up are a furious Billy Butcher, Soldier Boy in a cryo-tank and a first-ever glimpse of Supernatural star Jared Padalecki. Having Padalecki and Jenson Ackles back on screen together is enough to get me to tune in.
Predator: Badlands sneak peek
Director Dan Trachtenberg and stars Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi and Elle Fanning hit the Hall H stage to promote Predator: Badlands. Is this the Predator/Alien crossover movie we've been yearning for? It doesn't seem so. Trachtenberg revealed that Badlands will focus on the relationship between Elle Fanning's Weyland-Yutani android (a detail that connects both franchises) and the Predator.

Everything is apparently out to kill the Predator here. "He's essentially the Dutch of this movie," Trachtenberg revealed, referencing Arnold Schwarzenegger's character in the classic film. Fun tidbit: The scene of the droid and Predator being strapped together in Badlands was inspired by Chewbacca and C-3PO from Star Wars.
As for a sneak peek, the first 15 minutes of the movie were shown. In it, the Predator had to fight another Predator -- his brother, it turns out -- in a cave. Our main Predator loses the battle, which prompts his Predator father to send him out into the wild to prove himself. He must head to another planet and hunt an "unkillable" creature that even sparks fear in his own dad.
Tron: Ares had a light show and music video

After nearly 15 years, Tron returned to San Diego. The last time fans headed to the grid, Tron: Legacy took Hall H by storm. It's been a long time coming, and director Joachim Rønning and stars Jared Leto, Jeff Bridges, Greta Lee, Jodie Turner-Smith, Cameron Monaghan, Gillian Anderson and Evan Peters gave the Comic-Con crowd an exciting look at the next entry in the iconic franchise, Tron: Ares.
One clip showed Peters' Julian Dillinger (who shares the name of the villain from the 1982 movie) sending Leto's Ares and Turner-Smith's Athena on a mission to get Eve Kim (played by Lee) and the stick of important code that she stole from Encom, Dillinger's company. Eve evades them and steals Athena's light cycle. She barely escapes, and another clip found her entering the Grid for the first time. Ares rescues her from an ocean of digital water. She finally agrees to help Ares find the code. Glitzy red and blue laser light beams bounced across the room and screen, dazzling the crowd for a final time when Nine Inch Nails' music video for As Alive As You Need Me to Be played.
Crunchyroll to launch 'Anime Nights'
Crunchyroll's presence at SDCC this year includes a FanFest music event featuring artists across multiple genres in a two-day anime-inspired concert series. But on Saturday, the anime giant announced the addition of Anime Nights, which will see the company screen feature films in theaters across the US each third Monday of the month.
Beginning Oct. 20, fans can gather to see films like Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid: A Lonely Dragon Wants to be Loved. Crunchyroll says it will offer programming at 225 movie houses across the US, including Alamo Drafthouse, AMC, Cinemark, Harkins, Landmark and Regal theaters.

Uptick in stingray injuries in Seal Beach; How you can avoid -- and soothe -- the sting
As Southern Californians enjoy their long summers at the beach, Seal Beach lifeguards are cautioning visitors about the seasonal uptick in stingray-related injuries. In Seal Beach, the average number of stingray stings treated by lifeguards has jumped from one per day to about 10, rising to as many as 15 per day in the last two weeks, said Matthew Corb, marine safety officer for the city of Seal Beach. "We had a long period with not much surf, so there wasn't a lot of swell in the water, and when there isn't a lot of water movement, the ocean gets kind of flat," said Nicholas Bolin, marine safety lieutenant. "That draws stingrays closer to the shore." Stingrays come in at shallower depths because they're more comfortable in calm, warm waters, he said. "When you got hot weather, tons of people at the beach, low tide and not much surf, those are the days where we're seeing that [higher] number," Bolin said. As of Friday afternoon, the lifeguards had treated three stings. Where am I most likely to run into a stingray? The west end of Seal Beach, at the mouth of the San Gabriel River, is known among locals as "ray bay," for its population of — and run-ins with — stingrays. That's because a power plant located a couple of miles inland warms the water, which attracts stingrays, Bolin said. In 2010, it was reported that one-third of nationwide stingray-related injuries were documented at this specific area of the beach. Thirteen years later, the Shark Lab at the California State University, Long Beach, noted that the stingray population was at an all-time high in Seal Beach, with an estimated 30,000 stingrays in the water, ABC News reported. That year researchers said several factors contributed to the population boom, including climate change, better water quality and a decrease in the population of the stingray's predator, white sharks. What kind of fish is a stingray? Stingrays are part of a group of fish known as "batoids" and are closely related to sharks, according to the Shark Lab. Researchers say most stingrays spend their time resting on the seafloor foraging for clams, marine worms, shrimp, isopods, crabs and small fish. A stingray's defense mechanism is to camouflage itself on top of the ocean floor's sand or buried under it. But if stepped on by a human, it will sting, according to California State Parks. The sting comes from the stingray's sharp, barbed stingers on the fish's tails. When the stinger pierces the skin, "it can cause puncture wounds, injection of venom, and tissue damage, leading to pain, swelling, and occasionally secondary infection," according to the state agency. Experts say most stingray-related injuries are reported in the afternoon when the water is warmer and more people are enjoying the ocean. How can I avoid getting stung? To avoid a stingray on the shore, shuffle your feet without picking them up as you move through the water. "You're going to shuffle your feet in the sand until you get out to a point that's deep enough that you can swim or jump on your surfboard," Bolin said. This alerts the buried stingray that you are approaching and gives them a chance to get away, the Shark Lab advises. If you're stung by a stingray, experts recommend soaking the affected area in hot, fresh water for 30 to 90 minutes, or until the pain subsides. Ideally, you'll want to maintain the water temperature at 104 to 113 degrees. The hot water breaks down the stinger venom, relieves the pain of the sting and prevents infection, according to the California State Parks. Aside from the soak, individuals who have been stung are advised to seek medical attention from a healthcare practitioner. When visiting Seal Beach, Bolin recommends checking in with a lifeguard about stingray-related injuries or stingray sightings so you can navigate the ocean safely and enjoy your visit. Arnold Schwarzenegger's 'FUBAR' canceled at Netflix after 2 seasons
The series, which first debuted on Netflix in 2023, marked the first leading role for the actor on a scripted television show. Turns out, he won't be back. Arnold Schwarzenegger's action series FUBAR will not be returning for a third season at Netflix, Entertainment Weekly can confirm. A source adds that the streamer is proud of the work that producers, cast, and crew put into the show. The series, which first debuted on Netflix in 2023, marked the first leading role for the actor on a scripted television show. The first season was a ratings hit, according to the streamer, but the second season apparently had a much quieter debut in June. (According to Variety, season 2 made Nielsen's streaming originals top 10 only for the week of June 16, and fell off thereafter.) Per the logline, FUBAR follows a father and daughter who learn that they've each secretly been working as CIA Operatives for years. The two then realize their entire relationship has been a lie and that they truly don't know one another at all. Forced to team up as partners, the series tackles universal family dynamics against a global backdrop of spies, action, and humor. In a statement ahead of the series premiere, creator, showrunner, and executive producer Nick Santora called the show "by far, the most surreal project of my career." He continued, "I grew up watching Arnold Schwarzenegger films — I'd hit my dad up for a few bucks so I could race to the movies and see the biggest star in the world on the big screen — so creating the first scripted television project for Arnold is unbelievably exciting for me." Santora added, "The thing I always marveled at was how Schwarzenegger could be funny while still kicking ass ... that's why I wanted FUBAR to be a hysterical, CIA-spy comedy mixed with heart-stopping action! Bid to relocate US Space Shuttle Discovery faces museum pushback
Tucked inside President Donald Trump's flagship tax and spending bill last month was a little-noticed provision to relocate the iconic Space Shuttle Discovery from a museum outside Washington to Houston. The plan now faces legal uncertainty, with the Smithsonian Institution arguing Congress had no authority to give away what it considers private property -- even before accounting for the steep logistical and financial challenges. "The Smithsonian Institution owns the Discovery and holds it in trust for the American public," the museum network, which receives substantial federal funding yet remains an independent entity, said in a statement to AFP on Friday. "In 2012, NASA transferred 'all rights, title, interest and ownership' of the shuttle to the Smithsonian," the statement continued, calling Discovery one of the museum's "centerpieces" that welcomes millions of visitors a year. The push to move Discovery from the Air and Space Museum's site in northern Virginia began in April, when Texas Senator John Cornyn, a Republican who faces a tough primary challenge next year by state attorney general Ken Paxton, introduced the "Bring the Space Shuttle Home Act," naming Discovery. The legislation stalled until it was folded into the mammoth "Big Beautiful Bill," signed into law on July 4. Its passage allocated $85 million for the move, though the nonpartisan Congressional Research Service has projected a far higher cost of $325 million, adding that the NASA administrator's power over non-NASA entities is "unclear." To comply with Senate rules, the bill's language was modified such that Discovery is no longer named directly. Instead, the bill refers to a "space vehicle," though there is little doubt as to the target. NASA's administrator -- currently Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, serving in an acting capacity -- was given 30 days to identify which spacecraft is to be relocated, a deadline coming up on Sunday. - End of an era - NASA's Space Shuttle program ended in 2011, after a 30-year run that carried America's post-Apollo space ambitions. The four surviving orbiters -- Atlantis, Endeavour, prototype Enterprise, and Discovery -- were awarded to Florida, California, New York, and Virginia through a ranked selection process. Discovery, the most flown, was chosen as a vehicle-of-record in a near-complete state, intended for study by future generations. "There was not a lot of support within Houston to want a shuttle," space historian Robert Pearlman told AFP, adding that a proposal to house it at Space Center Houston was relatively weak. But after the announcement, Texas -- home to the Johnson Space Center, which oversees NASA's human spaceflight -- felt snubbed, and allegations of political interference by then-president Barack Obama swirled. A NASA inspector general probe found no evidence of foul play. - Enormous challenges - Relocating Discovery now would pose major technical hurdles. NASA had modified two Boeing 747s to ferry retired shuttles -- one is now a museum piece, and the other is out of service. That leaves land and water transport. "The nearest water entrance to the Potomac River is about 30 miles away," Pearlman said -- but it may be too shallow for the orbiter and required barge, requiring a 100-mile journey instead. A water transport would require a massive enclosed barge, he added. The US government owns only one such vessel, controlled by the military. Loaning it to a civilian agency would require another act of Congress, and the alternative would involve building one from scratch. Dennis Jenkins, a former shuttle engineer who oversaw the delivery of retired orbiters to their new homes, told the Collect Space outlet he could see costs reach a billion dollars. Nicholas O'Donnell, an attorney at Sullivan & Worcester with expertise in art and museum law, told AFP that assuming Smithsonian has valid paperwork, "I don't think Secretary Duffy or anyone in the federal government has any more authority to order the move of Discovery than you or I do." The government could invoke eminent domain -- seizing private property for public use -- but it would have to pay fair market value or try to sue. The Smithsonian is unlikely to want a court battle, and while it's legally independent, its financial reliance on federal funds leaves it politically vulnerable, said O'Donnell. ia/jgc
