Shayno: In the words of The Seekers Mitchy, the Carnival of Over – the Championships, that is – but there are so many horses racing tomorrow that have Hawkesbury / Scone and Brisbane written all over them. Get out the Black Book.
Mitch: Wide betting card this week Shayno. I am tipping if we can find 2-3 winners on the card, we are coming out in profit land.
Shayno: My pre-emptive Black Booker is Automne Tree. He's by The Autumn Sun from the same family as Gold Trip. Going to need luck to make the cut as an emergency but look out if he does.
Mitch: You'll need a few scratchings yet but if the rain arrives you might just get them. I found that to be one of the harder races on the card. I landed on Yankee One. She's a mare in form from the form yard in the country with a draw that suits.

Shayno: You'd be happy to have a share in pretty much any of those 2YOs in the first race. I know it's hard to beat race-experienced horses on debut but I love the trials of Tyrone's Power, more so after the form has been franked lately.
Mitch: I reckon Hidden Motive is one of the better bets on the program. We went down to a smart one the other day in Aerodrome but they gapped the rest by five. Tipping they are both pretty smart and it will be his day on Saturday.
HIDDEN MOTIVE (2 c Capitalist - Secret Agenda) notches up another nice trial win this morning at @newcastleraces_ 🤩

• 'It's a sad day': Multiple Group 1-winner Happy Clapper dies
Shayno: I've got the great man David Payne pencilled in for a big day. State Of America can trump his rivals again whilst Trafalgar Square is the best weighted horse on the day on a kilo to talent ratio.
Mitch: I really can't believe the price of State Of America. He's beaten both Saganti and Flying Bandit over the past six months and yet he's double the price. All three are nice horses but surely the market has got it wrong.
Three hit the line with the outside prevailing! ðŸ'¸

Shayno: The Precise Air (race eight) is the feature for mine. Great race. I have been tracking Punch Lane since he got here and his runs have been good then better again. He peaks here hopefully.

Group 1 winner Skybird trials at Caulfield ahead of spring return
Don't miss out on the headlines from Horse Racing. Followed categories will be added to My News. Lightning Stakes winner Skybird continued her preparation for another first-up crack at a Group 1 target at Wednesday's Caulfield Heath trials. The Mitch Freedman-trained mare won the Lightning Stakes first-up down the Flemington straight in February but pulled up lame after her maiden Group 1 triumph, ending her autumn preparation. • PUNT LIKE A PRO: Become a Racenet iQ member and get expert tips – with fully transparent return on investment statistics – from Racenet's team of professional punters at our Pro Tips section. SUBSCRIBE NOW! Freedman has aimed the now five-year-old at next month's Group 1 Moir Stakes at The Valley. John Allen rode the daughter of Exosphere in a trial on the Caulfield Heath track in which Skybird finished five lengths from the winner Miss Roumbini. Allen said he was pleased with Skybird's first public appearance for six months. 'She went well enough,' Allen said. 'We weren't out there to do too much so she did everything she was asked.' • 'Blake will be riding whether he likes it or not!': Yeomans goes solo Allen said Skybird would love soft conditions for the $750,000 Moir Stakes on September 6. 'She likes a bit of wet ground too, so if she happens to get a bit of rain or something like that for The Valley, that would certainly help,' Allen said. Retirements of sprint stars such as Bella Nipotina and attractive Sydney sprints are again likely to split the nation's shortcourse elite in the spring. Allen said the current sprint picture could lead to more Group triumphs for Skybird, including at Flemington. • Comeback king set for Melbourne Group 1 spring riches 'They're probably an even bunch this season,' Allen said. 'She was quite dynamic up the straight (in the Lightning Stakes). 'Things did set up nicely for her (in the Lightning Stakes) but she still won impressively. 'Hopefully she can go on from that this prep.' Originally published as Group 1 Lightning Stakes winner Skybird trials at Caulfield ahead of spring return

Japanese Group 1 winner Panja Tower set for Golden Eagle tilt
Don't miss out on the headlines from Horse Racing. Followed categories will be added to My News. Japanese star Panja Tower has been confirmed as the latest foreign raider set for a $10 million Golden Eagle (1500m) assault at Royal Randwick this year. Trainer Shinsuke Hashigushi has put Australia's coveted four-year-old feature in his crosshairs as he attempts to replicate the success of fellow Japanese raider Obamburumai in 2023. Obamburumai gave Japan its first victory in the Golden Eagle two years ago when scoring under the urging of Australian-based jockey Josh Parr. Panja Tower is a winner of three of her five career starts to date and has twice one in stakes grade, including the Group 1 NHK Mile Cup at Tokyo on May 11. 'His trainer, Mr Hashiguchi, when he won the NHK Mile, the first thing he said in his winning interview was that he would send this horse to the Golden Eagle,' Australian Turf Club Head of Racing and Wagering Nevesh Ramdhani told Sky Racing radio. 'That horse is now locked in to travel to Sydney for the race.' • 'Could be anything this season': Legendary hoops pick their spring stars Japan has representation in last year's Golden Eagle with favourite Ascoli Piceno (12th) failing to perform as expected while Corazon Beat finished last. But the international trend continued in the feature with English galloper Lake Forest edging out French talent Lazzat in an incident-charged edition of the race. It is hoped that multiple European gallopers head to Australia again for the four-year-old feature, including recent Thoroughbred Stakes victor Seagulls Eleven. Seagulls Eleven, which is raced by members of the Premier League's Brighton Hove Albion, is a $26 chance in betting. • Skyhook, Pallaton duel for Rosebud favouritism Trainer Hugo Palmer confirmed last Friday to Racing TV that a trip to Australia was still on the radar. 'It's a lot of money to pass up so we'll just have to see.' he said. Fellow English trainer Charlie Fellowes last week reiterated his desire to bring Luther ($26) to Australia for the Golden Eagle. She'll be better for it and should be hard to hold out from barrier three. ■ ■ ■ ■ ■ NEXT BEST UNSNOOZUAL (Race 3 No.3): The Matt Laurie-trained first-starter has performed well at jumpouts leading up to his debut and has found a race that gave him a top chance to score on debut. SEA POEM (Race 8 No.4): The Lindsay Park-trained mare closed solidly at Bairnsdale at her first run for six weeks last time. She'll be much fitter for that and blinkers go on for this. ■ ■ ■ ■ ■ VALUE BET A PINCH OF LUCK (Race 7 No.3): Has won a couple first-up and has saluted over the 1200m course at Bairnsdale. She could show up fresh on Tuesday. ■ ■ ■ ■ ■ LAY OF THE DAY KAAZI (Race 1 No. 3): Zaaki's little brother trailed the field throughout in town on debut but has come up favourite for the first at Bairnsdale. He'll need more ground than the 1600m of Tuesday's race. ■ ■ ■ ■ ■ THE JOCKEY – THOMAS STOCKDALE The young hoop heads to Bairnsdale for five rides on Tuesday.
