Car Deal of the Day: the stylish Ford Capri is now as cheap as the Explorer

Auto Express29-07-2025
Coupe looks, SUV practicality
Good to drive; £2,200 pack for free
Just £228 a month
It may share little with its original namesake in looks and packaging, but the latest Ford Capri does have one thing in common – and that's aspiration. It sits above its sister car, the Explorers as a more sporting, prestigious model. And yet, right now, you can lease one for the same dough.
On the Auto Express Find a Car service, Ford's own dealer group, TrustFord, is offering the Capri for a bonkers £228 a month – that's the cheapest we've ever seen. TrustFord is also offering the Explorer for exactly the same price a month with an identical £2,736 initial payment, so take your choice. Advertisement - Article continues below
We'd be tempted to opt for the Capri, though. This deal gets you the entry-level Style with the smaller battery pack, so features such as 19-inch aero alloy wheels, a 14.6-inch touchscreen, a soundbar, LED headlights and intelligent adaptive cruise control with Stop & Go, all come as standard.
But, get this – TrustFord is also throwing in the Driver Assistance Pack for free, getting you keyless entry with door-handle illumination, a head-up display, a 360-degree parking camera and an electric tailgate, among other features. This would normally cost you £2,200 alone but here's it's zilch.
The 52kWh battery pack will give you a claimed 242 miles of range, so around 220 miles in everyday driving is likely. Meanwhile, a 168bhp electric motor powering the rear wheels gives more than enough poke.
Handling-wise, the Capri doesn't drive like a two-door sports car, but it is rather good for a large, five-door coupe-SUV, with solid body control and a well controlled ride.
The interior is a near carbon-copy of the Explorer's, so it's modern, well laid-out and nicely finished. And despite that sloping roofline, space in the back is very good, while the boot capacity is an impressive 572 litres.
The Car Deal of the Day selections we make are taken from our own Auto Express Find A Car deals service, which includes the best current offers from car dealers and leasing companies around the UK. Amazon Autos Is Selling New And Used Cars That Aren't All Hyundais

By signing up I agree to the Terms of Use and acknowledge that I have read the Privacy Policy . You may unsubscribe from email communication at anytime. A Long Time Coming Nearly nine years ago, this publication reported on a collaboration between Amazon and Hyundai, where the former would deliver the latter's Elantras to customers for short test drives. In November 2023, the pair announced that they would begin selling cars directly to the public on the e-commerce platform, which began in December 2024, and in March this year, Fan Jin, director of Amazon Autos, said that the company was exploring used car sales. Now, the company is ready to dip a toe into the market, and not just with Hyundai cars, either. According to an announcement by Amazon this week, dealers can now list their used vehicle inventory on the site. Amazon Autos Will Be Available Across The Country Amazon says that it has used and certified pre-owned vehicles now available in Los Angeles, with more cities to be added in the coming months, thanks to participating dealers being listed in more than 130 cities across the country. However, customers will only be shown listings available within a 75-mile radius of their location to minimize hassle for them and the dealers they're in contact with. The filter can also be refined to 50- or 25-mile radii. To begin with, customers' choices will be limited to Hyundai dealers, but more are expected to be added soon. The initiative aims to attract customers with the promise of no hidden fees and a comprehensive report of each listed vehicle's history. Customers can also schedule test drives with participating dealerships online, and after purchase, a three-day/300-mile return policy is complemented by a minimum 30-day/1,000-mile limited warranty on each car. What You Can Find Head over to the Amazon Autos website, and you can lease or purchase a Palisade, Kona, Tucson, Santa Fe, Sonata, or just about anything else you could find on a Hyundai website, including EVs (besides the Ioniq 5 N, which will be added soon but can already be purchased used). Jeep, BMW, and Ram vehicles can be found, but oddly, one of the images Amazon Auto used to advertise this new used car marketplace is of a Lada Vesta SW Cross, a Russian-made family car that is not nor ever was sold in America. Weird. Perhaps American-made cars don't look affordable enough. Source: Hyundai About the Author Sebastian Cenizo View Profile

Car Deal of the Day: Mazda CX-30 offers plenty of fun for under £217 a month

Fun to drive; high refinement levels Comfortable, well made interior Just £216.96 a month The Mazda CX-30 stands out in the small SUV class for a number of reasons. But easily the most compelling reason why you'd buy one is simply because it's great fun to drive. Judging by this deal, though, you can factor in excellent value for money, too. Advertisement - Article continues below Scouring the Auto Express Find a Car service, we found Leasing Options is offering Mazda's smallest SUV for a bargain £216.96 a month. This three-year deal requires a £2,953.51 initial payment to get things moving, and mileage is capped at 5,000 a year. But should you need more, an 8,000-miles-a-year limit can be had for less than £14 extra a month. The CX-30 is a genuinely enjoyable drive, and it embarrasses plenty of other more expensive and prestigious small SUVs. At its heart is a 2.5-litre, four-cylinder mild-hybrid petrol engine. No, that isn't a typo – Mazda really does fit a large-capacity engine to a small car. It's a rarity these days, but Mazda believes that higher-capacity engines are cleaner and give better fuel economy. Mazda says you'll likely see just over 47mpg in normal driving. With 138bhp, the engine performs smoothly, delivering strong refinement and punchy performance. Here, it's matched to an excellent six-speed manual gearbox that's precise and a joy to use. Along with the enthusiastic engine, there is engaging handling to match. Meanwhile, the interior is well made and the tech is easy to use. It's not the roomiest small SUV around, that's for sure, but it has that enjoyment factor in spades. Plus, standard equipment is good – this Prime-Line trim gets you 16-inch alloys, a 10.25-inch infotainment screen, electrically adjustable and heated door mirrors, radar cruise control, LED headlights, and rear parking sensors. Help! I need a mile-munching saloon for £6,000

Dear Auto Express, I'm after a comfy, mile-munching saloon car , but my budget is a relatively lowly £6,000 – what do you recommend? - Geoff Tooley, By E-mail A budget of £6,000 is not a lot to spend on a used car these days, and if you want something with a bit of luxury, you're going to have to compromise somewhere. Advertisement - Article continues below Traditionally, wise money would opt for a slightly older model with lower mileage over a higher-mileage newer variant with fresher styling and more bells and whistles. However, given that the nation's keeping their cars longer than ever and the ever increasing cost to buy a new car, it's becoming harder to find those gems. It's not the end of the world, with many well looked-after cars, especially in this premium segment, taking high mileage in their stride. Given the price requirements, the options are limited so expect some higher mileage examples, which shouldn't be an issue if the cars have been properly maintained. These are the three 'executive' choices that would tempt us. Here's our expert pick for three of the best mile munching saloons you can get for under £6,000, together with links to buy them through our Find a Car service … For: Sporty chassis, powerful and efficient engines Sporty chassis, powerful and efficient engines Against: Style has moved on, practicality isn't great Skip advert Advertisement - Article continues below To find a BMW 3 Series in budget and with reasonable miles, you'll be looking at 10 to 12-year-old sixth-generation/F30 cars. Newer Mk7 models introduced from 2018 – especially from dealers – are likely to have massive miles on the clock, which will put off many buyers. Advertisement - Article continues below Nicely looked-after F30s sold privately would be our favoured option for a car of this age, and we found a good selection of 2013 318d, 320i and 320d models with attractive histories priced between £5,500 and £6,500. Owners like the F30 3 Series, which arrived in 2013 with styling that was a little more conservative than some of its contemporary BMW stablemates. It was hugely popular, but looks a little dated today. More importantly, the F30's exceptional driver appeal has not diminished over the years, and if you opt for a punchier 320i or 320d over the entry-level 318i, you'll enjoy the oomph to match the refinement of the chassis. There are plenty of more muscular options for buyers blessed with bigger budgets, but 60mpg diesel variants are within your range. See our used BMW 3 Series deals For: Elegance and style, luxurious cabin, comfortable ride Elegance and style, luxurious cabin, comfortable ride Against: Less engaging to drive than rivals Skip advert Advertisement - Article continues below Again, you'll be looking back two generations to find a C-Class with reasonably low miles, which means the third-gen W204 launched in 2007 and was facelifted in 2011 with its improved dashboard, swoopier lamps and LED tail-lights. Through the Auto Express marketplace you can find a sub-80k 2013 C200 CDI within budget. Advertisement - Article continues below As with the BMW, there's a multitude of engine options for those with bigger budgets, but for most drivers, the entry-level petrol and diesel engines will be sufficiently rewarding and decently economical. Unlike the previous-generation C-Class, which some felt was a bit below par for the company, this W204 generation was a definite return to form for Mercedes. The car's quality and reliability should be excellent, and compared with the 3 Series (above), the C-Class leans towards a more comfortable and luxurious ride, without its rival's more overtly sporting feel. See our used Mercedes C-Class deals For: Luxury, style and great chassis dynamics Luxury, style and great chassis dynamics Against: Higher running costs and repair bills Jaguar's follow-up to the S-Type was a hit that didn't only look and feel good, but also drove beautifully. And while it's from a class higher than the 3 Series and E-Class, that means you're getting a bigger and more luxurious car for your cash. Skip advert Advertisement - Article continues below If you want a low mileage, you might have to look for a slightly older model to stay on budget. Also consider a diesel to keep fuel costs down. We've seen 2013 2.2d Sport XFs with under 100k miles from just under £6,000. A full service history is advisable. The Jaguar XF was introduced to rave reviews in 2008, and racked up multiple awards, including Auto Express Car of The Year. It also scored first place in the 2009 Driver Power survey, and was a regular fixture in the top five for the next five years. In 2013, the XF was facelifted with more aggressive headlights and an updated front end. Its qualities are still there to be appreciated, including a fine, high-quality cabin with its bespoke 'gentleman's club' feel, and a superlative chassis that's full of finesse and feel for appreciative drivers. Petrol variants can be a bit thirsty, but diesels are pleasantly refined once you're up and running. See our used Jaguar XF deals Did you know you can sell your car with Auto Express?
