The box office is shining in its full glory with back-to-back successes in the form of Saiyaara and Mahavatar Narsimha. But the victory run of the two films has also started a fight in showcasing all across the country. As Ajay Devgn returns to the screen with Son of Sardaar 2, the distributors, PVRInox are finding it tough to get the required shows in the non-national chains and single screens. 'Saiyaara is running strong at the box office, and exhibitors are not willing to let go of the romantic saga in the third week too. Mahavatar Narsimha is also beginning to gain momentum, and with audience demand, there is a spike in showcasing for the film,' a trade source shared.
The source further added, 'Being a comedy film from a franchise with Ajay Devgn in the lead, PVRInox is demanding 60 per cent of the total showcasing, however, exhibitors are willing allot not more than 35 per cent of shows at their properties. While some single screens have agreed on two-shows per-day, the non-national chains are willing to give not more than 35 per cent shows to Son of Sardaar 2. This has left PVRInox fuming, and the fight is on to secure more shows.'
Interestingly, the present showcasing plan is favouring Saiyaara as also Mahavatar Narsimha in the non-national chains and single screens. 'Dhadak 2 team is going tight with their release with about 1000 screens on the first day. They are not looking for a wide release, and content with a strategic release on 1000 screens, mainly focused towards the urban markets. It's a strategy similar to what team Dharma followed with Kesari 2, and they are looking to increase their shows over the weekend if the word of mouth comes in their favour. The issue is with Son of Sardaar 2 – a bigger film, which is aiming for a release on over 3500 screens, but the circumstances might restrict it to 2500 screens with scattered showcasing,' the source shared.
At 4 screen property, the proposed allocation at the moment is – 6 shows of Son of Sardaar, 5 shows for Saiyaara, 4 shows for Dhadak, 3 shows for Mahavatar Narsimha and the remaining for the other holdover releases. The 3 screen properties on the other hand have proposed a showcasing of 5 shows for Son of Sardaar, 4 shows for Saiyaara, 3 for Dhadak 2 and the remaining for Mahavatar Narsimha. On the contrary, the single screens have proposed 2 shows for Son of Sardaar 2, 2 shows for Saiyaara and 1 show for Mahavatar Narsimha. 'PVR Pictures has demanded 4 shows from some single screen owners, who at the moment have decided to skip Son of Sardaar 2 for the holdover releases – Saiyaara and Mahavatar Narsimha,' the source concluded. Surprisingly, some single-screens owners are willing continue Saiyaara in the third week too on all the four shows, based on the strong demand from the audiences.
The negotiations are still in progress at all the centres, and a clear picture on the show sharing ratios will be available by Thursday morning. Stay tuned to Pinkvilla for more updates, as the things will get crisper from here.

Exclusive: Why Mohit Suri Walked Out Of A Saiyaara Scene Starring Ahaan Panday And Aneet Padda

New Delhi: Even three weeks after its release, Saiyaara continues to run strong at the box office. But director Mohit Suri's most defining moment didn't come from collections or reviews, it came while shooting a quiet piano scene in Madh Island. 'I remember this one instance in the film, and I'm someone who's very critical about his own work,' he said in an exclusive conversation with NDTV. 'We were shooting the piano scene, when she says something and he just kisses her forehead and he's leaving. When that shot happened, I just walked out of that… We were shooting in Madh Island, I walked out and Sumana, who's our creative producer, was on set, and I said, 'Sumana, I am making a very good film.'' Suri, known for his deeply emotional and musical narratives, said the scene moved him not because of pride in his own direction but because of the honesty the cast brought to it. 'I cry on the monitor. I've cried quite a few times. But I don't like to talk about it because I've seen a lot of directors become mimics of themselves and cry when they don't need to,' he added. The filmmaker spoke at length about how making this movie took him back to his core emotions and music. ' 'It feels relieved. The collections are an added bonus, no doubt, but it's the love that's so humbling. When you put yourself into a film so much, and you've kept to the essentials, your voice, your emotions. It's amazing to see that India has accepted that. You can have hits and misses, but when you're accepted for who you are, that's what matters.' Suri, whose last romantic musical hit was Aashiqui 2 over a decade ago, credits his producers and cast for giving him the freedom to create without the commercial pressures that often cloud the filmmaking process. 'They never gave me a number, never asked for a certain kind of opening or chartbuster. They just said, give us your best film, give us your best music. There's a difference. That's what gave me the wings to fly, to be fearless.' He also shared that producer Aditya Chopra's early faith in the film gave him confidence. 'Adi sir saw a very loose cut and decided the release date. He was confident from the start. I was in Class 8 when I watched Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge and dreamt of making a love story like that. So, for someone like him to say, 'You've made a great film,' meant a lot.' The director reflected on how humbling the entire journey has been, especially the audience's response. 'I'm really indebted to my producers, my actors, and my audience. Often, we say we gave actors a chance, but really, they took me into their world and helped me meet a new generation again.' 'You don't plan to make a blockbuster. You plan to make a good film. That's what we tried to do. No shaadi song, no pressure to add a Punjabi beat. I cast people who felt right, not names that would sell.' For Mohit Suri, it wasn't about manufacturing a hit.

Saiyaara actor Varun Badola makes shocking revelations about the movie's promotions: 'Little overboard…, man in drip was…'

Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda's debut film Saiyaara has created a stir in Indian cinema. Directed by Mohit Suri, this film is not only breaking records at the box office, but has also set a new example in the romantic musical genre. It has become the first romantic film to earn such a huge amount. It has received a tremendous response from the audience, so tremendous that videos of fans' emotional reactions on social media have become a viral sensation. Now, an actor of the film has given a big statement regarding Saiyaara, which is surprising everyone. This actor is none other than Varun Badola, who plays the onscreen role of Krish Kapoor's father. Varun Bodala is a popular TV star who is known for his work in Meri Dad Ki Dulhan, Des Mein Nikla Hoga Chand, Kohra, Kumkum and Qubool Hai . Were people paid for indirectly promoting Saiyaara? As soon as the film was released, several videos surfaced showing young people lying on the floor inside and outside theatres, tearing their T-shirts, crying uncontrollably, and even fainting. The most attention-grabbing of these was a video of a young man named Faizal, a resident of Sadana, who came to watch the film in a theatre with an IV drip attached, leaving people shocked. After the video went viral, the focus shifted from the man's emotions to the film's marketing strategy. Many began speculating that this was a PR stunt by the makers to ensure the film's success. Some argued that such actions couldn't have come from regular moviegoers and claimed that these people were paid participants, questioning, 'Why would a common man do something like this in a theatre?' Varun Badola clarified that he understands the need and process of promotion, but it feels good only within a limit. He told Screen, 'No film can earn 500 crores based on Instagram promotion alone. This means that people are actually going and watching the film and they are liking it very much.' 'By the third or fourth day, the film was being talked about. I saw the euphoria on Instagram. Log jo chudiyaan tod rahe hain, chhaatiyaan peet rahe hai (People were breaking their bangles, beating their chest). I think the promotions team went a little overboard there, where people are going to see the film, putting IV drips', he added. He concluded, 'Those people must have been told to give content in some way; thank god, people didn't get their legs broken and went crawling to see the film. It's okay. We understand promoting the film, but it's good only up to a certain level. However, the film cannot earn so much money just based on Instagram promotions. People have gone and seen the film, and they have loved it.'

Mahavatar Narsimha Box Office Collection Day 14: Ashwin Kumar's animated epic nears ₹115 crore in India

Mahavatar Narsimha Box Office Collection Day 14: Ashwin Kumar's mythological animated feature, created on a reported budget of ₹ 15 crore, is inching closer to the ₹ 150 crore milestone at the global box office. Following a strong performance in North America, the Kannada-language film is set to release in Australia and New Zealand on Thursday, August 7, according to the makers. On Day 14 of its theatrical run, Mahavatar Narsimha earned ₹ 1.92 crore (net) at the domestic box office on Wednesday (Day 13), as per estimates from industry tracker Sacnilk. With this, the film's India net collection has reached ₹ 114.72 crore, a remarkable achievement for an animated movie in India. Final updates are awaited and may push the figure even higher. As per Sacnilk, the film has also garnered ₹ 5.15 crore from overseas markets through limited international screenings. The global collection is expected to surge in the coming days as more international showings are added. This brings the total worldwide earnings of Mahavatar Narsimha to ₹ 132.25 crore, with its India gross pegged at ₹ 127.1 crore so far. In North America alone, Prathyangira Cinemas—one of the film's overseas distribution partners—reported a gross of over $400,000. Back home, the Kannada movie has been released in multiple languages, including Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, and Malayalam, helping it reach a wider audience. Film trade analyst Sumit Kadel described the film's success as a breakthrough moment for Indian animation. 'Mahavatar Narsimha crossing the ₹ 100 crore mark is a landmark event for the Indian film industry. While Hollywood animated films often rake in $1-2 billion globally, India has now proved it can deliver high-scale animated storytelling too,' he shared on X.
