A five-year-old pet Labrador died of suffocation after being left locked inside a parked car in the scorching heat while its owners went for prayers at a temple in Vrindavan, Uttar Pradesh.
The incident which took place on Tuesday near Shriyad Hospital and has sparked outrage after a video of the dog struggling inside the car went viral on social media.
The couple, who had travelled to Vrindavan for darshan, left their dog inside the vehicle with the windows only slightly open. Despite a security guard advising them to take the dog along, they said the animal was sleeping and would be fine. They also mentioned they had left a window slightly open for ventilation, Lokmat Times reported.

However, as the afternoon heat intensified, bystanders heard the dog's desperate cries.
A widely shared video of the incident shows a crowd gathered around the car, trying to rescue the dog. The pet is seen trapped under the driver's seat, unable to move, desperately gasping for air with its tongue hanging out.
Although some urged breaking the window, a mechanic was called instead. By the time the door was finally opened—after nearly 45 minutes—the dog had already died from suffocation.
Locals poured water on the pet and rushed it by rickshaw to a veterinary hospital, but it was declared dead on arrival. The couple returned from the temple to find a crowd gathered near their car. Upon learning their pet had died, they broke down in tears.
The death has led to widespread condemnation, with animal rights groups and citizens calling for stricter laws and penalties against such neglect. Police have also launched an investigation under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.

South African national sentenced to 15 years jail for smuggling heroin

Special Judge P P Jadhav said the prosecution has proved beyond a reasonable doubt that the accused smuggled 3.980 kg of heroin into India. Delhi Police constable injured in attack during raid on bootleggers premises
New Delhi, Aug 5 (PTI) A Delhi Police constable sustained serious injuries after a police team was attacked by a group of people, including a known bootlegger and his family members, during a raid in southeast Delhi's Gautampuri area, an official said on Tuesday. The incident took place on Monday evening after constable Lakhan of the Special Staff in the southeast district received a tip-off about a large consignment of illicit liquor being stored at the residence of Kailash (63), a habitual offender with multiple cases under the Excise Act, he said. 'Acting on the information, inspector Rajinder Singh Dagar, in-charge of the Special Staff, formed a team comprising sub-inspector Shubham and other personnel. The team, dressed in civil clothes, reached the location around 8 pm," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) Hemant Tiwari said. During initial surveillance, constables Lakhan and Satbir observed Kailash and another man openly selling liquor on the staircase of the house, he added. When the police team attempted to intervene, Kailash allegedly incited the crowd by shouting that someone should be killed to protect the business. Following this, Kailash, his wife Seeta, an associate named Sameer, a 17-year-old juvenile, and several others allegedly attacked the police team with lathis and bricks. Meanwhile, additional police force was called to the spot, and the situation was brought under control. Kailash, Seeta, Sameer, and the juvenile were apprehended, while others managed to flee under the cover of the gathered crowd. A case under relevant sections of the BNS was registered at the Badarpur police station. Two youths attacked, puppy dies in violence at Lko fuel pump
A young man was assaulted by seven - eight people and his two-month-old puppy was killed in the violence, in the Rajajipuram area of Lucknow, on Monday. Police said the attackers and victim knew each other and attributed the attack to one-upmanship. An FIR in the incident, which unfolded at a petrol pump, was lodged by Prafuldeep Srivastava, 20, at the Talkatora police station late on August 4. According to the FIR, Srivastava, a resident of Rajajipuram, was taking his pet to the veterinary clinic along with his friend Akshat, when he stopped at the Tempo Stand petrol pump to refuel. Some 7 to 8 people reportedly attacked him. In his written complaint, stated that while he was still seated on his bike, the men began hitting him with sticks and fists. When his relative intervened, one of the attackers, identified as Abhijeet Singh, allegedly struck Srivastava on the head with a metal rod, leaving him severely injured and bleeding. The attackers allegedly also assaulted the relative and, in the chaos, the puppy identified as 'Hickey' was fatally injured. The entire incident was captured on CCTV installed at the petrol station. 'Following the complaint, a case was registered under Sections 191(2), 115(2), and 325 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, along with Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960,' said Kuldeep Dubey, SHO, Talkatora. 'We are scanning the CCTV footage and efforts are underway to apprehend the culprits' The FIR names Abhijeet Singh and 7-8 other people. Dubey said that Srivastava was acquainted with the attackers, who were of the same age group. He attributed the attack to personal rivalry.
