Cowboys' Jerry Jones on Micah Parsons trade request: ‘Don't lose any sleep over it'

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones isn't worried about star pass rusher Micah Parsons' trade request and said his message to concerned fans would be, 'Don't lose any sleep over it.' 'We're in good shape. This is negotiation,' Jones said Saturday at training camp, adding that he is not considering trading Parsons. 'I think the world of Micah. That's just the part of negotiation. I don't really place that with any seriousness.' Advertisement The contract situation between Parsons and the Cowboys reached a breaking point this week before he requested a trade Friday. Parsons posted a lengthy statement on X expressing his frustrations with his ongoing contract negotiations and miscommunications over the status of his deal. In the statement, Parsons said the Cowboys were refusing to engage with his agent. 'Micah is a competitor,' coach Brian Schottenheimer said Saturday when asked if Parsons will be on the field in Week 1 against the Philadelphia Eagles. 'I hope to see Micah out there soon. When the business gets worked out, it gets worked out.' Schottenheimer didn't go into specifics about the situation when asked about it before Saturday's training camp session, but he repeatedly said he had 'good conversations' with Parsons and others involved in the negotiations, and he doesn't think the dispute will be a distraction. 'Our guys are focused on what we're trying to build,' Schottenheimer said. 'As we get closer to a game week, it's exciting. We got the Rams coming in here next week. There are plenty of things for us to focus on. We're almost through the install. 'Our guys have a very singular focus, and that's getting better and getting ready to have a hell of a practice today.' However, fans in attendance at training camp made the overhanging situation difficult to ignore. Some were seen with signs that read 'Sell the team!' and 'Pay Micah.' As Jones walked to the practice field, a 'Let's pay Micah!' chant broke out. 'Just pay the man what you owe em,' Cowboys receiver CeeDee Lamb wrote in a post on X. 'I think it's good that our guys are loving and supporting each other. I think that's part of being on a team,' Schottenheimer said of the players' response to Parsons' situation. 'But I don't get caught up in that stuff.' Advertisement Parsons has been on the field at training camp, including Saturday, though mostly as a spectator. A four-time Pro Bowler, Parsons is entering the final year of his rookie deal. 'The business side is the business side,' Schottenheimer said, noting he does not feel stuck in the middle of the contract dispute. 'We're not the only team in the league going through this. It's what happens with big business and elite players.' (Photo of Jerry Jones: Kirby Lee / Imagn Images)

Packers Named Contender to Acquire Micah Parsons in Blockbuster Move

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Green Bay Packers look the part of a potential Super Bowl contender entering the 2025 NFL season. Over the past two years, they have been a borderline contender, but have not been able to get over the hump in the playoffs. Brian Gutekunst has not made the big blockbuster move that many fans and media analysts have expected. That doesn't mean that he wouldn't if the right opportunity presented itself. Could that opportunity have officially presented itself now? Micah Parsons #11 of the Dallas Cowboys lines up before a play at AT&T Stadium on October 1, 2023 in Arlington, Texas. If the Packers want to get aggressive in their pursuit of a championship, there would be no better way to pursue that goal than by acquiring a superstar pass rusher like Parsons. Read more: Browns Receive Concerning Shedeur Sanders Injury Update Heading into the 2025 season, the team's pass rush is one of their biggest weaknesses. Parsons would immediately turn that weakness into a strength. However, a trade for the 26-year-old superstar would not come cheap. Matt Schneidman of The Athletic has suggested Green Bay as a possible trade suitor for Parsons. He even went as far as to suggest a potential trade that could land Parsons in the green and gold. In his suggested trade, the Packers would land Parsons in exchange for a 2026 first-round pick, a 2027 first-round pick, and wide receiver Romeo Doubs. "Green Bay's weakest area could very well be its pass rush, which was inconsistent last season. Enter Parsons, a future Hall of Famer if he continues on this trajectory, to solve that problem," Schneidman wrote. "Parsons off one edge and Rashan Gary, freed from double teams, off the other? Sounds nice to me, and I'm sure to Gutekunst, too. Jerry Jones would love an extra first-rounder in 2026 and 2027, along with a great No. 3 receiver still on his rookie contract in the sure-handed Doubs to slot behind CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens." In 2023, he recorded 64 tackles, 14 sacks, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, and two defended passes in 17 games. Adding that kind of impact to the Green Bay defense might be enough to carry the Packers into the Super Bowl. If it's a legitimate option, the Packers should pursue it. Micah Parsons' Cowboys Saga Gets an NBA Comparison

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. A once-proud franchise again finds itself in familiar territory, but familiarity doesn't always equal harmony. There aren't many NFL or Dallas Cowboys fans who haven't heard the story, but just in case said fan exists, here's a synopsis. Micah Parsons, in just four NFL seasons, has established himself as one of the elite talents at his position and has found his way onto the Pro Bowl roster after each campaign. The fifth-year option on his rookie deal was exercised on April 24, but past that, there are no guarantees about his football future. Oh, he'll be playing somewhere, of that we're certain. The question is this. Will he be playing for the Cowboys or another NFL franchise? Micah Parsons #11 of the Dallas Cowboys looks on against the Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field on November 05, 2023 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Micah Parsons #11 of the Dallas Cowboys looks on against the Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field on November 05, 2023 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania."If Micah is dug in, kudos to you, bro. Hate to see you go. I would love for you be a Dallas Cowboy as long as possible because you're a phenomenal player, but at some point, Jerry and Stephen (Jones) is going to mess with the wrong one and they're going to stand on business for real and not show up to play games." Those were the words of ESPN NFL analyst Marcus Spears during a recent episode of NFL Live. He, by the way, is a former Cowboy who is still a Dallas fan. He continued, mentioning an NBA parallel that Dallas sports fans may be familiar with. "Now, everybody [says], 'Money is going to fix it and eventually he'll break.' Maybe that'll be the case. Maybe Micah Parsons is doing this for a negotiating tactic, but if he's not, I'm telling y'all right now, I'm in Dallas. These fans acted a fool with the Dallas Mavericks when Luka Doncic was let go because they thought that was the face of their franchise." To his credit, Micah has played the role of a good soldier. He hasn't held out. He has been present for mandatory minicamp and training camp, but recently, his patience has worn thin. He has requested a trade from the only NFL team he has ever played for. His teammates have come to his defense, several of them changing their social media avatars to a photo including his likeness. "This is an inflection point for the Dallas Cowboys, their business practices and how they've been doing things if this young man decides, 'I'm gonna be the one player that doesn't go with the regular rigmarole and accept a contract and go back and play with the Cowboys. I'm gonna request a trade and stand on it until they make a move to move me out of the way.'" This is quickly disintegrating into an ugly standoff between player and organization. The Jones family reportedly wants Parsons to accept a deal he agreed to verbally during a previous conversation. We'll see what happens, but here's what we can guarantee. Nothing is going to change if things continue as they are currently transpiring. For more Dallas Cowboys and NFL news, head over to Newsweek Sports
