Sabah confident of hitting tourism target this year

Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Christina Liew ( pic ) said over one million arrivals and RM1 billion in revenue were recorded from January to April, marking an 18 per cent increase compared to the same period last year.
Advertisement She made the remarks after officiating the Asean Travel Exchange (Atex) 2025 on behalf of the Chief Minister, noting this is the first time all 10 Asean countries are represented in such an event held in Sabah. An estimated 500 delegates are attending the tourism exchange, signalling growing regional interest in Sabah as a strategic travel hub. Malaysia, Asean missions celebrate Asean Day 2025 in The Hague

Ambassador of Malaysia and Chair of the Asean Committee in The Hague (ACTH) Datuk Roseli Abdul in his welcoming remarks highlighted Asean's remarkable achievements over the decades and called for renewed efforts to build a resilient, innovative and people-centred Asean community. The event was graced by the presence of Asean Ambassadors from Brussels, the Ambassador of Timor-Leste from London, representatives from the Dutch government and international organisations, as well as members of the media. Gerrie Willems, representing the Netherlands Foreign Ministry, reaffirmed the close ties between Asean and the Netherlands. She expressed optimism that both sides would continue to explore new opportunities and strengthen cooperation based on mutual respect and shared values. The Asean Day 2025 celebration was hailed as a resounding success, underscoring the shared commitment of Asean Member States to deepen friendship, cooperation, and cultural understanding in the Netherlands and beyond. South Korea to send special envoys to Indonesia this week: Presidential Office
SEOUL: South Korea will send a group of special envoys to Indonesia this week to reaffirm the new Lee Jae Myung (pic) government's commitment to deepening ties with the South-East Asian nation, Yonhap News Agency reported, citing the presidential office on Sunday (Aug 10). The delegation, led by Rep. Cho Jeong-sik of the ruling Democratic Party, will make a three-day visit to Jakarta starting Monday, Presidential Spokesperson Kang Yu-jung said in a message to reporters. The envoys will meet with key Indonesian government officials and deliver a letter from Lee to Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto outlining efforts to strengthen bilateral ties, Kang said. They also plan to have broad discussions on ways to further boost practical cooperation in areas such as trade and investment, the defence sector, energy and digital transition, as well as efforts to deepen ties at the regional level involving Asean. Indonesia is one of the 10 Asean member states, which include neighbouring countries such as Malaysia, Vietnam and Cambodia. Practicality of big ceiling fans queried

Kota Kinabalu: Ten of these big ceiling fans are to be installed in Damai Phase 4 shoplots soon after a trial run of one already installed. 'I hope my observation and concern over such proposed decision by the Damai Phase 4 Management Services Committee will reconsider this choice,' said prominent architect Datuk Ho Jia Lit. Advertisement 'My reasons are as follows: Hot air and heat always naturally rise upwards in such enclosed roof spaces. Given possible 100 air conditioners and compressors from 1 to 2 horse power each pumping out extremely hot air nonstop during office hours into these spaces and trapped in this enclosure, the installation of 10 big ceiling fans will only blow all these hot air downwards towards all the customers sitting in all those coffee shops and restaurants below, ' Ho noted. 'We as architects, with our PAM Chapter Institute office located in this Damai Phase 4, we naturally feel it would be better to install exhaust fans centralised on top of all roofing ridges, to suck out all those accumulated hot air to discharge them above the roofing spaces,' Ho said.
