Man fakes employment after layoff, gets job offer with ‘higher salary, better title, remote' work — Here's what happened
A strange incident came to light recently about how a man got hold of a job offer with 'higher salary, better title' and remote work simply by pretending to be employed after he got laid off. A social media user elaborated on his experience and explained the exhilarating sequence of events.
In a post on Reddit, the user stated, 'Back in August, I got laid off unexpectedly. No warning, no severance, just a 'hey, we're restructuring' and a Zoom call that lasted 3 minutes. I panicked.'
All the while the man was unemployed, he lied about the status of his job and didn't disclose the news about being relieved from his previous role to anyone, neither friends nor ex-coworkers. 'I just… pretended I was still working,' he said.
He continued to fake his job by following the everyday routine. 'Every day I'd 'log in,' aka open my laptop and sit there like I was busy. Told people I had meetings. Walked around with AirPods in like I was on calls,' he wrote while describing how he applied for several jobs in the background. The lie was too far stretched as he faked about 'exciting projects at work' even on LinkedIn to give the illusion that he was still employed.
This continued until one fine day a recruiter came across one of those fake posts and reached out. Asserting how his efforts paid off, he said, 'A recruiter….asked if I was open to opportunities. I said yes. Got an interview. Lied through my teeth about the 'current job.' Crushed the interviews. Got an offer higher salary, better title, remote, actual work-life balance.'
The viral post received over 24 thousand reactions. Social media users were in frenzy to know this bewildering tale as one user wrote, 'As soon you know the rules of how to play their game, you can only win. No need to tell, you went by the rules.'
Another user asked, 'What about back ground verification? Didn't they validate the tenure of working years, months?' A third user stated, 'You played the game and you played it right.' A fourth user quipped, 'Probably still unemployed and lying in this post.' Another comment read, 'This is a true example of faking it until you make it.'

IndusInd Bank has shortlisted three veteran bankers for its Chief Executive Officer (CEO) role and submitted the names to the central bank, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), for its approval, reported the news agency Reuters, citing two people aware of the development. Axis Bank's Deputy Managing Director Rajiv Anand, HDFC Bank's Executive Vice President Rahul Shukla, and Bajaj Finance's Managing Director Anup Saha were the three veteran bankers the private institutional lender shortlisted to potentially fill the CEO role. 'Rajiv Anand's name has been given as first priority by the board, given his reputation and the experience he brings to the table,' one of the people aware of the development cited above told the news agency. As per earlier reports, the Reserve Bank asked IndusInd Bank's board of directors to submit three names before the deadline on 30 June 2025. A report from the news portal Economic Times, citing people aware of the development, said that the IndusInd Bank's board is unlikely to consider more contenders for the CEO role. The board has also suggested that the new CEO's term will be for three years at the bank, according to the agency report, citing people aware of the development. The private lender incurred $230 million in the year ended 31 March 2024-25, due to the years of misaccounting of internal derivative trades. This resulted in the resignations of the former CEO, Sumant Kathpalia, and the deputy, Arun Khurana, in April 2025. All three veteran bankers who were shortlisted for the IndusInd Bank CEO role have decades of experience working in the banking system for financial companies or institutional lenders. HDFC Bank's Executive Vice President, Rahul Shukla, has been serving as the Senior Vice President and Head of the Risk Strategy Unit in the institutional lender for the last 21 years, according to the LinkedIn profile. He also holds a chartered accountant certification from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI). ‘He Could Have Asked ChatGPT To Rewrite': CEO Under Fire For ‘Plagiarising' Post On AI

An Indian startup founder is facing backlash online after Internet users discovered that his viral post on artificial intelligence (AI) was not original. The post, which seemed like a thoughtful reflection on AI and its impact on the human brain, was copied from a US-based CEO. Vihan Pratap Singh, the founder and CEO of Blackrose, a quantitative trading firm based in Gurgaon, shared the post on LinkedIn. In it, he described a conversation with a Computer Science graduate from IIT Bombay. The graduate, according to Singh, struggled to find basic words while speaking. 'Like his brain was buffering," Singh wrote. When asked what was wrong, the IIT graduate allegedly replied, 'Sometimes I forget words now. I'm so used to having ChatGPT complete my thoughts that when it's not there, my brain feels… slower." The post warned about the long-term effects of AI. Singh claimed that tools like ChatGPT are doing more than helping people work—they may be changing the way we think. 'We're running the first large-scale experiment on human cognition," he said. 'What happens when an entire generation outsources their thinking?" But the internet soon found that these were not his words. The entire post was copied, almost word for word, from Greg Isenberg, a Florida-based entrepreneur and CEO of Late Checkout. Isenberg had written the same reflection back in December 2024, but mentioned a Stanford graduate instead of an IIT graduate. Singh changed that detail but left the rest of the post the same. The plagiarism was exposed by X user Shobhit Bakliwal. He posted screenshots of both versions side by side. 'This guy straight up stole the post and added IIT-B CS grad," Bakliwal wrote. Social media users were quick to criticise Singh. One wrote, 'There's a reason he is the Founder and CEO of his one-person company."
