Acron Aviation launches Astra app to boost airline efficiency
The app is described as a tool for transforming how flight performance data is accessed and used by pilots and airline operators. Astra incorporates modules that focus on safety and efficiency, making use of advanced data analytics and machine learning algorithms to deliver tailored intelligence to end-users. Designed to be customisable, Astra integrates with both Acron Aviation's own Flight Data Monitoring platform and third-party systems, enabling seamless adoption across fleets.
Data-driven flight operations
Astra's safety module offers pre- and post-flight insights, prioritising safety and fostering continuous improvement for pilots and operations teams. Key features include the monitoring of fuel consumption, aircraft wear-and-tear, and performance metrics, all available through an intuitive dashboard that provides management teams with comprehensive oversight at fleet level.
Mitesh Patel, Vice President and General Manager Flight Data Intelligence at Acron Aviation, commented on the launch: "With Astra, we're closing the gap between Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and actual flight performance." Patel continued, "by leveraging Machine Learning algorithms and our database of 45 million flights, we're delivering personalised, timely, and engaging feedback directly to pilots. Astra represents a significant advancement in how airlines can monitor and optimise fuel consumption and reduce wear-and-tear. This approach not only enhances safety it also improves operational effectiveness and reduces costs."
The comprehensive information provided by Astra empowers both pilots and management. For pilots, critical data is consolidated in one application, aiming to reduce the burden of switching between tools while in the cockpit or during pre-flight preparation.
Efficiency partnership
Astra was developed through a strategic partnership between Acron Aviation and FuelVision, a company with a focus on flight efficiency and data-driven performance. Elena Escrivá de Romaní Pérez, Chief Executive Officer of FuelVision, explained: "Astra increases awareness and engagement with efficiency programs by providing pilots with individual feedback and coaching, as well as providing detailed analytics on fuel consumption patterns, identifies potential savings opportunities, and offers actionable recommendations to optimise flight operations." She continued, "FuelVision was founded by pilots, which means we do things in a fundamentally different way and our starting point is always through the lens of a pilot."
The Efficiency module in Astra enables airlines to benchmark performance, track adherence to Standard Operating Procedures, and tailor training programmes based on observed areas for improvement. Customisable parameters also make it possible to inform and adapt fleet-wide pilot training aligned to the latest performance data and trends.
Key features
Astra processes over 25,000 flights daily, ensuring that debriefs and feedback are delivered to pilots within 15 minutes of landing. Its features include a dashboard for monitoring fuel usage and wear indicators, machine learning-driven analysis of operational effectiveness, unified performance views covering safety and efficiency metrics, and the development of individualised training plans targeted at specific needs.
The app can provide pre-flight briefings to pilots with route-specific operational data, enhancing preparation and situational awareness. Following each flight, pilots receive a debrief based on rapid analysis of flight data. Comparative benchmarking allows crew members to measure performance relative to peers within their fleet, reflecting a commitment to continuous improvement and team-based oversight.
For management, Astra adds value by highlighting both strong performance and areas that require additional support or intervention. The ability to monitor adherence to company procedures and assess return on investment is designed to support both efficiency and risk management objectives.
Industry integration
Astra is compatible with Acron Aviation's Flight Data Connect platform, which processes large volumes of flight information in a matter of minutes. This integration supports broader safety and operational initiatives, including contributions to IATA's Flight Data eXchange programme.
The application is available for further demonstrations at key industry events, with Acron Aviation continuing to showcase Astra's capabilities to prospective users from the global aviation community.

AdsAdvisor launches advanced planning tool for mobile studios
AdsAdvisor has introduced a new scenario-based business modelling tool to streamline financial planning for mobile studios and offer improved revenue forecasting and cost management. The Business Modeling tool aims to assist mobile businesses in converting strategic targets, such as revenue and EBITA, into detailed, actionable plans using data-driven methods. It enables teams to create and test different user acquisition scenarios across multiple mobile platforms, including iOS, Android, Samsung, and Huawei, and visualise how varied strategies can influence financial results for any given period, whether a month, quarter, or year. Designed for mobile studios Eugene Chernysh, Chief Operating Officer at AdsAdvisor, said the purpose behind the development was to give mobile marketers clarity and a practical link between strategy and outcomes. Chernysh explained, "With mobile app businesses increasingly driven by data, we built Business Modeling to give mobile marketers a clear, practical way to connect strategy with outcomes. Releasing in H2 2025, it's the right tool at the right time - helping teams prepare for year-end performance cycles and plan confidently for the year ahead. Whether you're focused on growth, margin, or long-term efficiency, Business Modeling turns financial planning into a true growth tool - and keeps every team aligned around shared business goals." By supporting both cohort-based and streaming revenue models, the tool takes into account the entire cost structure typical for a mobile studio. This includes store commissions, VAT, user acquisition spend, creative production, royalties, and operational expenses. The platform integrates all these factors into a single model, aiming to move studios away from spreadsheets towards a consolidated, real-time view of performance and profitability. Operational integration After establishing a strategy, the tool is intended to act as a central operational hub, allowing studios to define key performance indicators, set return on investment targets, and monitor actual performance against forecasts on a real-time basis. At the end of each month, Business Modeling automatically imports updated live performance data and uses factor analysis to refresh future projections. This process is designed to help teams determine what changed and why targets were missed or achieved, and to identify the necessary adjustments to future plans. The platform includes features such as version comparisons, support for top-up web payments, seasonal multipliers, and the ability to upload historical data. These functionalities are aimed at elevating the precision of financial forecasts and providing more relevant scenario planning options. The tool is positioned to support a range of operational scenarios, from testing new game launches to optimising existing monetisation approaches, with rapid iteration informed by real-world data. Part of a broader suite Business Modeling forms a new component of the larger AdsAdvisor platform, which is designed to assist mobile businesses in scaling operations via data-focused insights, creative management systems, and user acquisition tools. Originally created by for its in-house titles, AdsAdvisor is now available more broadly to multiple industries worldwide, offering options for marketing analytics, creative asset management, and campaign automation. Additional information from the press release describes AdsAdvisor as a marketing platform intended to help mobile businesses optimise campaigns and drive growth through tools such as Marketing Analytics, Asset Lab, and UA Automation, all with a focus on streamlining workflows and campaign performance.

Norton launches AI deepfake detection for mobile in early rollout
Norton has begun offering early access to AI-powered deepfake protection within its Norton 360 mobile apps in several countries, including New Zealand. The feature, known as Norton Deepfake Protection, is available through the Genie AI Assistant as part of the Norton Genie Scam Protection suite. Initially accessible only on some Microsoft Copilot+ PCs, the technology is now available to mobile users with Android and iOS devices, enabling consumers without AI-specific hardware to benefit from the protection. Detection capabilities The tool can analyse audio and visual content, identifying signs of manipulation that could indicate the presence of AI-generated deepfakes. Its functions include the detection of AI-generated voices that might be used in fraudulent schemes and the spotting of subtle inconsistencies or deformations in the facial features of people shown in videos. If a deepfake is identified, users receive cyber safety guidance and recommendations on their next steps directly from the Genie AI Assistant. The service currently supports the analysis of English-language YouTube videos, with the ability for users to upload video links and obtain real-time feedback regarding authenticity. Support for additional languages and platforms is planned for future updates. Protecting digital trust "As AI-generated voices and faces become harder to distinguish from the real thing, trust is rapidly becoming one of the most fragile elements of our digital lives," said Leena Elias, Chief Product Officer at Gen. "The line between truth and deception is blurring, especially when malicious actors can abuse AI to create scams that replicate voices and imagery with startling realism. This is why we've made our deepfake protection accessible to people who don't have AI hardware, so they can confidently navigate and consume digital content without second-guessing what they see or hear." According to Norton, the rise in AI-generated audio and video content increases the potential for scams, particularly those involving fake voices or impersonations. By offering tools that evaluate both the sound and appearance of digital content for authenticity, the company aims to support individuals and families in verifying what they encounter online. Initial rollout and future plans The early access version of Norton Deepfake Protection is currently being made available to users in the US, UK, Australia, and New Zealand. Coverage is provided across both Android and iOS platforms, with the company stating that support for desktop devices is expected soon. Norton has indicated that deeper integration of deepfake protection capabilities will continue, with plans to extend the solution to AI PCs running on Intel chipsets later in the year. The company also intends to introduce further advanced detection features for both desktop and mobile users. The Genie AI Assistant will notify users if a piece of analysed content is determined to be an AI-generated scam, providing guidance on how to respond. For now, the feature is designed specifically for reviewing YouTube video content in English, but development is ongoing to broaden its usage across additional platforms and formats. Norton has stated its commitment to enhancing cyber safety measures to counter the rise in sophisticated online fraud that makes use of artificial intelligence, by making protections available to the general public without the need for specialised devices. ProLink liquidation: 60 workers gain new visas, jobs amid $3.8m deficit
Patel said he had secured another accredited employer to take on almost all the employees contracted to work for companies via ProLink after the liquidation was announced. ProLink was a labour recruitment business where staff were hired to work at other companies. Photo / Supplied 'I'm a migrant from Fiji. At all times, the welfare of these ProLink employees was paramount to me. You've got to have a heart.' Of the 60 employees, about 45 had new visas and new jobs, while a further 15 would soon go to a new accredited employer, he said. He hopes to be able to distribute holiday pay to all 190 laid-off workers, plus the further 60. Those 60 were contracted to Gilmours Manukau and North Shore, All Office Furniture, Moana Fisheries, Westpac Mussels, FT Logistics, Trugene Laboratories, Forty Thieves/Nut Butter Company and Paramount Merchandise, according to the latest report. Patel hired a Mandarin-speaking lawyer to assist him with the liquidation. ProLink NZ was at 349 Dominion Rd, Mt Eden. Westpac Mussels Distributors has taken on some of the workers. Photo / Alan Gibson It was established in 2018 and specialised in hiring Asian immigrants, saying it worked with Immigration New Zealand. Patel was appointed by shareholder Haiyan (Shirley) Luo of Three Kings. In December, Patel said he was particularly concerned about the workers, given the timing. He sent them letters with advice about where to turn for help. 'I've arranged a Chinese-speaking lawyer to assist them with their visas and immigration. I've also contacted Rotary at Botany Downs to organise food parcels. This is so sad, just before Christmas,' Patel said last year. In 2017, the Herald reported ProLink director Luo was sentenced to three years and nine months in prison after pleading guilty to multiple charges brought under the Immigration Act and Tax Administration Act. She used fake birth documents to bring a child here from China and three companies evaded $423,000 in taxes. A spokeswoman for Immigration New Zealand said the agency had received complaints about Prolink NZ. The latest six-monthly ProLink statement of affairs projects a $3.8 million deficit. Inland Revenue is owed approximately $2.4m alone but a full tax audit is still pending. Wages and holiday pay of $83,000 is a liability along with $1.5m owed to unsecured creditors. Patel said he was satisfied he could help so many of the employees who might have otherwise had to leave New Zealand. Anne Gibson has been the Herald's property editor for 25 years, written books and covered property extensively here and overseas.
