JMM, BJP trade barbs over Emergency days

1 2 3 Ranchi: As the nation marked the 50th year of the Emergency on Wednesday, both ruling and opposition camps in Jharkhand took potshots at each other with claims and counter-claims. While BJP held several programmes to observe the day and apprise people about the "black day", ruling JMM maintained that the nation has been going through an "undeclared emergency" since 2014. Addressing the media, JMM's central general secretary Supriyo Bhattacharya said, "We all know what happened 50 years ago when the Emergency was clamped on this day. Since then, the country has seen and risen over various odds and emerged stronger. However, what the nation needs to ponder now is how it has been thrust into an undeclared emergency since the Narendra Modi govt came to power in 2014." Citing a slew of incidents, he said, "On Nov 8, 2016, at 8 pm, economic emergency was imposed in the country in the form of demonetisation, which had a spiralling effect on the people, leading to deaths and job losses among others. Will the PM and his party answer what day should be observed for their misadventures? They said demonetisation will end terrorism, corruption and so on. Why is the country still facing terror strikes?" Bhattacharya also claimed that the Covid-19 pandemic, three farm laws and mass suspension of opposition leaders from Parliament over the years were just examples of the BJP-led NDA's attempts to choke voices of dissent. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Perdagangkan CFD Emas dengan Broker Tepercaya IC Markets Mendaftar Undo BJP's organisational secretary Karmveer Singh, however, said, "They have no right to speak. BJP only party to not benefit from our support: JeI

Kozhikode: Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) Kerala Amir P Mujeeb Rahman said even CM Pinarayi Vijayan had tasted the sweetness of JeI's support and that if there was any party which did not benefit from JeI's support, it was BJP . Speaking at a news conference at Malappuram on Wednesday, Rahman said CPM continues to accept support from JeI at the national level. The statements made by the CM and CPM state secretary M V Govindan about JeI were outright lies. Referring to the Nilambur bypoll, he alleged that CPM deliberately paved the way for communal and divisive politics to serve its own political interests. "The verdict of the bypoll is against the cheap politics of CPM to communalise Kerala. CPM is continuing false propaganda against JeI even after the bypoll," he said. "JeI was one of the first Muslim organisations to protest against the Pahalgam incident at the national level," he said. "CPM needs to realise that the seeds it is sowing are reaped not by them, but by BJP," he said.

Maharashtra Congress releases special issue of its monthly magazine defending Emergency

Interestingly, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut has also contributed to this special issue of the magazine with his article, 'Emergency in 1975 and Emergency in 2014 to 2025.' The Shidori issue includes several articles by top Congress leaders about what they called the 'prevailing undeclared Emergency' since 2014. The magazine's working editor, Duttatray Khandge, wrote the editorial defending the Emergency, saying that during this period, 20 great programmes were implemented, such as the nationalisation of banks. Maharashtra Congress president Harshvardhan Sapkal claimed that it was due to the then-prevailing circumstances in the country that Indira Gandhi had to decide to impose the Emergency. 'However, later, Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi admitted that certain administrative errors occurred during that time. But the BJP continues to raise a hue and cry about it. RSS Sarsanghchalak Balasaheb Deoras supported the Emergency and even publicly distanced the RSS from Jayaprakash Narayan's movement. BJP should clarify whether they accept the stand taken by RSS leader Balasaheb,' he asked. He further explained, 'The decision to impose Emergency in 1975 by Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was constitutional. Certain forces were attempting to create chaos in the country. Later, the Emergency was lifted, elections were held, and democratic processes were restored. During the Emergency, Indira Gandhi didn't sell the country's assets or hand over public sector enterprises to industrialists." "But for the past 11 years, there has been an undeclared Emergency in the country. Airports, ports, mines, banks, and government lands are being sold off to favoured industrialists. Even Dharavi's land has been sold,' the Congress leader alleged. He alleged that the BJP is trying to replace the national emblem with Sengol, pointing out government-issued advertisements. 'In the government ads, the national emblem is missing, replaced by the Sengol. There's no need to elaborate what Sengol symbolizes. The BJP wants to dismantle democracy and the Constitution and implement Golwalkar's 'Bunch of Thoughts',' alleged Sapkal.
