Uttarkashi (Uttarakhand) [India], August 9 (ANI): The rescue operations in flood-affected regions in Uttarakhand's Uttarkashi continue through helicopters for the third consecutive day on Saturday morning.The rescue operations are being carried out from the Matli helipad in Uttarkashi to the disaster-affected areas of Dharali and Harsil in Uttarakhand.People trapped in the Dharali-Harsil disaster are being rescued through helicopters and brought to Matli helipad, from where arrangements have also been made to ensure their safe arrival at their destination.The army camp in Harsil, which was swept away due to a cloudburst, paints a gory picture of the flash floods with its dilapidated remains. The devastating flash floods in Uttarakhand's Dharali and Harsil regions have left a trail of destruction, with survivors recounting harrowing moments of terror as they fought to save their lives.As rescue operations continue in Uttarakhand's flood-hit areas, survivors are coming forward to share their horrific experiences, describing the moment when their homes and belongings were swept away.'Our house got washed away. All our things were in it… Everything is gone. We just ran to save our lives…" said one of the victims to ANI. After being rescued, Pooja, a resident of Dehradun, who had gone to her parents' home in Dharali to celebrate Rakshabandhan, said, 'The situation there is bad… I could not tie a Rakhi to my brothers. I had to come back… A lot of people there lost their lives…"The flash floods in Uttarakhand have brought unimaginable destruction, with survivors describing the disaster as a nightmare that will stay with them forever.Three days after the devastating floods hit Dharali and Harsil, a total of 566 people were evacuated by Friday noon from the affected areas. At the same time, personnel still carried out rescue operations for 300 people who were stranded.At least five people have been reported dead, and 50 are still missing. The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) has been actively involved in the rescue operations, utilising state-of-the-art equipment, including a victim locating camera and thermal imaging camera.Dog squads have been deployed alongside rescue personnel to search for stranded individuals.The mobile network was restored in the disaster-hit Harsil valley. Road accident deaths were highest in Mandi (21), followed by Chamba (17) and Kangra (11).On the infrastructure front, two national highways — NH-305 in Kullu and NH-505 in Lahaul-Spiti — remain blocked due to landslides and road cave-ins. Kullu has 70 roads closed, Mandi 179, and Kangra 25. Mandi also suffered the largest number of power outages, with 50 DTRs down, while Kullu and Lahaul-Spiti reported localised electricity supply has been hit in large swathes of the hill state, with Mandi district alone reporting 72 schemes disrupted. 1 2 Patna: CM Nitish Kumar chaired a high-level meeting on Wednesday to review relief and rescue operations in 10 flood-affected districts. He directed officials concerned to remain fully alert and make all necessary arrangements for the affected people. At the review, conducted via videoconferencing at the Sankalp hall in CM residence, an official informed the CM that around 25 lakh people had been affected by the flood in 54 blocks of the 10 districts, as several rivers were in spate due to torrential rainfall in the past 24 hours. Seven NDRF and nine SDRF teams were engaged in relief and rescue efforts in the flood-hit areas, the official said. The CM emphasised that the administration should remain fully alert to the rising water levels in areas along the rivers. He urged that affected individuals be assisted promptly and with full sensitivity. Nitish said since coming to power in Nov 2005, his govt has been committed to assisting disaster victims. "Preparations for potential floods, droughts and other disasters are reviewed before the arrival of monsoon, and instructions given to the officials to work according to the standard operating procedures (SOP)," he said. He directed the road construction and rural works departments to ensure the restoration of roads damaged by floods. Earlier, development commissioner (DC) Pratyaya Amrit, who is also the additional chief secretary of the disaster management department, informed the CM about the relief and rescue operations in the flood-affected areas and the water levels of rivers. "Due to heavy rainfall, 10 districts along Ganga river — Bhojpur, Patna, Saran, Vaishali, Begusarai, Lakhisarai, Munger, Khagaria, Bhagalpur and Katihar — have been particularly affected. The floods have impacted around 25 lakh people across 348 panchayats in 54 blocks. Sixty motorboats and 1,233 boats are actively working," Amrit said at the meeting. The DC added so far, 52,573 polyethylene sheets and 1,800 dry ration packets have been distributed among the affected people. "Arrangements in flood relief camps have been made according to the SOP. Over 13 lakh people have been provided meals at community kitchens. Provisions for animal fodder and medical care have been arranged," he said. Amrit also said the disaster management department reviews relief and rescue operations daily. District magistrates have been instructed to prepare lists for the distribution of the gratuitous relief funds. Dhubri (Assam) [India], August 14 (ANI): An earthquake measuring 2.8 on the Richter scale struck Dhubri district in Assam in the early hours of Thursday, the National Centre for Seismology (NCS) reported. According to the NCS, the tremor occurred at 1:01 am IST, at a depth of 10 km, with its epicentre located at 26.28°N latitude and 89.87°E longitude.
