Yankees' Jasson Dominguez joins rare company, including Mickey Mantle and Eddie Murray, after superb 3-HR game
Friday night was one to remember for Jasson Dominguez.
Once dubbed the New York Yankees' top prospect, this is Dominguez's first full season, and we are now seeing why the Yankees have touted him so highly ever since he was 16 years old.
At age 22, Dominguez made history as the youngest Yankee to ever hit three home runs in a game, doing so against the Athletics in Sacramento.
However, there's quite a twist to this historic achievement: The switch-hitter actually hit home runs from both sides of the plate.
Dominguez belted his first blast of the night from the left side in the third inning, going back-to-back with Paul Goldschmidt. In the seventh, this time from the right side, he went deep for a solo shot. But to cap it all off, he hit a grand slam in the eighth, back to the left side of the box.
Dominguez joined Mickey Mantle, Eddie Murray and only 13 other players to have a three-home run game with at least one coming from each side of the plate. It was just the 20th such occurrence in MLB history, and had not been done since 2018, when Aaron Hicks did it in a Yankee uniform.
Other Yankees to accomplish the feat include Tom Tresh, Roy White and Mark Teixeira, who actually did it two other times with two other teams.
The home run from the right side was surely a good sight for Yankee fans, considering the left side is undoubtedly Dominguez's strong suit. As a lefty, he's hitting .319 with a .943 OPS, but in the right-handed batter's box, he's hitting just .128.
New York earned a 10-2 win over the Athletics, who are surprisingly hovering at .500 through 40 games. It was the Bronx Bombers' third win in a row, and they are back in action on Saturday against the A's in an effort to continue to build their lead in the AL East.

'The payroll of the Dodgers' injured pitchers ($102M) is more than the total payroll of six teams (Guardians, Rays, Pirates, Athletics, Marlins, White Sox).' To be fair, Tyler Glasnow and Blake Snell make up over half of that payroll. Glasnow is making $32.5 million while Snel makes $28.4 million. The rest is divided amongst pitchers such as Kirby Yates, Evan Phillips, and Roki Sasaki, to name a few. Although the Dodgers' rotation and bullpen are riddled with injuries, the club is still managing to remain on top of the NL West. Los Angeles is two games ahead of the second-placed San Diego Padres through 55 games played. Advertisement Glasnow and Snell are the two biggest losses on the Dodgers' rotation right now. But the Dodgers have found success with a rotation of Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Dustin May, Tony Gonsolin, Landon Knack, and Clayton Kershaw. It's not clear when Glasnow or Snell will return, as the Dodgers are being cautious with both of their injuries. However, the team has a solid rotation and bullpen to make do without them. Additionally, at some point this season, Los Angeles could receive a massive boost to its rotation, as superstar Shohei Ohtani has been working back as a pitcher. He'll eventually take the mound again, giving L.A. yet another star on the mound.

It was not supposed to be this way for the Seattle Mariners. On paper, their starting rotation was one of, if not the best, in MLB. Now, just over the first quarter mark for the 2025 season, three members of that rotation have spent time on the injured list, with Bryce Miller the latest to join those ranks. So far, it has not done much to hurt the team's overall performance. They enter Saturday with a 24-19 record, leading the American League West by one game over the Houston Astros. Advertisement Despite the injuries, it has been a strong start to the year for the Mariners, and the latest weekly power rankings from ESPN have the team ninth in MLB, staying put from where they were in last week's rankings. "A Mariners team that enjoyed a remarkable run of health from its starting pitchers last year placed another one of their starters on the injured list Wednesday," writes Alden Gonzalez of ESPN, "when Bryce Miller was diagnosed with a bout of elbow inflammation, joining George Kirby and Logan Gilbert on the shelf. The news came on the heels of a recent four-game losing streak -- which followed an 8-2 stretch.
