85 Spanish Cities Protest in Solidarity with Gaza

By Ahmad El-Assasy
Tens of thousands of demonstrators marched across 85 cities in Spain this weekend to demand an end to the war in Gaza, denounce what they described as Israel's genocidal actions, and call for a permanent ceasefire and lasting peace in Palestine.
The nationwide protests were organized by the "Stop the War" movement, a coalition of over 100 associations, urging the international community to take action and halt arms sales to Israel.
In Madrid, dozens gathered outside the Reina Sofía Museum, holding placards and artwork reminiscent of Picasso's 'Guernica,' along with peace symbols and Palestinian flags. Protesters condemned the ongoing killings of civilians, accusing Israel of violating ceasefire agreements and escalating violence in recent days.
'Gaza is not for sale, Gaza belongs to the people,' declared one speaker, during a demonstration held under the slogan:
'For a Just Peace – Free Palestine – Permanent Ceasefire. No to Terrorism, No to Genocide.'
Participants demanded an end to the bombardment of Gaza, as Palestinian authorities report over 50,000 Palestinians killed since Israel's military campaign began.
The protests also drew figures from Spain's cultural scene, who paid tribute to Oscar-winning Palestinian filmmaker recently detained in the West Bank.
Spanish director Fernando Palomo said:
'Winning an Oscar today is a life-threatening achievement. We raise our voices for the detained filmmaker and for every oppressed Palestinian.'
