Indian-Origin Medical Worker Arrested In US For Sexually Exploiting Children
An Indian origin man has been arrested in the United States' Phoenix over suspicion of sexually abusing minors. The police action against 31-year-old Jaydeep Patel, a former behavioural health technician at Phoenix Children's Hospital, came after more than 1,200 photos and videos of child porn were found on his electronic devices, according to local media reports.
Patel was arrested on July 17 and charged with nine counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, with each count being a class two felony, an AZCentral report said. Such felonies reportedly carry a prison sentence of three to 12 and a half years for first-time offenders who are convicted.
The case came to light in 2024, after police received a series of tips online regarding a social media profile that possessed Child Sexual Abuse Materials (CSAM). The tips reportedly came from an Internet Service Provider that is "known for instant messaging on mobile profiles to include chat exchanges and the sharing of images and videos," Fox 10 reported.
During the probe, police reportedly served a search warrant at Patel's home and on multiple social media accounts tied to his cellphone number. They found several transcripts of explicit messages that the accused allegedly sent, the contents of which were graphic. In some of the chat logs, the accused "openly [requested] child sexual abuse materials for his personal sexual gratification," court documents showed.
Police also found explicit images and videos of minors, in some of which Patel's home or body was also allegedly visible. In nine video files recovered from his social media account, young, grade-school-aged girls were seen either exposing themselves or engaging in sexual conduct, according to documents.
On July 21, Phoenix Children's Hospital issued a statement regarding the incident, claiming Patel had cleared all the standard background checks at the time of hiring.
"The safety of our patients and their families is our top priority. In accordance with our policies, we conduct thorough background checks during the pre-employment screening process and at regular intervals for current employees. This individual is no longer employed with us, and we are in full cooperation with law enforcement officials," the statement read.
A judge has reportedly set a cash-only appearance bond of $100,000 for Patel. Should he make bond, he would be subjected to a number of restrictions, including electronic monitoring, curfew restrictions, and a no-exceptions ban on contacting minors.
The next hearing in his case is scheduled for July 28.

Has Yemen cancelled Nimisha Priya's death sentence? Here's what we know
No official statement has been issued confirming the overturning of the death sentence of Nimisha Priya, a nurse from Kerala convicted of murder in Yemen, government sources said on Tuesday. This comes after a report by news agency ANI claimed that Priya's execution had been overturned and completely cancelled, citing the office of 'Grand Mufti' Kanhapuram AP Abubakker Musliyar. According to the report, the Grand Mufti's office made the statement on July 28, following a high-level meeting in the Yemeni capital, Sanaa. Her execution had previously been suspended after diplomatic efforts by the Indian government and an appeal by the Grand Mufti. Nimisha's execution, originally scheduled for July 16, was temporarily halted just a day earlier after Musliyar urged Yemeni authorities to reconsider. Execution delayed after diplomatic efforts The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) had been actively engaged in efforts to save Nimisha. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that a lawyer had been appointed to assist her family and that the government had been exploring options for clemency under Sharia law. These efforts gained urgency after Yemen's Supreme Judicial Council upheld her death sentence in November 2023. The latest development represents a major breakthrough in the campaign to secure her release. Nimisha was convicted in the killing of her business partner, Yemeni national Talal Abdo Mahdi, in 2017. Musliyar reportedly engaged in extensive talks with Yemeni religious authorities, calling for the release of the 37-year-old nurse. His last-minute intervention, supported by a prominent Yemeni Sufi scholar, is believed to have been instrumental in stopping her execution. Who is Nimisha Priya? Nimisha Priya, 37, is a trained nurse from Kerala who worked in private hospitals across Yemen for several years. In 2014, her husband and young daughter returned to India due to financial hardship. That same year, Yemen's civil war began, and the country suspended the issue of new visas, making it impossible for her family to return. Setting up a clinic in Sanaa In 2015, Nimisha established a clinic in Sanaa with the assistance of Talal Abdo Mahdi, a Yemeni citizen. Since Yemeni law prohibits foreign nationals from owning clinics, Mahdi was made a legal partner. However, during a visit to Kerala, Mahdi allegedly stole a wedding photograph of Nimisha and used it to falsely claim they were married. According to her mother's statement, Mahdi then began harassing her. Allegations of abuse and fraud Mahdi reportedly forged clinic ownership documents and took control of Nimisha's finances. He is also accused of seizing her passport, drugging her, threatening her with a firearm, and physically abusing her over a prolonged period. When she approached local police, Nimisha was instead arrested and jailed for six days. Upon her release, the abuse reportedly escalated. In July 2017, Nimisha sought help from a jail warden. Following his advice, she attempted to sedate Mahdi in order to retrieve her passport and escape the country. The first attempt failed, but during the second, Mahdi — reportedly a drug user — died from an overdose. Conviction and sentencing In June 2018, Nimisha was convicted of Mahdi's murder and sentenced to death. Her appeal was rejected in 2023. Her execution was scheduled for July 2025 before India's diplomatic and religious intervention led to its postponement.

‘His Blood Not For Sale In...': Tallal's Brother On Claims Of Nimisha Priya's Pardon
Last Updated: Abdul Fattah questioned the legitimacy of the claims made on behalf of the Grand Mufti The family of Yemeni businessman Tallal Abdo Mahdi has reacted to the recent claims that Indian nurse Nimisha Priya's death sentence has been overturned, calling it a baseless and unauthorised attempt to manipulate public sentiment. In a rebuttal to a statement made by the office of Musaliyar, the Grand Mufti of India, Tallal's brother, Abdul Fattah Mahdi, rejected any suggestion that a pardon had been granted. 'Certain preachers who claim to speak in the name of religion step forward to create a false sense of heroism for themselves — at our expense," Abdul Fattah said. Referring to ongoing reports of negotiations, he added, 'Tallal's blood will not become merchandise in a negotiation bazaar." Abdul Fattah questioned the legitimacy of the claims made on behalf of the Grand Mufti, asking pointedly, 'Who authorised them, when, and on what basis?" He reiterated that under Yemeni law, a death sentence can only be reversed if the victim's family accepts blood money — a decision his family has not yet made. 'If any decision is to be made, we are the ones who will make it," he stated firmly. Condemning attempts to distort the gravity of the crime, he reminded the public of the brutal nature of the act: 'At the expense of a pure body that was unjustly slaughtered, mutilated, torn apart, and thrown into a water tank as if it were nothing!" Nimisha Priya, a nurse from Kerala, was convicted in 2020 for the murder of Talal Abdo Mahdi in 2017. As per Yemeni Shariah law, the family of the victim holds the authority to decide on pardoning the convict in exchange for blood money. Despite rising speculation, the Mahdi family insists no such decision has been taken and continues to demand full enforcement of the qisas verdict. view comments First Published: July 29, 2025, 12:05 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Pahalgam attack victim's father hails action on terrorists
As the Indian forces killed three terrorists including the alleged mastermind behind Pahalgam terror attack, Rajesh Narwal, father of Lt Vinay Narwal, who was killed in the incident in April, hailed the action. As many as 26 persons — mostly tourists — were shot dead by terrorists at Baisaran meadows in Pahalgam. Speaking with reporters at his residence, Narwal thanked the Indian Army 'and everyone who risked their lives to eliminate those terrorists.' 'The forces carried out the operation so bravely given the terrain and other conditions, for which they should be honoured. I got to know that one of those killed was the mastermind of the Pahalgam attack,' he said. 'I have said this earlier that the Pakistani government and their army sponsored the brutal attack on the tourists in Kashmir. I demand that all the terrorists should be eliminated at the earliest,' he added. In a major breakthrough, the Army's elite para commandos on Monday gunned down the alleged mastermind of the Pahalgam terror attack along with two of his associates in an encounter in a forest area on the outskirts of Srinagar in Kashmir. Officials said Sulieman alias Asif, who is believed to be the mastermind of the April 22 attack, was killed after the security forces launched a surprise action, codenamed 'Operation Mahadev', following a technical signal indicating the use of a satellite phone that was used by the perpetrators of the Pahalgam attack. The other terrorists killed in the action have been identified as Jibran — who was allegedly involved in the Sonamarg Tunnel attack last year — and Hamza Afghani. As many as 26 persons — mostly tourists — were shot dead by terrorists at Baisaran meadows in Pahalgam, which prompted the armed forces to launch Operation Sindoor on May 7 against the terror infrastructure in Pakistan.
