Archbishop of York condemns 'desecration' of Leyland church
The Archbishop of York has described vandalism at a Lancashire church as a "desecration". Sexually graphic images and expletives were sprayed at St James Church in Leyland, near Preston, on Good Friday."God is a lie" was scrawled on the church's exterior and obscene graffiti was daubed over nearly 40 gravestones.Archbishop Stephen Cottrell said he was "holding [the church] in his prayers".
In his letter to the church, the Archbishop said: "For this precious holy ground to be so appallingly desecrated is deeply shocking."Easter should be a time of celebration and joy. It saddens me greatly that this Easter your own celebrations may feel a little muted."I hope it is a small comfort to know that, alongside many others, I am holding you and your church in my prayers this Easter."Vicar Marc Wolverson said the attack did not deter the congregation, who carried on with their Good Friday service before hosting a wedding on the Saturday.He said the local community rallied round to help them remove the graffiti and the building and grounds had also been rededicated to the worship of God."My first reaction was heartbreak at the actions of these individuals who perpetrated this crime. I feel very sorry for them," he said."It's the worst thing I've had to deal with as a vicar."But, in the days since, the way we have seen the people of Leyland rally round to help has been so uplifting."Lancashire Police said the "disgraceful act of vandalism" was "being treated as a hate crime".The force said no arrests had been made, but investigations were continuing.

Onlookers couldn't hide their amusement at the officers' inability to break down the front door. One chuckling onlooker teased them, taunting: "Bit Harder!" "Go on, hit it!" They then mocked the fumbling officers with a killer line: "Call yourself a police force? "There's no force in ya!" Two officers can be seen repeatedly attempting to barge down the door. Even while using a handheld ram and a hooligan bar they are unable able to enter the house. Two other visible cops can be seen standing idly by as their colleagues floundered at the house's entrance. The door does appear to have suffered some damage, as there is a significant dent is visible on its left side, as well as fractures to its top, glass window. Yet it remained upright and intact. Many seeing the social media video online were quick to mock the officers' fruitless efforts. One man commented: "They couldn't break into an Easter egg." Another said they, "Couldn't open an advent calendar door." One comment even appears onscreen at the end of the video saying: "Rumour has it they're still trying." Some people saw a darker side to the video, believing it showed a decline in British policing standards. "Police are losing respect, it's what it's come to. So sad," commented one viewer. A different TikTok user said: "It's a shame because I have respect for the police. "But currently the state of this country is a joke. In a twist, one user, claiming to be a former Method of Entry instructor, even seemed to spot why the police were having such little success. He said: "Use the other end of hooligan bar i.e. the wedge knocked into the door gap. "Then pull on the bar and the door (usually) opens."

It first declared an incident after the cyber attack on April 22 and customers were unable to use contactless payments, gift cards or scan their loyalty card over the Easter weekend. Some M&S stores were also left with empty shelves as the chain grappled with the fallout of the attack. Online orders were paused on April 25 and were resumed on Tuesday (June 10). The retail giant said shoppers are now able to buy a selection of its best-selling fashion ranges and new products for home delivery to England, Scotland and Wales. In a statement published on social media, M&S managing director of clothing, home and beauty John Lyttle said: "More of our fashion, home and beauty products will be added every day, and we will resume deliveries to Northern Ireland and Click and Collect in the coming weeks. "Thank you sincerely for your support and for shopping with us." In May, M&S boss Stuart Machin warned investors that it is facing a £300m hit to trading profits as a result of the cyber attack. Article continues below It is believed that the group fell victim to the same hackers, known as Scattered Spider, who were linked to similar attacks on Co-op and Harrods towards the end of April. M&S confirmed on May 13 that some customer data was stolen in the cyber which could include names, date of birth, phone numbers, home addresses, email addresses, household information and online order histories. It added that any card information taken would not be useable as it does not hold full card payment details on its systems. Chief executive Stuart Machin blamed "human error" for the attack and refused to comment on whether the retailer had paid a ransom to the hackers. It is believed that the hackers managed to gain entry through a third party who had access to its systems. Owner of 'pocket bully' which mauled boy, five, blames child for attack
A five-year-old boy who was left in hospital after being attacked by a 'pocket bully' has been told it was his fault. Four-year-old Antonio Quinn needed a three-hour operation to have his face stitched back together after the vicious attack left him covered in blood. But the dog's owner has now blamed the child for the incident, while insisting his 'teddy bear' pet, named Harry, was just defending his home. Antonio's mother Amanda Holmes, 34, said her son was lucky to be alive, but dog owner Aaron Eccles said the child shouldn't have come into his home and that the attack was a 'genuine mistake'. Mr Eccles said that dogs don't differentiate between an adult and child when responding to who they think is a burglar, adding that Harry had even given Antonio a 'warning bite'. Harry was later seized along with a Staffordshire bull terrier by 20 officers who arrived at the property in Oswaldthwistle, Lancashire. Mr Eccles accused police of antagonising his dog by using pepper spray on him, MailOnline reports. The dog owner said he declined an offer from officers to have his pets euthanised and was now awaiting the results of an assessment which will determine whether they are safe to be returned home. Antonio was reportedly playing outside with Mr Eccles' partner's son and was going in to get a drink when he was attacked by the dog. He was wounded on the chin, cheeks and thigh before a neighbour's intervention stopped the incident from further escalating. The child was then hurried to Royal Manchester Children's Hospital for treatment. Ms Holmes said the scene was 'like something out of a horror film', but that, despite enduring a lot of pain, Antonio was doing well. A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said: 'We were called at shortly after 1.30pm on May 26 following reports that a child had been bitten by a dog on Thwaites Road, Oswaldtwistle. 'The child, a four-year-old boy, was taken to hospital with injuries to his leg and face. Thankfully, those injuries are not life threatening. 'Two dogs have been seized by police – a Staffordshire Bull Terrier type and a Pocket Bully Type and the dog owner has been identified and will be spoken to in due course.
