Perak KPDN seizes 225 LPG cylinders, two lorries worth over RM450,000

IPOH: Enforcement officers from the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) seized 225 LPG cylinders and two lorries worth about RM466,895 in raids at Zarib Industrial Park and Tanjung Malim yesterday (July 2).
Perak KPDN director Datuk Kamalludin Ismail said 14 LPG cylinders with a 50-kilogramme (kg) capacity, 171 cylinders of 14 kg and 40 cylinders of 12 kg were confiscated in the Ops Gasak raids.
According to Kamalludin, the LPG cylinders were stored at two premises without valid permits from the Controller of Supplies.
"In the first raid at about 11.30am in Tanjung Malim, an enforcement team from the Tapah KPDN branch found a property being used as an LPG storage facility without the required authorisation to store controlled items.
"The second raid at 1pm at a food processing factory in Zarib Industrial Park revealed that LPG was being used without a valid licence or permit," he said in a statement today (July 3).
Kamalludin said two men, aged 41 and 49, as well as a 28-year-old woman, were arrested during the raids to assist with the investigation.
He said both cases are being investigated under the Control of Supplies Act 1961 and the Control of Supplies Regulations 1974. — BERNAMA

Law to regulate e-commerce likely

Published on: Sunday, August 10, 2025 Published on: Sun, Aug 10, 2025 By: Jonathan Nicholas Text Size: Fuziah said the Ministry's study showed the need for a more comprehensive legal framework to ensure better governance of e-commerce at the national level. Kota Kinabalu: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) is weighing a new legislation to regulate e-commerce, after finding sellers' profit margins and commissions on popular online shopping platforms are significantly reduced, particularly during heavily promoted monthly sales events. Deputy Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Senator Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh said the review was essential to keep laws relevant in a fast-changing digital marketplace. Advertisement 'While e-commerce is now part of everyday life for Malaysians and a driver of our digital economy, rapid growth has also brought risks such as fraud, unsafe products, misleading advertisements and cross-border enforcement limitations,' she told a press conference, Saturday. The Ministry convened a stakeholder engagement session at a hotel here involving industry representatives, digital platforms, trader associations, consumer protection groups, legal experts and academics to examine the current regulatory gaps. It was the second such consultation held as part of a broader review. Fuziah said the Ministry's study showed the need for a more comprehensive legal framework to ensure better governance of e-commerce at the national level. Advertisement 'Persistent complaints between 2023 and 2024 included the sale of counterfeit goods, the use of false identities by sellers, misleading advertising, and difficulties in dealing with overseas suppliers, particularly over returns and refunds. 'Many small traders also reported that steep platform-imposed discounts during special sales campaigns had eroded their profit margins to unsustainable levels,' she said. The proposed legislation will rest on three pillars: clearer industry responsibilities, more effective enforcement, and stronger protections for both consumers and small businesses. 'We want an e-commerce ecosystem that is not only innovative, but also safe, transparent and ethical,' she added. The consultation formed part of the Regulatory Impact Assessment process outlined by the Malaysia Productivity Corporation, which requires public input to shape any Regulatory Impact Statement with the Ministry expected to finalise a draft bill soon. Separately, on Friday (Aug 8) Fuziah visited STF Agriculture Sdn Bhd in Tamparuli, to monitor enforcement following the withdrawal of the government's egg subsidy. The move was aimed at preventing profiteering under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011. 'KPDN will continue to step up monitoring to ensure egg prices remain reasonable, sufficient supply, and no one takes advantage to reap excessive profits,' she said, adding that action would be taken against violators. Perak KPDN seizes RM132k in diesel and assets in Kampung Kepayang raid

IPOH: The Perak branch of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) seized 1,220 litres of subsidised diesel and assets worth RM132,446.80 in a raid on a Kampung Kepayang workshop. The operation, conducted at 6.10 pm yesterday, led to the arrest of a 21-year-old local man suspected of storing controlled items without permits. Datuk Kamalludin Ismail, the state director, revealed that the syndicate bought diesel at RM1.80 per litre from dishonest lorry drivers before selling it illegally at RM2.40 per litre. Authorities also confiscated two lorries, an Intermediate Bulk Container (IBC) tank, and a pump during the raid. The case is being investigated under the Control of Supplies Act 1961 for unauthorised possession of controlled goods. Kamalludin warned that KPDN would take firm action against subsidy leakage through its Kita Gempur initiative. The public can report misuse of subsidised goods via WhatsApp (019-848 8000), e-aduan@ or the Ez ADU KPDN app. - Bernama

Another Singapore vehicle caught pumping RON95 in Johor

DAYS after a Singapore-registered car was spotted refuelling with subsidised RON95 petrol in Iskandar Puteri, another similar case has emerged, this time along the Senai-Desaru Expressway. Photos of the vehicle went viral on Friday (Aug 8), prompting Johor Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) director Lilis Saslinda Pornomo to confirm an investigation is underway. She criticised the lack of vigilance, noting the pump was 'right in front of the payment counter'. Authorities will review CCTV footage and vow to make no compromise on negligence. The Johor branch of the KPDN is still investigating another viral case involving a Singapore-registered luxury vehicle owner seen filling subsidised RON95 petrol into a plastic container at a station in Iskandar Puteri. Enforcement officers inspected the site, reviewed CCTV footage, obtained the purchase receipt, and met the station owner, who was issued a stern warning. A case was opened under the Control of Supplies Act 1961, which carries heavy fines and possible jail terms for offenders, with higher penalties for repeat offences. KPDN urged the public to report any misuse of controlled goods and subsidies. — Aug 9, 2025
