on being "overlooked" for the Karnataka chief minister's post in 1999, saying there was "nothing wrong" in a senior leader expressing his emotions.
He, however, cautioned that one should not express his/her sentiments in public.
"What is wrong if Mallikarjun Kharge expresses his feelings? He is a senior leader who has worked tirelessly for the Congress. He only conveyed his emotions. There is absolutely nothing wrong in that," Shivakumar told reporters in Bengaluru, according to news agency PTI.
"One must express his/her feelings, but not in public," the Congress leader, who heads the party's Karnataka unit, added.
Shivakumar's remarks came amid growing buzz in political circles triggered by Kharge's reflection, as well as recent statements from Congress leaders like Jagalur MLA B Devendrappa and social welfare minister HC Mahadevappa, who said Kharge had "all the qualities" to occupy any constitutional post, and that the party would "take a call when the time comes."
Meanwhile, Kharge's remarks, made on Sunday, have sparked a fresh debate within the grand old party on leadership and the long-standing demand for a Dalit chief minister in the southern state.
Recalling his role in the 1999 assembly elections, Kharge said, "I tried to bring the party to power. We formed the government and SM Krishna became the chief minister. He had come as Karnataka Congress president only four months ahead of the polls...all my service was washed down the river. I feel that – I toiled for five years, but the person who came four months ago was made the CM."
He added, "What I'm trying to say is, we face difficulty, but we must continue to work without greediness in mind. If you are greedy, you won't get anything. Also you won't be able to do what's in your mind..... passing through all these things, from being a block president, I have now become Congress president today. I did not go behind the posts."

CM unveils plan to relocate slum dwellers to 50K unused flats
New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday said her government has prepared a plan to relocate slum dwellers to 50,000 flats constructed years ago but never allotted to anyone. She inspected government flats built for economically weaker sections in Sultanpuri, North West Delhi, around 2011. 'We have planned to relocate slum dwellers within a two-kilometre periphery of thousands of such old flats after properly repairing them and providing all the facilities,' she told reporters. Gupta criticised previous Delhi governments for failing to allot the 50,000 flats constructed over the years, leading to their current dilapidated condition. 'Neither Congress nor AAP gave these flats to poor people. But now our government will ensure these flats are allotted to slum dwellers after repair. If needed, we will demolish old flats if they cannot be repaired and provide new houses to them,' she said. Gupta said that no slums will be demolished in Delhi and asserted that her government would not hesitate to change policy or approach the courts to protect the rights of slum dwellers. She has also instructed various government departments not to demolish slums unless residents are first provided with alternative housing. 'This is the first government which is working in a direction to provide homes to every slum dweller,' she said while addressing students and faculty at the 39th Foundation and Orientation Day of Delhi University's Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies. Gupta also announced the addition of 500 new seats at the college, aimed at expanding access to quality higher education. Congratulating the incoming batch, Gupta said, 'I couldn't come to Sukhdev College earlier because only students with 98 per cent, 100 per cent marks could come here. I had to become chief minister to come to this college.'

PCB issues blanket ban on future participation in WCL
Lahore, Aug 3 (PTI) The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Sunday announced a blanket ban on its players' participation in future editions of the World Championship of Legends (WCL), accusing the tournament organisers of being 'biased" and lacking sporting integrity. The decision follows a sequence of events in which the Indian team forfeited both their group-stage clash and semifinal against Pakistan, citing the country's stand against bilateral sporting ties with the neighbouring country after the gruesome Pahalagam terror attack. 'The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announces that it is issuing a blanket ban from future participation in the World Championship of Legends (WCL)," the PCB said in a statement after its board of governors meeting held virtually under the chairmanship of Mohsin Naqvi. The PCB also took strong exception to the WCL's decision to award points to India despite the forfeiture, calling it 'tainted with hypocrisy and bias." India and Pakistan had been slated to meet in the group stage, but the Indian side — featuring Shikhar Dhawan, Yuvraj Singh, Irfan Pathan, Suresh Raina, and Harbhajan Singh — refused to play, citing national sentiment following the terror attack and India's subsequent 'Operation Sindoor'. With India also pulling out of the semifinal, Pakistan advanced directly to the final. 'The PCB reviewed with considerable disappointment WCL's appalling conduct of awarding points to a willfully forfeiting team, and the content of the press releases of the WCL announcing the cancellation of the scheduled India vs. Pakistan legends matches, which were tainted with hypocrisy and bias." Criticising the tournament's handling of the situation, the PCB said, 'The cancellation was not based on cricketing merit but on appeasing a specific nationalistic narrative. This sends an unacceptable message to the international sporting community." The board further stated that it could not allow its players to participate in events where 'the spirit of the game is overshadowed by skewed politics that undermine the very essence of sportsmanship and the gentleman's game." The WCL, which is co-owned by Bollywood actor Ajay Devgn, had earlier issued an apology for 'hurting the feelings of many and stirring emotions" following the cancellation of the group stage match. 'We sincerely apologise again for hurting the sentiments and hope people will understand that all we ever wanted was to bring a few happy moments to the fans," the WCL had said. The PCB, however, termed the apology 'farcical," accusing the organisers of caving to 'a specific nationalistic narrative." 'The WCL's apology for 'hurting the sentiments", whilst being farcical, inadvertently acknowledges that the cancellation was not based on cricketing merit, but rather on succumbing to a specific nationalistic narrative," the PCB said. 'This bias, masquerading as sensitivity, sends an unacceptable message to the international sporting community." PCB said it had no choice but to implement the ban. 'In light of this unfortunate development, which underscores a clear and intolerable pattern of external influence and a disregard for the principles of sporting neutrality, the Pakistan Cricket Board is compelled to take a firm stance. 'The PCB can no longer condone participation in an event where the fundamental principles of fair play and unbiased administration are compromised by external pressures," it added. Sources in the know of things have indicated that WCL's Indian promoters were already considering dropping the Pakistan team from future editions of the tournament.
