From the SoundCloud Vault: MENA Rap's Lost Files
From Abyusif to Cheb Terro, we curated a list of essential tracks by some of the region's most lauded rappers that remain exclusively on SoundCloud.
In its early days, Soundcloud became a vital hub for regional hip-hop, a digital back alley where artists experimented freely, built a cult following, and laid the groundwork for the vibrant rap scene we see today. Before streaming giants dominated, it was the raw, unfiltered space where many rappers first dropped their tracks, often leaving behind a fascinating, and sometimes forgotten, archive.
The SceneNoise team dug into that clout era of SoundCloud, compiling a list of essential cuts by some of the region's biggest rappers and some mystery ones, that remain exclusively on the platform, offering a glimpse into the formative years of a diverse and ever-evolving sound.

Palestinian Collective BLTNM to Host Showcase in Amman Sep 19th

Brought by events giant Al Wahida, the show will feature a series of electrifying live performances from BLTNM's roster. Aug 09, 2025 Ramallah-based hip-hop collective and independent record label BLTNM is set to host a showcase in Amman, Jordan, on September 19th. Brought by events giant Al Wahida, the show will feature a series of electrifying live performances from BLTNM's roster, including the long-time collaborators Shabjdeed and Al Nather, alongside Daboor, Fawzi, Smokaholic and Touch. Since its inception, BLTNM has quickly become one of the most respected collectives in the region's hip-hop scene, for the way they managed to push trap music into a new, uncharted territory, presenting an honest vision of the young Palestinian living experience under the occupation. They carved out a distinctive sound that is political and revolutionary in a natural, unforced way, and considerably innovative. The show will take place at the Madboun venue in Amman. Tickets are now available via the tzkrti website.

Egypt's Rap Roots: Shahyn

Egypt's Rap Roots: Shahyn Long before viral hits and streaming platforms, Egyptian rapper Shahyn was making noise throughout the Bluetooth era, trading tracks through hard drives and Facebook links. Active since 2006, when the rap scene in Egypt was still considered subcultural, it's hard to overstate Shahyn's impact on the rap scene - not only as a skilled lyricist, but as a community builder. As a teenager in Alexandria, drawn in by old-school hip-hop influences like Tupac, Shahyn joined Y‑Crew Family (one of the city's foundational rap collectives) alongside the likes of Omar Boflot and Yassin Zahran. The crew's grassroots ethos defined his early years: rough demos, cultural venue gigs, and a lyrical style sharpened by satire, street smarts, and an instinct for storytelling. As the digital landscape evolved, so too did the scene. SoundCloud opened doors, YouTube offered visibility, streaming platforms emerged, and Egyptian rap expanded. Yet through all of these changes, Shahyn remained a constant force in the rap game, growing his loyal following over the years. Today, he holds a rare position in Egypt's rap timeline. He belongs to the generation that built the scene from scratch, but his music still lands with younger audiences navigating a very different landscape. That continuity matters, because while most of today's artists are more visible than ever, many still work within structures Shahyn and his peers helped create. Shahyn's story reminds us that Egypt's rap scene didn't appear fully formed. It was passed through USB ports and hard drives, burned onto discs, and played on Nokia speakers. Egypt's Rap Roots is SceneNoise's new series diving into the evolution of Egypt's most popular alternative music scene, tracing the timeline through the experiences of pioneering artists.

Shabjdeed & Al Nather Reclaim the Crown on New Track ‘MLKRAP'

BLTNM heavyweights Shabjdeed and Al Nather reunite for 'MLKRAP,' a brutal drill track with a glitched-out visual twist. Jun 09, 2025 Palestinian rapper Shabjdeed just dropped a sonic uppercut. Titled 'MLKRAP', and produced by longtime collaborator Al Nather, the track marks a brash, unfiltered return to BLTNM's signature sound: raw, politically defiant, and uncompromising in energy. Released via BLTNM Records, the track came with a video game-inspired visual designed by Legbone, known for his dystopian digital aesthetic. Backed by Al Nather's drill beat, Shabjdeed delivers a fiery monologue that blends street poetry, biting social commentary, and a kind of dark humour. 'ملك لفلو انا ملك الراب' ('My flow is royal, I'm the king of rap'), Shabjdeed growls, delivering the line like a threat and a prophecy. The track moves between personal stakes and national rage, with bars that refuse to be softened. In the music video, Legbone's 3D animation plunges Shabjdeed into a glitchy, game-like world. With digital avatars, collapsing architecture, and surreal symbolism, the video echoes the track's themes of resistance through chaos.
