Corrie's Debbie makes decision as dementia diagnosis officially confirmed
Debbie sought medical advice after noticing some worrying symptoms. She was becoming forgetful, misplacing her purse, forgetting appointments and making mistakes at work.
Added to this she was experiencing mood swings and also suffered blackouts, one of which ended in a fall.
The doctor explained the blackout could have been a TIA or mini-stroke and sent her for some more tests, including to a memory clinic where she would be assessed.
Debbie was determined to keep this to herself until things were confirmed. Sue Devaney explained the reasons for this.
'I think Debbie is in denial and wants to pretend everything is alright until it's not,' she stated. 'She's a protector of her family, even though she doesn't have children. She doesn't want to worry them. It's like her world is being exploded. Also, people will treat you differently.
'She wants people to see her as the Debbie they know, the one who is in control and running a business. She doesn't want them to see her as someone else.'

Her brother Carl (Jonathan Howard) found a letter from the neurologist in her bag and Debbie was forced to tell him what was going on, so at least she has the support of one member of her family as she goes to the appointment at the hospital. She makes Carl promise he won't tell another soul – though he doesn't believe this is the right approach.
'He thinks it's something that should be shared and she should include her family in it,' actor Jonathan Howard explained. 'Which is a little bit hypocritical because I'm sure he's got secrets he doesn't want to share with his family.
'With his sister, I think he struggles with just keeping that to himself and not being able to share it with anyone else, not having a support system around for his sister. Knowing that things are going to change for Debbie, the quicker her family knows about it the quicker they can support her and come together and help her through this.'
At the appointment the neurologist confirms the diagnosis. Debbie has vascular dementia, but she's told that as long as she maintains a healthy lifestyle she can carry on as normal for now.

This is a story about family, about community, but ultimately this is a story about love, and how love can provide light, even through the darkest of times.'

For Debbie, the reaction on hearing the diagnosis is that she's not ready to share it with anyone else until she's had the chance to come to terms with it herself, and she makes it clear to Carl that she doesn't want him telling anyone. She's further shaken when she meets a woman with dementia outside the hospital and it's like she's been given a glimpse of her possible future. More Trending
Meanwhile, Ronnie (Vinta Morgan) is excitedly planning a future for him and Debbie and he puts in an offer for number 6.
He's heartbroken when Debbie calls with his things and tells him he's done nothing wrong, but her feelings have changed.
Will Carl persuade his sister to be honest with Ronnie about what's going on? Or will she insist on handling everything herself and cutting off the man she truly loves?

Netanyahu's worrying remarks come on the same day that at least 26 Palestinians were killed while seeking aid in Gaza, hospitals and witnesses said. Today, families of Israeli hostages also called for a general strike to protest against plans to expand military operations in the territory. Hospital officials said they received bodies from areas where Palestinians were seeking aid, either along food convoy routes or near privately run aid distribution points across Gaza. The dead include 10 who were killed while waiting for aid trucks close to the newly built Morag corridor, which separates the southern cities of Rafah and Khan Younis, said Nasser hospital. A further six people were killed while waiting for aid in northern Gaza near the Zikim crossing. In central Gaza, witnesses said they first heard warning shots before the fire was aimed toward crowds of aid seekers trying to reach a food distribution site. Israel's air and ground offensive has displaced most of the population and pushed the territory into a famine. Two more Palestinian children died of malnutrition-related causes on Saturday, bringing the death toll among children in Gaza to 100 since the war began. A total of 117 adults have died of malnutrition-related causes since late June, when the ministry started to count this age category, it said. The toll from hunger is not included in the ministry's death toll of 61,400 Palestinians in the war. As the war prepares to enter its third year in October, more and more people are speaking out about the brutality in Gaza. Nerve-racking moment politician suffers a stroke during live TV interview

Minister for Public Investments Darko Glišićfell was a guest on Televizija Pink earlier this week when he began to stutter and act strangely. Worried, the two television presenters cut the broadcast short and called for an ambulance, which rushed him to the hospital in Belgrade. Glišićfell reportedly had surgery and is in serious condition, having been put on a ventilator briefly. The politician is close to President Alexander Vučić, who shared a photo of the pair in hospital on Instagram, captioned 'Courage, wait! There is no surrender.' Health Minister Zlatibor Loncar said in a statement: 'He fell ill during the TV show and was taken to the emergency room unconscious. What is known now is that he is in serious condition.' Strokes can affect anyone, old and young, and the symptoms can vary from person to person, but usually, they are very sudden. As different parts of your brain control different parts of your body, your symptoms will depend on the part of your brain affected and the extent of the damage. They occur when the blood supply to part of your brain is interrupted or reduced, depriving brain tissue of oxygen and nutrients. This means that within a few minutes, brain cells begin to die. Strokes aren't always life-threatening, but the earlier you get help for someone who you think may be suffering one, the better it is for them. Prompt treatment is crucial to minimise how much of brain damage and further complications the person is left with. S – Ask the person to SMILE T – Can they TALK? Ask if they can speak a simple sentence. R – See if they can raise both arms If they can't do any one of these, call 999. Not all sufferers share the same signs, according to the NHS. Other symptoms include complete paralysis of one side of the body sudden loss or blurring of vision confusion difficulty understanding what others are saying problems with balance and coordination difficulty swallowing (dysphagia) a sudden and very severe headache resulting in a blinding pain, unlike anything experienced before loss of consciousness. If you do experience these symptoms, it doesn't always mean it's a stroke. Symptoms of a stroke that disappear quickly and in less than 24 hours could be signs of a transient ischaemic attack (TIA). More Trending TIAs are like mini-strokes and usually last a few minutes or hours before disappearing altogether. A TIA means there isn't enough oxygen going to the brain. In its early stages, a TIA and a stroke look similar, so you should seek help either way. A TIA is also a warning that you may suffer a stroke in the future. It was reported that Collins was in the hospital after undergoing knee surgery, according to the The Independent. The health update was prompted when unfounded rumors circulated online that the retired musician was on his deathbed. Collins' spokesperson attempted to calm any worry surrounding the Genesis drummer's health, assuring TMZ he is 'nowhere near death'. The spokesperson did not specify any details about the knee operation but this is not the first surgery Collins has undergone. In 2007, the In The Air Tonight hitmaker suffered a spinal injury, resulting in his continuous struggle with severe nerve damage and deteriorating mobility. His health took another difficult turn in 2021, when Collins shared with fans that on top of nerve damage, he was also battling diabetes. In the years since, his health has continued to deteriorate. Speaking to Mojo magazine in their April issue, he admitted he is no longer 'hungry' enough to make music.
