'Ransom Canyon' is officially returning for season 2 on Netflix — here's what you should know
Netflix confirmed today that 'Ransom Canyon' will return for a second season, giving fans more of the steamy Western-family drama full of love triangles and disputes.
This modern Western, set against the vast Texas Hill Country and starring Josh Duhamel and Minka Kelly, has become one of Netflix's breakout hits, spending four weeks in the global top 10 and charting in 77 countries.
Showrunner April Blair, who also serves as executive producer, expressed excitement about its renewal: 'I couldn't be happier that Netflix is ready to get back in the saddle for Ransom Canyon. Our dreamy little corner of Texas Hill Country is full of stories still untold, and we can't wait to bring them to our incredible fans. Get ready for another ride.'
'Ransom Canyon' centers on three rival ranching dynasties locked in a fierce land feud. At its heart is Staten Kirkland (Duhamel), a stoic rancher grappling with the devastating loss of his wife and son, whose only hope for renewal lies with Quinn O'Grady (Kelly), his childhood friend and the owner of the local dance hall. As pipeline interests and mysterious newcomers loom, long-buried family secrets are unearthed, while a drifter with a hidden past arrives and shakes things up.

Since the show has only just been renewed, we don't have too many details right now. But we can speculate what the next chapter will be about based on how season 1 ended.
Blair told TV Insider that fans could expect a time jump in the new episodes: 'Quinn needs to go away and save her ranch, and we need to see what the implications are for that punch that Davis goads Staten into doing and what that plot between Davis and Staten's father, the senator, is like.

'I think we would probably do that because she says, 'I'm going to go away for six months.' So the idea right now, although nothing's set in stone, is that we would do at least a six-month time jump.'
Blair also mentioned that Margaret Brigman's arrest for her involvement in Randall Kirkland's death would have long-term consequences for both her husband and daughter in season 2.
'In a potential season 2 (obviously now confirmed), I think it's a huge part of what's going on...Westerns are morality tales, and so every aspect of this show, we always try to come from that foundation of love, lands, and legacy, and what that really means.'
'For Sheriff Dan, this is his legacy and his family and the people that he loves. He has this moral choice. Does he do the right thing by his family and the wrong thing by his profession? That's his morality moment, so we try to do that with everyone, but that's the thing he's grappling with, and he painfully chooses to do the right thing.'
Most of the core cast is expected to return for 'Ransom Canyon' season 2, including Josh Duhamel as Staten, Minka Kelly as Quinn, and Eoin Macken as Davis. Lizzy Greene, Garrett Wareing, Marianly Tejada, and Jack Schumacher are also likely to reprise their roles.
We do know that season 2 is likely to pick up the pieces from multiple cliffhangers, like Quinn's potential move to New York, Yancy's surprise 'wife,' and Margaret Brigman's arrest, while diving deeper into the land feud and tangled romances.
'Ransom Canyon' has quickly found a place as a comfort show for many viewers. With just ten easy-to-watch episodes, it's perfect for a cozy weekend binge. Gugu Mbatha-Raw will take on the role of the naval officer Commander Katherine Decker, who is second in command on board the USS Kansas, which is a nuclear submarine, and jsut so happens to be one of the deadliest weapons on the planet. Meanwhile Richard Madden will play Secretary of Defence Webb Preston, who with a background in technology makes him stand out as a threat from other politicians. The show is created, written and executive produced by Jed Mercurio, who you will likely know as the creator of BBC's Bodyguard, which also starred Richard Madden. As previously mentioned leading the cast will be Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Commander Katherine Decker. Gugu shared the update of the new show on her Instagram yesterday, calling it "exciting news". You'll likely recognise Gugu from her roles in the series Surface, The Morning Show, Black Mirror and Loki. Also starring is Richard Madden as Secretary of Defence Webb Preston. You'll recognise Richard from his role as David Budd in the Bodyguard, as well as Robb Stark in Game of Thrones and from roles in movies such as Eternals and Cinderella. So far no other cast has been announced for the role.

My Grandson Asked The 1 Question I Was Totally Unprepared To Answer. Did I Say The Right Thing?
In the past few weeks, I've attended dozens of weddings. Luckily, I didn't need new clothing for each one. But I have been tasked with outfitting numerous guests, and even the bride and groom themselves, squeezing skimpily made garments with Velcro closures onto slender bodies. We're talking plastic bodies ― Barbies, Kens, Skippers, Chelseas and Disney princesses. Dozens of them pepper the playroom of my 4-year-old granddaughter. 'They're getting married,' is the phrase that she voices every time — and it's plenty of times — that she recruits me to 'play Barbie.' Barbie typically marries Ken, although I've also attended the weddings of Cinderella and Ken and Snow White and Ken. (Barbie must be flush with jealousy!) The marriage of Barbie and Barbie or Ken and Ken hasn't yet crossed her mind, and, honestly, I feel that it's her parents' place, not mine, to have that conversation. However, underscoring that kids' imaginations — or views of reality — vary, my 3-year-old granddaughter recently exclaimed during a bath: 'My mermaid is going to a wedding.' I couldn't help but ask, 'Who is she marrying?' 'The other mermaid,' she exclaimed, as she began washing them to prepare for the big event. My oldest grandchild, who is 8, has told me about people of the same sex getting married. When he's brought it up, I've reinforced that scenario by simply saying, 'You marry the person you fall in love with.' And I've added that not everyone gets married. Three of my four grandchildren have already gotten 'married' — only my youngest grandchild is not hitched. My third grader married a girl when they were in preschool. My Barbie aficionado married that girl's younger brother. And my other grandson, 5, recently married a girl in his kindergarten class. 'What does that mean?' I asked him. 'We kissed,' he responded. Why are these kids, like many others, obsessed with marriage at such a young age? Why is it the norm for them to imitate? I've been thinking about this for a while, but a recent incident brought these thoughts to the forefront. I was at the Target customer service counter, trying to return a youth-sized shirt I'd bought months earlier. The teenage customer service representative informed me that I couldn't return it because I had already reached my limit of receipt-less returns. But, he said, as if declaring good news, 'Your husband can come in and return it on his driver's license.' My husband? It seemed awfully presumptuous to say. I couldn't hold back, replying something about it being inappropriate to assume that everyone is married. Here's where I admit that I've been divorced for almost 18 years. So, yes, his assumption that I have a husband hit a nerve. It's not the Target employee's fault that I have baggage, but is it perhaps society's fault that the suggestion so seamlessly flew out of his mouth? According to the Current Population Survey, in 2022, an estimated 49.2% of Americans were unmarried (never married, divorced, widowed) — in other words, single! And there's nothing wrong with that. Research indicates that single people are, in general, satisfied with both singlehood and life. Given this, it astounds me that this unworldly teen assumed I was married. It also amazes me that I was told that tickets were only sold in pairs when I tried to get three tickets to an upscale magic show in New York, that the price of a single room on a Caribbean cruise was more costly than my daughter's suite for her family of four, and that almost every couple who my ex-husband and I used to socialize with on Saturday nights stopped asking me to join them on dinner dates post-divorce. I haven't been able to find studies on when 'divorce' should become part of a child's vocabulary, when it's not their own parents who are divorcing. Recently, my youngest grandson asked me why 'Grampa' and I are no longer married. He didn't use the word 'divorce,' but he knows I live alone, and his grandfather has another partner in the picture. I wasn't prepared for this question. I had to think on my feet. 'We grew apart,' I said. 'We still care about each other, and we share your Mommy and aunt, and we share you, your sister and your cousins.' (I vaguely recall my ex-husband and I saying something like that to our then college-age daughters when we announced that we were divorcing.) Did I say the right thing? How would my ex have replied? What would my daughter and son-in-law have said? My response seemed to satisfy this inquisitive kindergartner, but then he asked again two weeks later. I gave a similar response. Since then, I've decided that if he asks again, I'll likely defer the question to his parents. As a grandmother, it's hard to discern what's your news to share, as the saying goes. I'm not insisting we take the little ones out of their 'Barbie World' for now, but as they get older (like a certain teen at the Target counter), it might be good for them to learn that marriage is not always golden and that being single is a viable option in a world that's still built for two. I'm fine with being single, but even I sometimes feel uncomfortable, anxious and vulnerable when I walk into a couple-filled room. When my grandchildren become adults, I want them to feel fully 'accepted,' even if they get divorced or never choose to marry at all. 'Liver King' Arrested in Austin After Bizarre Joe Rogan Comments
The social media and fitness influencer known as the "Liver King" was arrested in Austin, TX. That's according to KXAN-TV, which reported that the "Liver King's" real name is Brian Johnson, and jail records showed him in custody on the evening of June 24. The jail records obtained by Men's Journal online do confirm that a Brian Johnson is being held on a potential charge of making terroristic threats. He was booked at 7:31 p.m. on June 24 by the Austin Police Department, the jail records say. Sources told KXAN that the Johnson on the jail list is the same person as the "Liver King." The Liver King was featured on Untold: The Liver King on Netflix. "He built a supplement empire by devouring raw meat on social media. And he had the muscles to prove it. But, really, how did the Liver King get so huge?" the Netflix caption reads. The nature of the alleged threats is not clear, nor is the person they were made against. However, the "Liver King" recently posted about Rogan: "Joe Rogan, I'm calling you out, my name's Liver King. Man to man, I'm picking a fight with you. I have no training in Jiu-jitsu, you're a black belt, you should dismantle me. But I'm picking a fight with you. Your rules, I'll come to you, whenever you're ready.' It's not clear whether the Rogan comments have anything to do with the Liver King's arrest, though. The Liver King has 2.9 million followers on Instagram. The top video on the Liver King's page shows a man in a police uniform. Another video starts with the narration, "I'm now recording with the cops outside." A video was captioned, "Liver king is stood in a shower pouring coffee up his arse picking a fight with Joe rogan before GTA 6."
