Chilling Photos Show Severe Bruises on the Face of Female Victim Attacked in Cincinnati Mass Brawl
Grim photos of the female victim, who was brutally attacked during the horrific Cincinnati mass brawl, show severe bruises on her face. Ohio Senator Bernardo Moreno shared the grim images online on Thursday (July 31). The pictures featured gruesome injuries on the entire face and neck of the female victim.
Morena shared the photos, introducing the victim as Holly. He wrote that the woman gave him permission to release the images in the hope of bringing a change. The Senator said Holly hopes no one ever suffers from what she did. He wrote the post with the following words:
Cincinnati is an amazing and spectacular City. It deserves political leadership that matches the greatness of its citizens. @AftabPureval issues a late/weak statement, Police Chief blames social media (not the lack of almost 200 officers), Prosecutor @ConniePillich lets off lowlifes with $400 bail, @RepGregLandsman silent & posting about Ukraine, City Council member blames the victim.
This is Holly. She wanted to have a nice evening out with friends. Instead, she got this. Holly gave me permission to release the photos so that others will never suffer what she did.
We need and deserve change.
The post captured the attention of several social media users, who shared their opinions in the comments section. Here are a few of them:
That mob of like 15 people should be charged with attempted murder! This is what Democrat party policies like CRT do to black people's minds. They think white people are systemically racist and that they are somehow oppressed. There is systemic racism, and it's not from white people.
Holly, you are one tough chick, and you did not deserve any bit of that. Your aggressors better be prosecuted to the highest extent of the law. This is federal. This is a hate crime. Praying for you, your friends, and your family.
This is just wrong at all levels. I am an Ohio resident, and this happens all too often. The Ohio Attorney General said he would make sure this crime was punished, yet two of the suspects have already been released with a $400 bond. And they are known criminals with records. A 3rd one was arrested, but I have not heard about his release yet. This is not acceptable in any way.
This is horrible - The people who did this need to be put away for a while - They certainly don't need to be running in the streets.
Poor Holly... she just wanted laughs and ended up with scars. People in power do better. Please.
Earlier this week, Vivek Ramaswamy, a former presidential candidate who is now running for Ohio governor, revealed the identity of the female victim. He named her Holly and said he spoke to her. According to him, the female victim did not receive any messages from the local or state officials, apart from the police detectives.
Cincinnati Police Chief Teresa Theetge announced that five people have been charged in connection with the horrific brawl that took place in the city's downtown on Friday. The incident captured public attention after a video of a white man and a woman being beaten by a group. Cincinnati Police Chief Teresa Theetge said the assault at the intersection of Fourth and Elm Streets began with a verbal dispute between at least two men.

US senators call for Meta probe after Reuters report on its AI policies

WASHINGTON - Two Republican US senators called for a congressional investigation into Meta Platforms on Aug 14 after Reuters exclusively reported on an internal policy document that permitted the company's chatbots to 'engage a child in conversations that are romantic or sensual.' Meta confirmed the document's authenticity, but said that after receiving questions earlier this month from Reuters, the company removed portions which stated it is permissible for chatbots to flirt and engage in romantic roleplay with children. 'So, only after Meta got CAUGHT did it retract portions of its company doc,' Senator Josh Hawley, a Republican from Missouri, said in a post on social media site X. 'This is grounds for an immediate congressional investigation,' Mr Hawley said. A spokesperson for Senator Marsha Blackburn, a Republican from Tennessee, said she supports an investigation into the social media company. A spokesperson for Meta did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Ms Blackburn also added that the report illustrates the need to pass reforms to better protect children online, such as the Kids Online Safety Act (Kosa), a Bill she co-sponsored which the Senate passed in 2024 but which failed in the US House of Representatives. Even worse, the company has turned a blind eye to the devastating consequences of how its platforms are designed,' Ms Blackburn said. Kosa would make explicit a 'duty of care' that social media companies have when it comes to minors using their products, focusing on design of the platforms and regulation of the companies. The standards described in the Meta document don't necessarily reflect 'ideal or even preferable' generative AI outputs, the document states. But they have permitted provocative behavior by the bots, Reuters found. In one example, the document notes that it would be acceptable for a bot to tell a shirtless eight-year-old that 'every inch of you is a masterpiece – a treasure I cherish deeply.' Senator Ron Wyden, a Democrat from Oregon, called the policies 'deeply disturbing and wrong,' adding that Section 230, a law that shields internet companies from liability for the content posted to their platforms, should not protect companies' generative AI chatbots. 'Meta and Zuckerberg should be held fully responsible for any harm these bots cause,' he said. Senator Peter Welch, a Democrat of Vermont, said the report 'shows how critical safeguards are for AI – especially when the health and safety of kids is at risk.' The Senate voted 99-1 in July to remove a provision in President Donald Trump's sweeping tax-cut and spending Bill that would have effectively barred states from passing AI regulation. In the absence of federal laws regulating AI, states have passed legislation, including bans on using the technology to create child sexual abuse material. REUTERS

Trump deploys National Guard to DC, takes control of city police
[WASHINGTON] President Donald Trump announced he would take control of Washington DC's Metropolitan Police Department and deploy the National Guard as part of a push to reduce crime and homelessness in the nation's capital. 'Our capital city has been overtaken by violent gangs and bloodthirsty criminals, roving mobs of wild youth, drugged-out maniacs and homeless people,' Trump said on Monday (Aug 11) at a White House press conference. 'And we're not going to let it happen anymore.' The National Guard unit is expected to assist with logistics, transportation, and other tasks, with an eye toward freeing up more local police to make arrests. That's similar to Trump's deployment of the National Guard in Los Angeles earlier this year to assist federal immigration officials carrying out raids. The move was made over the wishes of California Governor Gavin Newsom, a Democrat, and prompted days of protests. Trump is able to temporarily seize control of the city's police department under emergency powers granted in a decades-old law that gives the more than 700,000 residents of Washington the political autonomy to elect a mayor and city council members. The combined effort is designed to target homelessness and violent crime, Trump said. 'You want to be able to leave your apartment or your house where you live and feel safe and go into a store to buy a newspaper or buy something, and you don't have that now,' Trump said at the event, flanked by officials including Attorney General Pam Bondi and Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth. Sign Up Sign Up Violent crime has been dropping in the District for two years, according to local police data. As of Jan 3, violent crime in DC in 2024 was at a 30-year low, according to the US Justice Department. But the moves come after a former Department of Government Efficiency staffer said he was assaulted in a weekend carjacking attempt earlier this month, prompting the president to cast Washington as a crime-ridden city. The White House subsequently announced that law enforcement officers from more than a dozen agencies – including the FBI, DEA, and ATF – would deploy across the city for nearly a week. The president's efforts to exert greater control in the capital risks inflaming tensions with the city's residents, who overwhelmingly supported Democrat Kamala Harris in the 2024 election and who have borne the economic brunt of Trump's efforts to dramatically reduce the federal workforce. Trump previously signed an executive order that makes it easier for states and cities to remove outdoor encampments on federal lands and get people into mental health or addiction treatment, a shift in approach from existing policies that have worked to find housing for homeless people first and then seek treatment opportunities for them. He also signed an executive order that created a panel to coordinate efforts to improve safety and address graffiti and vandalism in the city. BLOOMBERG

Trump wants to move homeless people ‘far' from Washington
Sign up now: Get ST's newsletters delivered to your inbox A homeless person sits on a bench in a park in Washington, ranked 15th among major US cities by homeless population. WASHINGTON - President Donald Trump said on Aug 10 that homeless people must be moved 'far' from Washington, after days of musing about taking federal control of the US capital where he has falsely suggested crime is rising. The Republican billionaire has announced a press conference for Aug 11 in which he is expected to reveal his plans for Washington – which is run by the locally elected government of the District of Columbia under congressional oversight. It is an arrangement Mr Trump has long publicly chafed at. He has threatened to federalise the city and give the White House the final say in how it is run. 'I'm going to make our Capital safer and more beautiful than it ever was before,' the president posted on his Truth Social platform on Aug 10. 'The Homeless have to move out, IMMEDIATELY. We will give you places to stay, but FAR from the Capital,' he continued, adding that criminals in the city would be swiftly imprisoned. 'It's all going to happen very fast,' he said. Earlier this week Mr Trump also threatened to deploy the National Guard as part of a crackdown on what he falsely says is rising crime in Washington. Violent crime in the capital fell in the first half of 2025 by 26 per cent compared with a year earlier, police statistics show. The city's crime rates in 2024 were already their lowest in three decades, according to figures produced by the Justice Department before Mr Trump took office. 'We are not experiencing a crime spike,' Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser said Aug 10 on MSNBC. While the mayor, a Democrat, was not critical of Mr Trump in her remarks, she said 'any comparison to a war torn country is hyperbolic and false.' Mr Trump's threat to send in the National Guard comes weeks after he deployed California's military reserve force into Los Angeles to quell protests over immigration raids, despite objections from local leaders and law enforcement. The president has frequently mused about using the military to control America's cities, many of which are under Democratic control and hostile to his nationalist impulses. AFP
