Culzean Castle appeal after bespoke Lego figure disappears

Daily Record25-06-2025
Staff at the National Trust for Scotland are hoping that Thomas Kennedy, a bespoke Lego figure, can be found after disappearing from Culzean Castle.
Staff at Culzean Castle and Country Park are on the hunt for Thomas Kennedy - a bespoke Lego figure which has gone missing.
Last seen on Wednesday, June 18, Thomas had been hiding in the castle's wardrobe room as part of the popular children's Lego hunt.

The figure is one of a unique set which the National Trust for Scotland had made specially for the Lego hunt.

When last seen, Thomas was wearing a black hat, black waistcoat, green shirt and black trousers.
Designed and built by Robert Adam in the late 18th century, Culzean Castle was once home to David Kennedy, 10th Earl of Cassilis and his family.
The Lego figures portray different people with links to the castle including Thomas Kennedy - David's father and the 9th Earl of Cassilis.
A much-loved and popular sight among children and adults alike, different Lego figures have been hidden around the castle for around 20 years.
The National Trust for Scotland are hoping that Thomas can be found and returned to the castle so he can continue to be a part of the children's Lego hunt.

A spokesperson for the National Trust for Scotland said: "Sadly, one of our cherished figures has been taken.
"These little legends are a huge part of the experience, and their disappearance takes a bit of magic away from everyone.
"These were made especially for the castle and are extremely difficult (maybe even impossible) to replace.

"Whilst there is likely little we can do about this, it's important to highlight that behaviour like this can spoil it for the majority and we welcome you into the castle with the anticipation that you will leave only with souvenirs only from our gift shop (and of course some wonderful memories).
"Could Thomas Kennedy make his way back to us?"

Why grown-up toy lovers are buying Pokémon, plushies and Raleigh Choppers

From retro bikes to plush toys and Pokémon cards, these are just some of the kidult favourites flying off shelves right now. | NationalWorld This article contains affiliate links. We may earn a small commission on items purchased through this article, but that does not affect our editorial judgement. I went looking into the £1bn kidult toy boom and ended up with Pokémon cards in my basket and serious nostalgia for the summer of '75. I've been intrigued by reports of the kidult phenomenon – adults buying toys for themselves in record numbers – so I decided to dig in. Ten minutes later I was in a full-on nostalgia spiral and my online basket was suspiciously full. (I'm 59, by the way.) It turns out I'm not alone. According to consumer analysts Circana, UK shoppers aged 12 and over – including a rapidly growing number of adults – are now responsible for almost £1 in every £3 spent on toys. That's a whopping £1 billion in sales over the past year alone. And it's not just for gifts. We're talking grown-ups proudly buying Pokémon cards, Lego sets, and collectible figures for themselves. It makes sense. We've all lived through enough stress lately. If a squishy plush or an old-school trading card brings even a flash of comfort or joy, what's the harm? In fact, Circana says these toys are part of the 'joy economy', helping people cope with modern life through nostalgia and escapism. So, in the spirit of festive fun and self-gifting, here are five of the hottest kidult toys right now – the ones everyone's talking about, and yes, the ones I'm seriously considering buying for myself. 1. Pokémon Holiday Calendar 2025 – a nostalgic countdown with serious card loot The Pokémon Holiday Calendar 2025 is packed with cards, stickers and festive exclusives – a daily dose of nostalgia for collectors and fans alike. | Pokemon Let's be honest: advent calendars have become a thing for grown-ups – and this one's a winner if you're a millennial who remembers your first Pikachu. The 2025 Pokémon Holiday Calendar is packed with cards, stickers and exclusive festive goodies that make it more than worth the price. You get six full booster packs, eight festive-stamped foil cards, and even three-card fun packs for that little daily hit of excitement. It's like a Christmas countdown and a childhood flashback rolled into one. 2. LEGO Star Wars R2-D2 – the droid that's stolen my heart (and my basket) This LEGO Star Wars R2-D2 set is packed with features and collectible extras – a centrepiece build that hits the sweet spot between nostalgia and display-worthy design. | LEGO As 'research' (honest), I entered my age and interests into LEGO's online gift finder – expecting maybe a keyring or two. What came back was a full-blown temptation assault. From retro icons to architectural marvels, it's clear they know exactly how to lure in the kidult crowd. But the one I couldn't resist? This LEGO Star Wars R2-D2 set. At £89.99, it's not cheap – but it's a glorious, display-worthy tribute to everyone's favourite astromech droid. It's got a rotating head, working periscope, hidden tools, a stand and plaque, and a bonus mini R2-D2. There's even a 25th anniversary Darth Malak figure thrown in. 3. Squishmallows Ambergris – the goblin king of cuddle culture Squishmallow I'll be honest – I hadn't really clocked the whole plush toy thing for adults. But the more I looked, the more I realised half the people I know probably already own one. These are not your childhood teddies. Squishmallows have become a full-blown adult fandom, thanks to their oversized designs, quirky backstories and ridiculously soft texture. I stumbled across Ambergris, the 16-inch Goblin King, on Amazon – and suddenly I got it. He's burgundy, weirdly majestic, and apparently collects porcelain pig figurines. No notes. Whether it ends up on your bed, your desk, or your sofa, this plush is part toy, part comfort blanket, and part conversation starter. 4. Bandai Dragon Ball Super Blue Goku – the anime icon striking a pose on my desk The Dragon Ball Evolve Blue Goku figure offers fully poseable action at a pocket-friendly price – a must-have for anime fans and collectors alike. | Amazon Even I've noticed that anime has taken over – not just streaming platforms, but merch shelves, gift guides and collector wishlists across the world. Its roots may be in Japan, China and South Korea, but anime's bold art style and sprawling fantasy universes have made it the global fandom of the moment. If you're dipping a toe into the world of figures, Bandai's Dragon Ball Evolve range is a good place to start. This Blue Goku action figure, currently Amazon's top anime toy, is fully articulated, surprisingly detailed for the price, and just £9.99. You get 15 points of movement, iconic poses from the Dragon Ball Super saga, and a character that's been powering up since the '80s. 5. Raleigh Chopper Fizzy Lemon – the ultimate throwback to my Evel Knievel days It's back! And yours for £999. | Raleigh Back in 1975, I ruled the streets on a gleaming purple Raleigh Chopper. Perched high on the banana seat, arms stretched to those ridiculous handlebars, I felt like Evel Knievel pedalling into history. It wasn't just a bike – it was freedom. And danger. I once launched off a brick ramp in our back garden and came down minus most of the skin on my knees. Now, the Chopper's back – and I'm seriously tempted. The new MK4 edition has all the retro glory of the originals: oversized seat, sissy bar, working 3-speed shifter and those iconic U-bars. The Fizzy Lemon version is a sunshine yellow time machine, right down to the vintage decals. At £999, it's no casual purchase – but for collectors and die-hard fans, it's a piece of living history. I started this as a quick look into a trend – and ended up with a shortlist of gifts I'd happily give myself. Whether you're shopping early for Christmas or just in need of a little joy injection, it turns out toys aren't just for kids anymore. And honestly? That might be the healthiest thing I've learned all year.

Second parent shares 'strangling' fears at Scots primary school

The mum, who spoke anonymously to protect her daughter's identity, revealed a series of troubling incidents. A second parent has come forward to claim her daughter fell victim of an 'attempted strangling' at a Scots primary school. ‌ The mum, who spoke anonymously to protect her daughter's identity revealed a serious of troubling incidents which saw her daughter, allegedly strangled, choked, threatened with a knife an a abused by a fellow pupil. ‌ She said her child had to be regularly taken out of her P4 class due to the violence she faced. And she feared for her daughter who has 'anxiety' about returning to school to start P5, Edinburgh Live reports. ‌ 'I feel physically sick at her lack of safety,' the mum said. 'She is terrified, she walks to school and comes home in tears. 'Each day I'm waiting by the phone to hear she has been hurt again. I feel like her education is being failed and they are not interested in taking on my complaint. 'The child who is doing this to her needs proper support. He should not be in a mainstream setting. 'I keep getting told this child is entitled to a state education. So is my child and she currently isn't getting that. They are failing my child.' The latest incident of strangling apparently took place shortly after her daughter had suffered from a broken collar bone which left her in serious pain. Another incident of choking is said to have taken place at the school. 'My daughter has been strangled and choked on two occasions now,' the mum added. 'She was also attacked with Lego. ‌ 'The boy threatened her by saying he was going to the canteen to get a knife for her. The way the school handles it also makes her a target for this boy. 'Their classroom is being evacuated all the time due to the boy throwing tables and chairs. He even attacked the teacher and smashed up thousands of pounds worth of equipment. ‌ 'He also swears and uses vile language towards my daughter and others. I'm at the stage where I'm considering going to the police as the council and school are doing nothing. 'Her anxiety is through the roof about going back to school. We are speaking to a GP this week for help and advice in regards to what we can do. 'I am an NHS worker and have had to take a long period of time off work to support my child with her needs with the ongoing issues.' ‌ Our sister title Edinburgh Live previously reported on violence at the same school. They told how a boy had targeted another girl over the course of the 2024/25 academic year. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! The mother, who we chose not to name to protect her daughter's identity, has said her nine-year-old has been observed to have PTSD symptoms and suffer from anxiety as well as incontinence as a result of the multiple alleged attacks. ‌ On three occasions the attempt to strangle her daughter took place in school with another two taking place at the after school club which the parent has since removed her daughter from. An image shared at the time of reporting showed red marks on the young girl's neck. She also raised concerns about the young boy being found to have snapped cutlery items which were sharpened to points in his school tray at the end of the school year. 'There have been three instances of her being strangled at school and two at the after school club by the same boy,' she claimed. 'After the first incident we were told preventative steps were put in place but it keeps happening. 'On the second occasion I got a call from the deputy head telling me another boy had pinned her down while the same boy strangled her. I was then assured they would be separated and I was confident something would be done as staff seemed understanding. That was until it happened again.' A Midlothian council spokesman said: 'As we would always advise, families should work with the school. We do not comment on individual cases.'

Ibiza Final Boss Jack Kay looks unrecognisable in old photo before famous hair cut

Ibiza Final Boss Jack Kay went viral overnight for his Lego Style haircut and turkey teeth look but he once had a very different appearance. Ibiza Final Boss Jack Kay looks unrecognisable in an unearthed snap of the viral raver that reveals exactly what he looked like before his distinctive transformation. The 26-year-old became an internet sensation overnight thanks to his signature 'Lego' haircut. His 'turkey teeth' and oversized shades also complete his Ibiza look but his appearance before all of this has now been uncovered. ‌ In an old snap, baby-faced Jack is seen enjoying a pint with his pals but, even then, it's not too difficult to spot which one he is. Jack, who went viral for his 'Ibiza bob' while throwing shapes on the Spanish party island, previously sported a short, back and sides haircut which is miles away from the medium skin fade that has become synonymous with the viral star. ‌ The Ibiza Final Boss found fame overnight after a video of him dancing brought it over 26M views on TikTok. It's not known when the old snap of Jack and his mates was taken but the Geordie appears to be in his late teens at the time. ‌ In another more recent image, his sculpted facial hair is visible and his barnet is longer on top, but it's still not his final Ibiza Boss form, the Mirror reports. Jack has now used his newfound fame to launch nightclub tours in Ibiza and has even been seen filming a brief video meet up with controversial adult star Bonnie Blue. He also has plans to launch a music career to take his fame to new heights after he was featured on a new dance track released on Spotify this week following his signing with a management team. Jack shot to fame when Zero Six West Ibiza posted footage on TikTok of him dancing at a club in a chain and black tank top holding a drink. ‌ The footage sparked hundreds of memes and jokes about his Lego style haircut. Dubbed the 'Ibiza Final Boss, a reference to the last and typically most difficult enemy to face in a video game, Jack now has over 120,000k followers on Instagram and more than 800,000 likes on TikTok. However, it's not all smooth sailing for the new star as there is apparently trouble in paradise when it comes to his love life. ‌ His glamorous girlfriend Alisha Cook reportedly dumped him on his first Ibiza trip, just days before he went viral. The Newcastle lad is now said to be fighting to save his relationship with the model and debt collector from Co Durham. ‌ Alisha was allegedly so angry with her boyfriend's antics in Ibiza that she broke up with him before videos of his haircut made him go viral. The couple have reportedly worked things out since, but a friend of Jack's warned he was 'skating on thin ice' over his party lifestyle. They told the Daily Mail: "Alisha called it off when Jack went to Ibiza with the lads. They'd been together for almost a year and he was living at her place but things hadn't been right for months. ‌ "His car is still on her drive, she threw all his clothes in the back of it. She doesn't want him around anymore. She's had inklings that something was not right for a while. She just wants to wash her hands of him. Alisha is so beautiful. No one is quite sure what she saw in him." However, it appears Alisha had a quick change of heart as she's now publicly declared herself as Jack's girlfriend since he rose to internet stardom. In a series of TikTok videos captioned: "POV: ya boyfriend's now known as Ibiza Final Boss," Alisha is seen cosying up to Jack, including clips of him kissing her cheek and the two of them partying together.
