Olly Murs praises 'hugely successful' X Factor
The Dance With Me Tonight hitmaker got his big break when he came second to Joe McElderry in the 2009 series of the show - which ended in 2018 after 15 seasons - and he's now praised the legacy of the programme for being a starting place for a string of "big careers" over the years.
He told BBC Radio Lancashire: "I think there's no doubt we can all sit here and say that the X Factor was huge.
"It's hugely successful for creating such stars, from the One Direction boys, to Harry Styles, Niall has obviously done things, Louis, I mean, all the boys from that band came out and did great stuff.
"You know, me, James Arthur, Little Mix, Lucy Spraggan – there's some real, I mean, the list goes on and on, to be honest. Alexandra Burke! There have been endless people who have come. Stacey Solomon, of course, even though she's not doing music, she's doing so well herself.
"There's just so many over the years that have just had such big careers. That's the thing. That's what the show was built on, bringing young people off the street or young people an opportunity and a chance to change their lives forever. We took it and embraced it and look where we are now."
Meanwhile, Olly will be taking to the stage for the closing headline slot at Hardwick Live festival on 17 August.
He will top bill on the Main Stage for the final day of the three-day event at Hardwick Hall, County Durham, following performances from the likes of Tom Walker, The Wailers, Scouting for Girls and Elvana, while the Treehouse Arena will see Toploader, Jamie Lawson and D: Ream take to the stage and Boogie Wonderland will have sets from Dan Shake, Horse Meat Disco, and Brandon Block.
Friday (15.08.25) night is headlined by Scissor Sisters, while Saturday (16.08.25) will see the Pet Shop Boys bring their Dreamworld: Greatest Hits tour to Hardwick Live.
Other acts performing at the family-friendly event include Sam Ryder, the Brand New Heavies, The Lathums, The K's, Alabama 3, and Everything Everything.
Away from the music, the festival also offers gourmet street food, themed bars, comedy, yoga, magic shows, dance music, a dedicated family zone, and a wide range of immersive activities.

Olly Murs opens up about feud with twin brother
Olly Murs says becoming a father has made helped him to 'relate to his mum's sadness' over his estrangement from his twin brother. The 40-year-old singer - who has 16-month old daughter Madison and a new baby on the way with wife Amelia Tank - famously fell out with his twin Ben when he missed his sibling's wedding to compete in 'The X Factor' semi-finals in 2009. Meanwhile, Olly previously admitted he couldn't "sit in a room alone" after he and Ben fell out. He told The Times magazine: "When you've been in the womb with someone, you struggle with loneliness. I had to deal with it when my twin and I went on our separate lives. "I was desperate to be around people, could not sit in a room alone. "When I was single for three years, I had to learn to like my own company. That's when I met Amelia." The 'Dear Darlin'' hitmaker hailed his wife as "the love of [his] life" and recalled how he quickly knew how strongly he felt for the bodybuilder. He said: "I always thought that spark when you fall in love was a load of Disney rubbish. People would talk about that moment and you'd go, 'Really?' And when it does happen, it's not like it is in films, of course. When that person walks into your life and changes how you feel, you know. She's gorgeous, the love of my life. We're a good team." Despite Olly's career success, his main goal for the future is being a "great" family man. He said: "My aim in life is to be a great husband and father - that's where my future lies. "I'd love my career to continue as it is, but when you get married and become a dad, you just want to be the best for them."

Celebrity SAS star Lucy Spraggan needs surgery after ‘ripping' intimate body part as stunt goes wrong
A competitor on the UK celebrity version of SAS: Who Dares Wins has sustained a rare and painful injury after a stunt on the show went horribly wrong. X Factor singer Lucy Spraggon was left bleeding and in agonising pain on the notoriously hardcore reality show and now will have to undergo reconstructive surgery. The show pits celebrities against each other, testing their resilience in a condensed version of a SAS selection course and is run by an elite team of ex-Special Forces soldiers. Spraggon revealed the horrific extent of her injuries to The Sun , saying medics initially thought she had hurt her leg, but the reality was far worse. 'I ripped my labia - it was bad. That's not a common injury,' the 34-year-old said. 'Actually, genuinely, that's never been the same, so much so I'm having some surgery soon to correct it. 'I don't really know even what happened, I guess the harness was tight. 'I was like: 'This feels really bad. Surely there can't be anything.' And I looked and there was a tear, there was lots of blood and the doctor came over and I turned around because at that point you literally don't care about anything. Dignity has gone. It was like: 'Oh my God, I thought it was your leg.' And I was like: 'No, no, it's not!'' It wasn't the only time she was injured on the gruelling series. Spraggon said she also nearly knocked out one of her teeth, got a black eye and fainted. 'I had the filler under my eyes and when my face hit the sea so hard my filler migrated to the side of my face,' she said. 'By that point I was just in pain the filler didn't migrate back, when I got home I had to have it dissolved.' Despite the injuries, Spraggon has called being on the show a 'life goal'. 'I met some brilliantly brave and inspiring people and took part in things I never imagined I would get to do,' she wrote on Instagram. 'A truly unforgettable experience!'
