Olly Murs praises 'hugely successful' X Factor
Olly Murs has praised The X Factor for launching so many huge stars. The Dance With Me Tonight hitmaker got his big break when he came second to Joe McElderry in the 2009 series of the show - which ended in 2018 after 15 seasons - and he's now praised the legacy of the programme for being a starting place for a string of "big careers" over the years. He told BBC Radio Lancashire: "I think there's no doubt we can all sit here and say that the X Factor was huge. "It's hugely successful for creating such stars, from the One Direction boys, to Harry Styles, Niall has obviously done things, Louis, I mean, all the boys from that band came out and did great stuff. "You know, me, James Arthur, Little Mix, Lucy Spraggan – there's some real, I mean, the list goes on and on, to be honest. Alexandra Burke! There have been endless people who have come. Stacey Solomon, of course, even though she's not doing music, she's doing so well herself. "There's just so many over the years that have just had such big careers. That's the thing. That's what the show was built on, bringing young people off the street or young people an opportunity and a chance to change their lives forever. We took it and embraced it and look where we are now." Meanwhile, Olly will be taking to the stage for the closing headline slot at Hardwick Live festival on 17 August. He will top bill on the Main Stage for the final day of the three-day event at Hardwick Hall, County Durham, following performances from the likes of Tom Walker, The Wailers, Scouting for Girls and Elvana, while the Treehouse Arena will see Toploader, Jamie Lawson and D: Ream take to the stage and Boogie Wonderland will have sets from Dan Shake, Horse Meat Disco, and Brandon Block. Friday (15.08.25) night is headlined by Scissor Sisters, while Saturday (16.08.25) will see the Pet Shop Boys bring their Dreamworld: Greatest Hits tour to Hardwick Live. Other acts performing at the family-friendly event include Sam Ryder, the Brand New Heavies, The Lathums, The K's, Alabama 3, and Everything Everything. Away from the music, the festival also offers gourmet street food, themed bars, comedy, yoga, magic shows, dance music, a dedicated family zone, and a wide range of immersive activities. Founder John Adamson said: "Hardwick Festival has always been about creating unforgettable experiences. 'Our 10th anniversary last year will take some beating. But in 2025, we're delivering our most exciting and inclusive line-up yet – world-class headliners, vibrant family zones, and premium camping options in an iconic location. There's truly something for everyone.' Olly kicked off with his 2012 hit Troublemaker, before belting out Right Place The Right Time and Please Don't Let Me Go to a packed out crowd. The musician then took a trip down memory lane and told fans: "Ladies and gentleman, I'm taking you guys all the way back, right to the beginning, put your hands up." Olly brought the energy with his cheeky-chappy charisma as he sang his catchy 2010 track Thinking of Me, with the star rocking the stage with his slick moves and turning the crowd into a full-on singalong. The atmosphere was buzzing with festival-goers of all ages attending this four-day music event, with even Wayne Rooney's wife Coleen and her family enjoying the weekend. This is the first year this new festival was held at Bolesworth Castle, a Grade II listed building. The views alone are worth the visit, with plenty of rural beauty to admire while rocking out to the music and enjoying a bite to eat. UB40 also took to the main stage earlier that day and it wouldn't be a UB40 performance without them singing their arguably best know hit Red Red Wine, which got the festival-goers singing along. Another standout star from the line-up was rapper Professor Green, who performed a set on Sunday. Although there was some rain and grey skies at times, it definitely didn't dampen spirits and if anything brought attendees together. Olly Murs breaks silence on baby two 'I didn't expect it to happen this quick' The Lullaby hitmaker looked in good form as he performed in front of a lively crowd, opening with his 2019 track Bad Decisions. He was full of enthusiasm as he sang other well known hits Remedy, Monster and Read All About It while bouncing around the stage. British singer-songwriter Cat Burns also delivered a flawless performance with her silky smooth vocals on Saturday night. Cat commanded the stage as she belted out her hugely successful huge track Go, leaving the crowds wanting more. There was plenty more artists taking to the stage across the weekend - with noughties favourites Scouting for Girls, Britain's Got Talent's Diversity, X Factor double act Jedward, international DJ Nathan Dawe, Artful Dodger and Ocean Colour Scene. Nineties icon Gabrielle brought the sunshine with her during her set, with classics like Out of Reach, Sunshine, Dreams and Rise. The mums, dads, grandparents and kids were up on their feet for this one. There really was something for everyone. The music is not the only thing that this festival has to offer. We headed to the Wonky Lizard tent for some late night comedy and spent some of the afternoon channelling my inner Nicole Kidman in a special Moulin Rouge Cabaret show. The variety of entertainment available will keep you busy all day. There was also bingo, a Greatest Showman circus - with firebreathers and hula hoopers, and a family quiz, while tribute band Oasish paid homage to rockers Oasis in the tent, amid Noel and Liam Gallagher's comeback tour. There was a whole dedicated section to keep children occupied, with a fun fair, rides, a silent disco and even a Bluey, Peppa Pig and Bing meet and greet. The little ones were also able to enjoy some downtime in front of the a big screen playing children's films throughout the day. If you fancy taking some time out, many headed to the Retreat zone which ran from the morning to mid afternoon, offering Thai massage workshops, south baths and yoga which will leave you feeling very zen. The weather did pick up and those who wanted to get a dose of Ibiza headed to O beach, a premium pop up space with everything synonymous with O Beach including iconic round pool beds. There was even hot tubs and a dance floor with dancers putting on a immersive shows throughout the day. The quality of food vendors at the festival made the experience even better knowing we could grab some delicious food and drink without having to leave the venue. We tucked into some piping hot jacket potatoes, freshly made pizzas, and mac and cheese with loaded fries and chicken. And if you thought you'd be waiting hours for some nosh, then you'd be pleasantly surprised to know that queues were quick and efficient. Five reasons to visit Together Again Festival The music has something for everyone, if you want your cheesy pop tunes, your more electric beats, some chilled out country vibes or some throwback beats, then you'll love this. The food is reasonably priced and has a variety - from Greek food, to noodles or Italian, there is something delicious that will keep you full and happy The venue and location is breathtaking and when your attention is not on the stage, then it will be on the gorgeous scenery and the Bolesworth Castle in the backdrop Perfect for all ages whether you're a toddler or over 80. The organisers have really catered for everyone. If you fancy taking some time out you can head to the Retreat zone or if you want a mini rave then Agora tent is for you. There was also baby sensory class, science fun and circus school for the little ones. Chester perfect place to explore if you've got a few hours spare between acts. Cheshire Zoo is around a 25mins drive from Bolseworth Castle and has over 37,000 animals from over 500 incredible species. The city centre also has an array of food spots, stunning architecture and Chester Cathedral is a must visit, with plenty of history. Party-goers who wanted to get up on stage themselves headed to the Wonky Lizard for a bit of Barrioke, while you could rave from morning to night with electric dance music in the Agora tent. And those who wanted to throw things back to the 90s, boogied on down to the Rewind stage, where So Solid Crew, Ultrabeat, Sonique, East 17, Phats and Small and Soul Town performed some bangers. But my favourite had to be the Ranch stage. If you're a Taylor Swift fan and love your country music, this is the perfect little spot where you can don your cowboy boots and straw hat while chilling out on haystacks and sipping on a cold beverage. Singers Emilia Quinn, Fanny Lumsden and Shellyann were exceptional as they belted out smooth tunes and well known tracks. While the Whiskey Brothers performed some incredible covers and finished with an impressive medley - even dropping hits from Eminem and 50 cent into their round-up. Olly Murs shares sweet moment with starstruck young fan during performance
To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Olly Murs gave a young fan a moment he'll never forget in a heartfelt exchange. The Dance With Me Tonight hitmaker was performing at Carmel Racecourse over the weekend when he noticed a young boy crying on the front row of the crowd. He hopped down the barrier to talk to the boy, who tearfully told the singer his name is Zach. Speaking into the microphone in a video shared on his Instagram, Olly said: 'Now, everybody seems to be having a great time. 'Why are you crying son? Are you excited to meet me? Why are you crying?' In an incredibly wholesome moment, Zach admitted: 'Because you're my favourite.' Olly handled the sweet moment like a pro, keeping things lighthearted as he got the crowd to cheer for the lad. 'It's so lovely to meet ya! I hope you don't cry for the rest of the show,' he playfully quipped. 'Are you gonna enjoy yourself? Are you gonna dance? Good! Give it up for Zach everyone!' Olly joked Zach might not be able to remember his rise to fame on The X Factor in 2009, but he should still know the next song. 'This is Thinking of Me,' he said as he launched into the 2010 hit. Sharing the clip on Instagram, he wrote: 'Saw this kid front row crying bless him, Didn't feel right to just carry on without jumping down check he was ok!! Zach see you at another show mate!sorry that my forehead and chin are so terrifying.' It's yet another sweet example of Olly showing just how much his fans truly mean to him. Last month, he returned to the stage at London's O2 Arena after he was forced to cancel some gigs due to illness. After leaving the stage on May 24, he posted a photo on Instagram of himself looking up at the screen, on which a snap of him with a fan who died earlier this year was displayed. More Trending He wrote in the caption: 'Lou that was for you last night darlin 🙏🏻😞❤️', with fans praising the 'beautiful' tribute. 'Lou supported me everywhere up and down the country, her energy was great and she had such an infectious laugh and personality,' he continued. 'You'd always hear her before you could see her hahaha and often I'd love asking her how the show was and her then brutally telling me which songs i shouldn't keep on the set but honestly that was Lou and it wont be the same without her x (sic)' He added: 'I think I speak on behalf of all my fans to say your be missed lou 😢 thinking of you and your family right now xx 😣🙏🏻💔' Got a story?
