Tanishaa Mukerji reacted to claims that Saiyaara makers paid young people to cry and act emotional in theatres while watching the film. Here's what she said!
Saiyaara, starring debutants Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, has caused a stir at the box office, and has emerged as a surprise blockbuster. Saiyaara fever has gripped audiences across the country, especially Gen-Z, with emotional reactions flooding social media. Several videos of people crying and shouting inside the theatres while watching Saiyaara went viral on Instagram. Now, a podcast suggesting that these extreme reactions were planned by the filmmakers, caught the attention of actor Tanishaa Mukerji. She strongly responded to claims suggesting that the makers paid people to cry and act emotional in theatres, calling it yet another case of 'Bollywood bashing'. She defended the film, and stated that there is nothing wrong with people reacting to the film this way.
In The Asymmetric Crew podcast, Shantanu Deshpande raised questions about the viral frenzy surrounding Mohit Suri's Saiyaara. 'What's happening with this ridiculous Saiyaara movie. The producer of this movie, in my view, has paid ₹500 in dehadi to lots of these Gen-Z young folks to go into these theatres and put on emotional performances of crying… This is how the movie is getting promoted by the way. The whole world has now become a bunch of performers," he said. Kajol's sister Tanishaa Mukerji reacted to the viral reel, and slammed the claims. She defended the film, and wrote, 'Completely disagree. Times are changing and these people are stuck in the past. Love and appreciate the new. And honestly What rubbish is this man saying. Does he know anything for a fact. He is using the phenomenon of Saiyara to get views by talking negatively."
She further added, 'If people are reacting to a film what is so wrong about that. Just because he cannot relate doesn't mean the younger generation doesn't either. Every generation is different. This is india. We react. Go watch the film see how the audiences are moved. Then talk. This is just Bollywood bashing ! Brands just have to find new ways to connect to their audiences!"
Saiyaara has officially crossed Rs 250 crore net in India and over Rs 300 crore worldwide—making it one of the biggest sleeper hits of 2025. The film, directed by Mohit Suri, released in theatres on July 18.

Sydney Sweeney speaks out amid uproar over American Eagle ‘great genes' ad controversy

Sydney Sweeney has subtly made a comeback to social media after receiving harsh criticism for her most recent American Eagle commercial campaign. Sydney Sweeney, facing criticism for her American Eagle ad, quietly returned to social media with a flower post. (Scott A Garfitt/Invision/AP) In July, the 27-year-old Euphoria star was revealed as AE's new face, kicking off the company's fall 2025 campaign that highlighted its denim roots. The advertising campaign, 'Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans,' soon became the subject of social media criticism. The ad featured a video that was widely criticized by users, who accused it of being too sexualized and of exploiting the male gaze. The camera pans around Sydney Sweeney's body as she narrates in the contentious commercial. Sweeney stated, 'My genes determine the composition of my body,' while a camera moved along her torso. 'Hey, eyes up here.' Some social media users compared the marketing to 'Nazi propaganda' because of the wordplay that persisted in other advertising materials, which appeared to be a pun on the word 'genes.' 'Genes are passed down from parents to offspring, often determining traits like hair color, personality and even eye color. My jeans are blue,' Sweeney stated in another advertisement for the brand. 'I will be the friend that's too woke, but those Sydney Sweeney American Eagle ads are weird,' one critic said, adding that 'Like, fascist weird. Like Nazi propaganda weird.' Did Sydney Sweeney just react to the controversy? Sweeney hasn't publicly addressed the criticism of the campaign, but in the days that followed, she made a discreet comeback to social media. The Euphoria star added a white heart sticker to a picture of a bouquet of pale pink flowers that she shared on her Instagram Story on Friday, August 1. It's unknown who sent the flowers or if their purpose was to cheer her up in the face of criticism. Despite Sweeney's silence, American Eagle released a statement on Friday supporting the campaign. The brand wrote, 'Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans' is and always was about the jeans,' on Instagram. 'Her jeans. Her story. We'll continue to celebrate how everyone wears their AE jeans with confidence, their way. Great jeans look good on everyone.'

Siddhant Chaturvedi, Triptii Dimri starer Dhadak 2 struggles at box office, earns ₹3.65 on Day 1

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], August 2 (ANI): The much-awaited romantic drama 'Dhadak 2,' starring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri, finally hit theatres this Friday. While the film had generated curiosity for its fresh pairing, its box office performance on Day 1 fell short of expectations. According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, the sequel to 'Dhadak' earned ₹ 3.65 crore on its first day in India. The film's release clashed with Ajay Devgn's starer 'Son of Sardaar 2.' With two major films hitting theatres on the same day, movie buffs seem to have divided their attention, which could be one reason why the film fell short of expectations. Adding to the pressure was the continued success of Ahaan Panday's Saiyaara at the box office. The romantic drama, which hit theatres earlier on July 18, is still performing strongly. This seems to have affected the Siddhant and Dimri starrer. 'Dhadak 2' is a follow-up to 2018's 'Dhadak' and a remake of filmmaker Mari Selvaraj's 2018 Tamil film Pariyerum Perumal. As per Adarsh, the sequel's first-day numbers are below expectations, especially when compared to its first instalment, 'Dhadak,' which starred Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter. The film had earned ₹ 8.71 crore on its opening day back then. All eyes are now on the weekend collections to see if the film can pick up pace.
