Government orders 24x7 control and command centre to monitor health infra amid India-Pak conflict
NEW DELHI: The govt on Friday directed states/UTs to ensure that all
medical emergency response
health systems are adequately equipped and functional to deal with any potential medical emergency in view of the ongoing conflict with Pakistan.
Directions were also issued to officials in the health ministry to establish a
24x7 control and command centre
to monitor ongoing efforts and support states.

Since India launched '
Operation Sindoor
' on Wednesday to target terror camps across Pakistan Occupied Kashmir and Pakistan, there have been attacks on districts sharing the border with the neighbouring nation causing loss of lives and injuries to many soldiers and civilians.
If the conflict escalates further, the number of injured may go up and thus the need for immediate medical care. 'The health ministry is closely monitoring the situation and remains committed to ensuring uninterrupted healthcare services and emergency response across all regions,' union health minister J P Nadda said. The health minister held a review meeting on emergency health systems preparedness in New Delhi which was participated by top govt officials, from the centre and the states/UTs. Sources in the govt said the status of medical preparedness for handling emergency cases was presented to him.

They have been advised to coordinate with state and district administration, armed forces and regional associations of doctors, nurses, paramedics, private sector hospitals, charitable institutions etc., to strengthen the emergency response networks in a collaborative manner,' the officials said.
For capacity building in
emergency healthcare
, the officials added, training modules for Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), first aid, and basic life support are being rolled out with support from Indian Red Cross Society, National Institute of Health & Family Welfare (NIHFW) and AIIMS New Delhi among others. Union health secretary Punya Salila Srivastava apprised about a series of her meetings with states/UTs, and central government hospitals and healthcare institutes for seamless coordination with relevant stakeholders at the centre and within the states for ensuring effective response.
Govt sources said BHISHM cubes are being deployed at AIIMS Jammu and SKIMS Srinagar near India's border to bolster medical readiness. These BHISHM cubes are also being stationed in other Institutes of National Importance (INIs) across India, including AIIMS in Rishikesh, Bilaspur and Delhi, they said.
BHISHM cubes consist of more than 200 boxes/cubes of medical equipment – that can be made used to create a functional medical set up at any spot within 10 minutes. The prototype of this set up was displayed recently at the G20 summit in Gandhinagar. Officials said the prototype has enough medicines and equipment to provide emergency medical aid to more than 200 persons affected in any disaster situation. 'One of the biggest causes for loss of lives in any disaster situation is delayed medical intervention. This mobile hospital unit can help the health specialists or even trained manpower perform blood tests and take x-rays for preliminary diagnosis for medical intervention. It will also have the facility to conduct minor operations, for example removing a portion of the skull to relieve pressure on the underlying brain in case of a head injury,' officials said.

Parliament Monsoon Session: Opposition protests over SIR, PM reply continue, both Houses adjourned
The Rajya Sabha was adjourned for the day on Thursday after repeated disruptions by Opposition members over the issue of revision of electoral rolls in Bihar. The House was adjourned soon after Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal made a suo motu statement on the imposition of 25% tariff by the US, asserting that India will take all steps necessary to protect its national interest. Proceedings in the Lok Sabha too were adjourned for the day soon after Goyal made a statement on the US tariff announcement amid Opposition's protest against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise in Bihar. The Upper House, earlier in the day, witnessed three adjournments amid uproar by Opposition MPs over no reply by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the debate on Operation Sindoor in the House; they also raised the SIR issue. The first adjournment happened soon after the proceedings began at 11 am; the second one when the House met at 12 noon; and the third when the House met again at 2 pm. The Chair adjourned the proceedings till 4.30 pm as Opposition members continued their noisy protests. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said Opposition MPs had raised slogans demanding the Prime Minister come to the House, triggering uproar from Trinamool Congress MPs. 'The behaviour of TMC MPs is not right… The way Derek O'Brien is behaving is not right,' Rijiju said. He said PM Modi had already replied to the debate in the Lok Sabha for one hour and 42 minutes on Tuesday. 'He (PM) presented all the facts to the nation through the House. The Home Minister (Amit Shah) is capable of replying to the debate,' Rijiju said. He said the government has a collective responsibility, and the Opposition does not get to decide who will speak. As soon as Rijiju finished his statement, the Chair adjourned the House till 4.30 pm. When the House met again at 4.30 pm, Goyal made his statement amid sloganeering by Opposition members. 'The government attaches the utmost importance to protecting and promoting the welfare of our farmers, workers, entrepreneurs, exporters, MSMEs and all sections of industry. We will take all necessary steps to secure and advance our national interest,' he said. The Opposition members continued raising slogans against the SIR and demanding that the Prime Minister come to the House, following which the House was adjourned for the day. In the Lok Sabha, Speaker Om Birla tried to take up Zero Hour but the Opposition members continued to raise slogans. Birla then adjourned the House till 2 pm. When the Lok Sabha reassembled at 2 pm, it could function for only a few minutes. Amid sloganeering by the Opposition members, papers were laid in the House. Samajwadi Party MP Awadhesh Prasad, who was in the Chair, urged the members to go back to their seats. When the protests continued, he adjourned the proceedings till 4 pm. Soon after the House met at 4 pm, Birla called for Goyal to make his statement. As soon as the statement got over, the Opposition MPs rushed to the Well and raised slogans. The Speaker then adjourned the House for the day. The House, meanwhile, congratulated the scientists for the successful launch of the GSLV rocket that placed an Earth observation satellite, jointly developed by ISRO and NASA.

Shukla, Tharoor contradict Rahul's stance on economy
Shashi Tharoor NEW DELHI: On a day when leader of opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi endorsed US President Donald Trump's "dead economy" remark on India, Congress leader Rajeev Shukla refuted Trump's view, saying he was "wrong", even as party Lok Sabha MP Shashi Tharoor held that US's imposition of 25% tariff and penalties may be just a "bargaining tactic" given that trade negotiations are on between the two countries. Another Congress MP, Karti Chidambaram, took a similar line and said, "Trump is not a conventional politician... We should not panic immediately. These are all opening positions in a negotiation." RS MP Rajeev Shukla told ANI in Parliament complex that "Trump saying that the economies of India and Russia are dead, is wrong. The Indian economy is not dead". He went on to add that "economic reforms were introduced when PV Narasimha Rao and Manmohan Singh were there. Atal Bihari Vajpayee took those reforms forward. Manmohan Singh strengthened them in his 10 years. The current govt has also worked on it. Our economic condition is not at all weak". "If someone claims they can finish us economically, it's likely due to a misunderstanding. Trump is living in a delusion. Imposing tariffs is wrong," Shukla added.
