As the Philadelphia 76ers prepare for the upcoming 2025-26 season, now is the time for players to get back in the gym and continuing to add to their respective games. The Sixers certainly want to move on and forget about a miserable 2024-25 season in which injuries decimated the roster.
As the Sixers now move forward with their offseason plans, second-year forward Justin Edwards is back in the gym and putting in work. Following a solid rookie season in which he averaged 10.1 points and shot 36.3% from deep as an undrafted player out of Kentucky, the Philadelphia native is now looking to take another step forward in his game.
Edwards was back in the gym working with trainer Chris Johnson--who also works with Sixers star Tyrese Maxey--as he looks to take his game to another level.
If Edwards can continue to take steps forward as a legitimate 3-point shooter, then the Sixers are going to be in great shape moving forward. He is an athletic player who can defend multiple positions and isn't afraid of anybody. One has to believe the Sixers will find a spot for him in the rotation.

OKTAGON star Losene Keita lands Patricio Freire fight in Paris after signing with UFC
Losene Keita asked, received, and now he has a big test in front of him. The OKTAGON standout told MMA Junkie in July he thought it was time to join the UFC, and the promotion agrees. Keita (16-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC) will battle Bellator legend Patricio Freire (37-8 MMA, 1-1 UFC) in a three-round featherweight bout Sept. 6 at UFC Fight Night 258. The event takes place at Accor Arena. A person with knowledge of the situation confirmed the booking to MMA Junkie following a report from Maitres Fumieres on Instagram. Keita, 27, held both the OKTAGON featherweight and lightweight titles during his 11-fight tenure with the promotion. He has 10 knockouts in 16 professional wins, and his lone loss was due to injury. "It's time," Keita said. "Let's make featherweight great again. I can do both weights actually. I even fought in welterweight before. I fought in lightweight, featherweight. Let's just make fun. Let me knock out people on the biggest platform." Freire, 38, picked up his first UFC win in July when he defeated Dan Ige by unanimous decision. The win came after an unsuccessful promotional debut vs. Yair Rodriguez. The victory was a long-time coming for the 45-fight pro, who spent the majority of his career fighting under the Bellator banner, rewriting the promotion's history book. Ben Shelton 'finally runs out of gas' against Zverev in Cincinnati Open quarterfinal
Ben Shelton's win streak came to an end after nine games on Friday night with a 6-2, 6-2 loss to Alexander Zverev in the ATP Masters 1000 Cincinnati quarterfinal for a second straight year. Zverev punished Shelton's second serve, winning 15 of 19 points (79%). The former Gator still fired 12 aces and won 67% of his 39 first serves, but he only reached one break point to the German's 11, four of which were converted. Relying on his serve wasn't good enough, and it seems to be a pattern against the top three players in the world. Shelton is 0-for-6 against Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner and Medvedev this year. His only win in 14 total games against the trio came in 2023 against Sinner in Shanghai. Still, Shelton is knocking on the door of the top five and has a solid 190-point cushion on Novak Djokovic heading into the US Open. 'Finally ran out of gas,' said Shelton to his 1.2 million followers on Instagram. 'Great couple of weeks, but ready to get after it, New York City.' Grand Slams bring out the best in Shelton, especially this year, and he loves playing in front of a loud crowd on American soil. It will take a lot to catch up to Jack Draper in the No. 5 spot — who has 330 points more than Shelton — but a quarterfinal run or better might do the trick. Qualifiers for the US Open start on Monday, but Shelton doesn't have to play until the following week when the main draw begins. Men's and women's singles first-round games take place between Aug. 24 and 26. Matchups have not been released yet. Betting odds for Sixers' VJ Edgecombe to win 2026 Rookie of the Year
The 2025-26 NBA season continues to inch closer as the schedule has been released and everybody's attention turns to opening night in October. With that being said, now is the time to look at some odds for certain awards concerning the Philadelphia 76ers. While MVP is normally the one to watch for the Sixers due to the presence of Joel Embiid, there is some injury concern there, so this one is focused on Rookie of the Year due to the presence of VJ Edgecombe. FanDuel released their Rookie of the Year odds with Edgecombe ranking fourth in those odds with +1300. He is behind only San Antonio Spurs guard Dylan Harper, Washington Wizards guard Tre Johnson, and Dallas Mavericks forward Cooper Flagg. Edgecombe's chances to win Rookie of the Year will depend on how much the ball will be in his hands. The Sixers have a lot of guards they will rely on more than him--notably Tyrese Maxey and Jared McCain--and numbers are a big part of the ROY voting. Edgecombe might not have the best chance to take home the award, but that will depend on what role he will have in the 2025-26 season.
