The co-main event featured one of the most decorated athletes in combat sports history. Brazil's Cris Cyborg faced Seattle native Precious Harris-McCray in a six-round professional boxing bout. The matchup marked a homecoming of sorts for Cyborg, who made history in San Jose 18 years ago as one half of the first nationally televised women's MMA main event.
Cyborg, a former champion in five major MMA organizations — Strikeforce, UFC, Bellator, Invicta FC, and Grand Prix — is widely regarded as one of the most accomplished female fighters of all time. Since transitioning to professional boxing, she has built a perfect record. Saturday's fight was her fifth appearance in the boxing ring, and she extended her unbeaten streak with a knockout victory at 1:57 of the second round.

Harris-McCray, who trains out of Brooklyn, entered the fight with a 4-1 record and three knockouts. Despite showing early resilience, she was ultimately overpowered by Cyborg's striking pressure and precision. The result marked Cyborg's fifth straight knockout win in boxing, underscoring her versatility and continued dominance in combat sports.
The evening's main event spotlighted two undefeated bantamweights: Bellator veteran Bobby Seronio III (5-0) and Lake Gee (7-0) of Oroville, California. The bout was seen as a key test for both fighters. Gee secured a TKO victory at 3:33 of the second round, handing Seronio the first loss of his professional career and improving his own record to 8-1.
Additional highlights from the main card included:

Future events will continue to follow this model, providing visibility for fighters and access for fans. For Cris Cyborg, Fight Night 3 marked a return to San Jose and reaffirmed her continued impact—not only as a Brazilian trailblazer in women's MMA, but as a rising force in professional boxing.

Jaguars scratch Travis Hunter ahead of preseason game against the Saints
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Travis Hunter was scratched Sunday by the Jacksonville Jaguars before their preseason game against the New Orleans Saints. Hunter, the 2024 Heisman Trophy winner out of Colorado and No. 2 pick in last spring's NFL draft, had missed practice in recent days because of what team officials have described as an upper-body injury. The Jaguars also scratched veteran wide receiver Dyami Brown, although it was not immediately clear why. Hunter and Brown both played in Jacksonville's preseason opener last week, a 31-25 loss to Pittsburgh. Hunter, a rare, two-way player, caught two passes for 9 yards and also participated in eight plays as a defensive back. Brown had 7 yards rushing on an end-around. ___ AP NFL:

Michelle Obama's sage dating advice to her daughters offers a lesson to us all.
The former first lady discussed the modern dating scene on a recent episode of her podcast, and reminded her audience that we are all shaped by our experiences. Michelle Obama has a lot going on in her life, but the former first lady is always foremost a mom, and when her two daughters started to date, she had some meaningful advice to share with them. This topic recently came up on her IMO with Michelle Obama and Craig Robinson podcast, when discussing all of us who are single (at any age!) came up. Obama was chatting about the ever-evolving dating scene, and how difficult it can be to fight the right match. There's a lot of factors that go into meeting someone and dating, and Obama shared that when her daughters Malia and Sasha began dating, she had some important advice to share with them. One piece of advice she gave her daughters, and her podcast audience now, was the importance of open and honest communication when trying to make that connection, and to be open to meeting new people and giving them a chance until they find the right person for them. "I just try to get them to stay open to people," she said on the podcast. "The thing that I did do was date a lot. And so when Barack showed up, I had experiences to compare him against. I knew a lot of (how) I didn't like this. I didn't like that." In a way, dating is like interviewing for a job or finding a new apartment. (Though, of course, meant to be more romantic and personal.) But they are similar in that you don't know what you do or don't want until you are informed by your various experiences, the good and the bad. Everything comes together to bring you to where you are meant to be. " So my whole thing is date. Date a lot, and if you run into a bad date or have a bad experience, move on quickly," she explained. Red Sox infielder Marcelo Mayer to have season-ending right wrist surgery
BOSTON (AP) — Boston Red Sox infielder Marcelo Mayer said Sunday that he'll have season-ending surgery on his right wrist. The 22-year-old Mayer injured the wrist in late July, got an injection to try and come back, but decided to have surgery. He said he has a tear that hadn't improved with the anti-inflammatory injection. 'I knew definitely that it was going to be on the table,' he said, sitting in the Red Sox dugout at Fenway Park before they faced Miami in the series finale. 'As an athlete and somebody that loves this game so much, all I want to do is play and be out there every single day, especially when you're in the big leagues and the playoffs are so important,' he said. 'The way that my wrist is right now, there's just no way to come back and play. It made the decision pretty easy to have the surgery.' Drafted fourth overall in 2021, Mayer was called up in late May. A natural shortstop, he played mostly third base, batting .228 with four homers and 10 RBIs in 44 games. 'The shot wasn't working. It's a three-month recovery, He should be fine if everything goes well for spring training,' Red Sox manager Alex Cora said. 'He's a big part of the future of this organization, just get him right, get him ready and see what happens in the future.' Cora said he knew things weren't going well after Mayer played catch on Thursday's day off. 'He didn't sound too positive about it. 'My swing is not right,''' Cora said Mayer told him. Mayer also knew that surgery was the best option. 'Yeah, gave it my all. Obviously with options given, I could have had surgery when I first injured it or get the shot,' he said. 'I tried everything I could with the slight chance to come back and play.' He also missed the final two months in the minors last season with a shoulder injury and didn't play after July 31. ___ AP MLB:
