Heads up, drivers! Major road near Kennesaw Mountain to be closed for months
Commuters and visitors to Kennesaw Mountain will have to find a detour.

The Stilesboro Road project will happen in three phases. The first was supposed to start on Tuesday, but was pushed back to Thursday.
Traffic backs up on Stilesboro Road each morning near Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park.
It will shut down from Gilbert Road to Old Mountain Road.
'It's going to be pretty bad,' one driver told Channel 2's Steve Gehlbach.
'With everybody working, school, all that, it's definitely going to cause issues,' another driver said.
The detours will be on Barrett Parkway to Old Highway 41, Cobb Parkway or going around to the south on Burnt Hickory to get to Whitlock Ave through Marietta.
'To give the public some time to prepare for this closure, we have delayed that closure to Thursday, May 8th,' said Cole Blackwell.

Blackwell is the general manager for Cobb County-Marietta Water Authority. He says crews are replacing an aging, 30-inch pipe with a new, 12-inch watermain as the utility tries to re-route lines around the national park.
'The pipeline along Stilesboro Road is over 60 years old. It's time to replace the pipe,' he said.
Crews will also relocate other infrastructure to make way for new roundabouts at Old Hwy 41 and Kennesaw Ave. But that means headaches for drivers as a connection to and from West Cobb is closed.
The first phase will be completed in early August, then move up to a section up to the visitor's center with the final piece finished sometime this fall from the park entrance to Old Hwy 41.
'Our goal is to maintain access to the visitor's center, to the park, 100% through this project,' Blackwell said.
Once utility work on Stilesboro Road is done, look for closures on Old Hwy 41 with construction of those roundabouts to start sometime in summer 2026.

Thousands pack The Battery as fans get ready for MLB All-Star game
While thousands pack The Battery, enjoying all the festivities before the MLB All-Star Game, Cobb County DOT crews and police are monitoring the traffic, making sure everything runs smoothly. With five parking decks to choose from and more beyond the battery, getting to each All-Star Game event hasn't been too challenging for families we spoke with. Truist Park, Cobb County prepare for MLB All-Star Game and fans
Nearly 100,000 people will be in metro Atlanta this weekend. For the first time in a quarter century, the Atlanta braves are getting ready to host the Major League Baseball All-Star Game. The All-Star game is Tuesday. That's the main event. Advertisement But the first fan event starts Friday, a block party at The Battery that starts at 11 a.m. A welcome event at the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport starts at noon. Channel 2's Courtney Francisco saw crews bringing in gear all around the first base gate Wednesday afternoon. A team has been working for years to plan this event. A special chef is preparing a unique menu for fans. There will be a series of events all over metro Atlanta, leading up to the All-Star Game, from Georgia Tech near the old Turner Field to the Cobb Galleria. Advertisement Crowds will need security, so you'll notice an increase in local, state and federal officers on the ground with various operational centers around The Battery. Firefighters and paramedics will be here to help anyone with any health issues. Many people moving around and events each day means traffic delays. So the director of Cobb County's Department of Transportation spoke about managing that. 'We will have staff on sight monitoring traffic conditions making adjustments in real time as well as traffic control crews that are able to be out, boots on the ground, and make modifications to the roadways as needed as we go,' said Drew Raessler, Cobb County Department of Transportation. St. Marys Bridge to close daily beginning Monday
The Florida Department of Transportation is warning drivers to prepare for detours, with full daytime closures of the St. Marys Bridge planned in June. >>> STREAM ACTION NEWS JAX LIVE <<< U.S. 17 over the St. Marys River will be completely inaccessible to drivers for several hours a day from Monday, June 16 to Thursday, June 19.
