Brazil World Cup winner Jair da Costa dies
Rio De Janeiro, Apr 27 (UNI) Jair da Costa, a member of the Brazil squad that won the 1962 FIFA World Cup, has died at the age of 84, the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) said on Saturday.
A forward who began his professional career with Sao Paulo-based club Portuguesa, Jair made a name for himself at Inter Milan, where he won four Italian Serie A titles, two European Cups and two Intercontinental Cups over two spells.
"The CBF deeply regrets the death of Jair, former right winger for the Brazilian national team, Portuguesa, and idol of clubs such as Inter Milan and Roma," the entity said in a statement. "He passed away this Saturday at the age of 84, in Osasco, Sao Paulo."
It added that all games in Brazilian football's four national divisions would observe a minute's silence before kickoff on Sunday.
Portuguesa, with whom Jair played from 1960 to 1962, also published a statement on social media in which it paid tribute to "one of the legends of our club".
"Jair was discovered at [Portuguesa] and ... was also one of the first Brazilians to play in Europe. Our condolences to his family and friends," it said.
In addition to his time at Portuguesa and Inter Milan, Jair had spells at Roma, Santos and Windsor Star.
He earned one international cap and was an unused member of the Brazil squad that triumphed at the 1962 World Cup in Chile.

The feat is a testament to Pranav's sheer pace and potential, putting him at the forefront of India's young fast bowlers. Pranav's fast bowling development is also being guided by top mentors. He trained under Australian great Glenn McGrath at the MRF Pace Foundation and impressed everyone by clocking 139 kmph at just 16 years of age. His progress has continued apace. MRF Pace Foundation head coach M Senthilnathan has high hopes from the young pacer. With his natural pace and growing experience, many believe that Pranav could cross the 150 kmph milestone very soon - a rare feat for any young Indian bowler. Soccer-Italy plans to scrap no single buyer rule in Serie A TV rights sale
MILAN, - Italy plans to remove a ban on Italy's Serie A top flight soccer league selling its domestic broadcast rights to a single buyer, a draft government bill seen by Reuters showed, marking a major overhaul of media rules for live sports events. Italy introduced the "no single buyer rule" to avoid creating a dominant player in the pay-TV sector in 2008, when it approved a law entrusting sport leagues to collectively sell the rights to screen live matches. Broadcasting rights are the main revenue source for Serie A clubs but they lag behind those of other major European national leagues. Under existing contracts expiring in the 2028-29 season, Serie A earns some 900 million euros annually from sport streaming service DAZN and pay-TV firm Sky, with the former screening all of the games and Sky co-broadcasting some of them. That sum is roughly half of the annual domestic broadcasting revenue of England's Premier League, which has a 'no single buyer rule' in place. Germany's Bundesliga, which last year removed its 'no single buyer rule', pockets some 1.1 billion euros annually from domestic broadcasting licences, according to data compiled by UEFA. The Italian government also plans to introduce changes in the way Serie A distributes the TV revenue among clubs, raising to "above 50%" from the current 50% the sum which must be equally split among all clubs, the draft bill showed. Clubs which develop and field young Italian players will be also granted additional revenue.
