Louis Tomlinson admits being 'very proud' of Harry Styles in rare comment
Louis Tomlinson has revealed he's "very proud" of his former bandmate Harry Styles. The two found fame as one-fifth of One Direction back in 2010, after former Pussycat Dolls star Nicole Scherzinger spearheaded the decision to create the band on The X Factor.
Despite finishing the show in third place, the band, consisting of Louis, 33, Harry, 31, Niall Horan, 31, Zayn Malik, 32, and the late Liam Payne, 31, they went on to find fame across the globe and became one of the biggest selling boybands of all time.
For five years, the band toured the globe, racked up countless Number 1 records and dozens of awards before making the decision to start a hiatus. However, just one year later, it emerged that their hiatus had turned into a permanent split.
But since then, all five members have gone on to carve out successful solo careers. Now, Doncaster-born Louis has silenced speculation that he has become distant from his bandmates as he opened up about his bond with Cheshire's Harry. Speaking on a new podcast, he said he's in regular contact.
"I do still know him," he said on the Yoto Daily Soccer Aid Special podcast. Louis went on to say: "I used to be in a band with him, we're not in a band anymore so that's what happens. But yeah, still good friends with him.
"Still very, very proud of him, taking over the world, definitely." Fans have since reacted to the sweet admission, with one writing: "Oh God, that's so cute." A second went on to add: "My heart just exploded." "I'm sobbing so f***ng hard. Nobody speak to me. This is the best day ever," exclaimed a third.
Meanwhile, a fourth added: "Today just became the best day of my life." Since launching their solo careers, Louis has gone on to release two studio albums, Walls, which charted at Number Four in 2020, as well as Faith in the Future, which saw him take Number One in November 2022.
Elsewhere, Harry's debut album charted at Number One, with his second taking the second spot, and his third solo album, Harry's House, hitting the top spot across the globe. He's also bagged an impressive six BRIT Awards and three solo Grammy Awards – despite being nominated nine times.
Louis' comments come just days before he'll walk out onto the pitch at Old Trafford as part of Soccer Aid for UNICEF. The musician will play alongside the likes of Tom Grennan, Roman Kemp, Toni Duggan, Jill Scott, Alex Brooker, Angryginge and James Nelson-Joyce.
Speaking about taking part in the match, Louis told TV Week: "It's the only real opportunity you get to play in a football game of that magnitude if you're not a professional footballer. So it's very exciting for a football fan, and coupled with all the good that the charity has done over the past two decades, it's remarkable really."
But there's one moment that sticks out in Louis's head, playing against Niall in the 2016 game. He said: "I played against my One Direction bandmate Niall Horan in 2016. I'm the kind of guy who will rub it in your face when I win. So I kind of enjoyed having that over Niall for a couple of years!"
Louis' younger sisters, twins Daisy and Phoebe, will be on hand to offer their support in the stands. Speaking previously to the Mirror, Phoebe, said: "Obviously, with Louis playing, I've only attended once, but it was really fun. Super excited, Louis playing just makes it more interesting and a bit more funny as well."
Daisy commented: "I wouldn't say I feel as nervous seeing him play football than sing but I probably should. He sings more than he plays football but I heard he's been putting in the graft in training so I shouldn't feel too nervous on the day."
The match takes place on Sunday 15th of June at Old Trafford, Manchester, and will air on ITV1 and ITVX.

British artist hails importance of paint practice pioneered by Constable
Powell, 35, was so inspired by the colours and light on the archipelago off the Cornish coast during a visit in May that she packed much of her Dartmoor studio into a shipping container to relocate for the summer. That container, holding more than 100 litres of paint, canvases, her trusty wooden easel, ladder and chairs, as well as a large supply of PG Tips teabags and kettle, went by boat from Penzance to St Mary's island. The Liverpool-born artist then followed – painting so prolifically that she ran out of canvases and had to use local sailcloth and pieces of wood from a nearby town hall renovation instead. Powell has painted on the five inhabited islands of Scilly (Ben Birchall/PA) Her dedication to working en plein air – a term referring to the practice of painting entire pieces outdoors – follows that of landscape artist John Constable, who is said to have pioneered the approach in Britain in around 1813. Other notable artists who painted outdoors include Claude Monet, Camille Pissarro and Pierre-Auguste Renoir. Powell also highlighted the work of the Newlyn school – led by artists Stanhope Forbes and Frank Bramley – who settled in the Cornish fishing towns of Newlyn and St Ives in the 1880s. 'There is a long standing tradition of artists painting in St Ives and Penzance because of the light,' she said. 'I've always painted there but thought: 'What happens if I go to the Isles of Scilly? Surely the light is brighter there.' And it is. Powell's works, in all shapes and sizes, are bright and colourful (Ben Birchall/PA) 'It's just another level of beautiful light here. Everything glows and is almost electric – it looks lit up from within.' Visitors are not permitted to bring cars onto the Isles of Scilly, so Powell and her two assistants use golf carts, bicycles with trailers and boats to travel around with her equipment. They carry a large wicker basket full of paints and brushes, her full-size wooden easel, and canvases measuring 150cm tall and wide. Sea water and sand unintentionally become part of the artworks as Powell works in all weathers, from storms with rain and lightning to bright sunshine, and at all times of day including in the pitch dark. Seawater and sand become parts of Powell's work as she paints outside in all weathers (Ben Birchall/PA) 'It's a very normal thing when you're painting en plein air to have grass or similar on your pieces – you don't fight the elements,' she said. 'There is a transfer of energy from the elements, so if you're painting in a storm your work will pick up that energy in a brush stroke, mark-making way. 'That's why it's so important to be at the forefront and outside. Everything gets flatter indoors. Colours change really easily. 'If you're looking at something through a photograph or on a screen, it isn't the same. It is so much better to see it in real life.' Powell has transformed a former workshop at Salakee Farm on St Mary's island into a studio which is open to the public and filled with dozens of artworks, created since her arrival in early August. These range from floral pieces including 'teddy bear' sunflowers – famously painted by Van Gogh – to landscapes, wildlife including puffins painted on a boat safari, and harbour scenes around the islands. She has travelled across the five inhabited islands of Scilly, from St Mary's to Tresco, St Martin's, St Agnes and Bryher. Powell paints in boats as she travels around the islands (Ben Birchall/PA) 'Everything is much more wild so you really get to experience the elements and everything passes quickly, you can have five weathers in a day which is so good for painting,' the artist added. Powell is one of a growing number of people to visit the archipelago. The Isles of Scilly Steamship Group, which operates the Scillonian III passenger ferry as well as Skybus flights from Land's End, Newquay and Exeter airports, has seen a 4.9% increase on overall passenger figures compared to last year. There has also been a 10.4% increase in day trip bookings. Members of the public often talk to Powell as she paints outside (Ben Birchall/PA) Powell first painted en plein air at the age of seven, on a trip to the fishing village of Collioure in France, following the death of her father. She used his watercolour set and brushes to recreate Henri Matisse's 1905 piece 'View of Collioure (The Tower)' from her holiday flat's balcony. 'As we were grieving as a family, I taught myself to draw the church that Matisse had drawn and it genuinely made Mum so happy that I carried on,' Powell added. 'There is a hurry to enjoy my life, there is an urgency and a realisation that life is really short. I want to get it all down because I love painting so much. It's hard to think you only get a certain amount of time to do it.' Her previous work has included expeditions to the Hebrides and the Norwegian arctic, as well as her series The Greenhouse of Commons in which she painted politicians including Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer as plants.

Harry Styles wears an anxiety t-shirt advertising Xanax as he enjoys a low-key stroll through London's Hampstead Heath
Harry Styles enjoyed a low-key stroll through London wearing a t-shirt advertising Xanax. The singer, 31, was spotted going for an evening walk at Hampstead Heath near his home on Thursday. Harry took fashion tips from Liam Gallagher as he stepped out in a beige bucket hat fit for an Oasis concert for the stroll. He also made a statement in a graphic t-shirt, which read: 'Anxiety has many faces - but there is only one Xanax.' Harry completed the look with a blue overcoat, a pair of relaxed wide-leg jeans and white trainers. The former One Direction star accessorised with a yellow tote bag and a pair of brown sport sunglasses. It comes after Harry was spotted soaking up the sights in Italy with a new female companion, weeks after he enjoyed a steamy smooch with Ella Kenny at Glastonbury. Harry showed off his favourite spots in Vatican City and Rome to Belgian-Congolese designer Kim Mupangilai, who has previously appeared on the cover of high-end interior magazines. Harry was spotted wandering about St Peter's Basilica and through the back streets of Rome while carrying a bottle of wine with Kim. In pictures obtained by The Sun, the former One Direction star cut a smart figure layering a blue shirt over a white T-shirt. Sources also told the publication that Harry has fallen in love with the country, and has been making the most of his summer break by enjoying trips around Europe. A source told the publication: 'Harry loves nothing more than showing people his favourite spots in Italy. 'He also loves art and Kim has been a great source of inspiration.' Kim, who grew up in Antwerp, Belgium, has shared pictures on her Instagram of The Loggia Of Cupid And Psyche — a mural depicting a love affair — at the Villa Farnesina in Rome. Harry took fashion tips from Liam Gallagher as he stepped out in a beige bucket hat fit for an Oasis concert for the stroll She also posted snaps of red peppers drying on a rooftop in Ravello on Italy's Amalfi Coast. Daily Mail have contacted Harry's representatives for comment. It comes as Harry is rumoured to have fallen in love with the small Italian village of Civita di Bagnoregio where he spent the pandemic learning Italian and sign language. During his final Love On Tour show in Reggio Emilia, Italy, in 2023, Harry thanked 120,000 fans in Italian. Speaking in their language, he said: 'The last two years of my life have been a wonderful gift and it is truly very special to end my tour here, in a country that has a special place in my heart.' Harry was recently spotted snogging a mystery woman at Glastonbury, who has since been named as Ella Kenny. The singer partied into the early hours with pals at Worthy Farm, where he was seen getting very close to the 28-year-old. Ella is a producer who has worked at a studio in London for around three years, producing 'crossplatform content' for businesses such as record companies and fashion brands. She has worked alongside Nia Archives, as well as produced music videos for artists such as Rachel Chinouriri, and Slow Thai, as well as Anne-Marie and Aitch's huge hit PSYCHO.

Lewis Capaldi was 'living a life he couldn't afford' before comeback
Lewis Capaldi has said before his comeback that he was 'living a lifestyle he couldn't afford'. The singer triumphantly returned to the stage in June, performing a surprise set on Glastonbury's Pyramid stage two years after being unable to finish on the same stage. He has since released a new single and announced a tour, including four dates in Scotland in September. During an interview on Heart Breakfast, the 28-year-old said he was 'never intending' to end his 734-day career break before joking that he was living a lifestyle he 'couldn't afford'. 'I didn't know if I would come back to begin with', he said on Friday. 'But a year in, I realised that I'm living a lifestyle that I can't afford. 'But I got the itch, and I started writing again, and I feel good. 'When that sort of started creeping up on my mind, I then had the idea that it would be amazing to come back at Glastonbury. But when I came off stage at the first Glastonbury, no, I didn't have any inkling that I would come back. 'But when it came down to discussing coming back and the best way to do that, it was definitely like 'this will be incredible.' The Bathgate-born singer has since become the latest ambassador for a global footwear brand, teamed up with BetterHelp to give away 734,000 free hours of therapy, and announced a UK tour, which sold out in minutes. It's a far sight away from his comeback performance, before which he didn't want his parents or managers 'anywhere near' his dressing room. 'No, do you know what it's funny, I actually wanted no one', he added. 'Even the band my mum and dad. 'I'd say even band managers and all that, they were backstage in a different area. But for the dressing room and stuff, I didn't want them anywhere near us. Not because they're going to put bad juju on me, it was more that I can really feel people's nervous energy. 'It was terrifying, but I knew I was going to be able to do it.'
