HAL, BEL, Bharat Dynamics: Defence Stocks Surge After Reports Of India-US Strategic Framework
Defence shares, such as Hindustan Aeronautics, Bharat Electronics, and Bharat Dynamics, were rising in trade on Thursday amid reports that India and the US have agreed on a defence framework. The 10-year framework will see a strategic partnership between the two countries for sharing defence know-how and an increased supply of defence equipment.
The decision on the defence framework was mentioned in a Pentagon statement that was released on Wednesday, a day after Singh and US Defence Secretary Hegseth held a phone conversation.
'Secretary Hegseth and Minister Singh agreed to sign the next 10-year US-India Defence Framework when they next meet this year," it said.
It said the two sides discussed pending major US defence sales to India and the imperative of close defence industrial cooperation between the two countries.
'Secretary Hegseth emphasised the priority the United States places on India as its key defence partner in South Asia," the Pentagon said.
It said the two leaders reviewed the 'considerable progress" both countries have made toward achieving the defence goals set out in the February 2025 joint statement by President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
'The two discussed pending major US defence sales to India and the imperative of close defence industrial cooperation between the two countries," the Pentagon readout said without providing further details.
In the phone conversation on Tuesday, Singh urged Hegseth to expedite the delivery of GE F404 engines to power the Tejas Light Combat Aircraft, people familiar with the matter said.
Singh also pitched for early finalisation of a proposed deal between Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) and US defence major GE Aerospace for joint production of F414 jet engines in India, they said.
The delay in the supply of F404 engines by GE Aerospace has resulted in HAL missing the deadline to supply Tejas Mark 1A aircraft to the Indian Air Force.

The United States on Saturday blamed Hamas for an attack that injured two American aid workers from the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation at a food distribution site in Gaza. The US- and Israeli-backed GHF said in a statement that the injured Americans were receiving medical treatment and were in a stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries. The Israeli military earlier accused what it called 'terrorist organisations' of sabotaging the distribution of aid in Gaza. GHF, which began distributing aid in Gaza in May, employs private US military contractors to provide security at their sites. Gaza has seen an escalation in violence as efforts continue to reach a ceasefire agreement. Hamas on Friday said it had responded positively to a US-brokered deal and was prepared to enter talks. It has also caused a hunger crisis, internally displaced Gaza's entire population and prompted accusations of genocide and war crimes. Israel denies the accusations.

Mathura man supplied drones to Naxals to keep eye on security forces: NIA
A Mathura man, who was arrested in Delhi on June 29 by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for his links with the banned CPI (Maoist), supplied drones to Naxalites and trained them to operate the equipment and keep watch on security forces' activities in the forest areas of Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha, NIA officials privy to the investigation confirmed. For representation only During interrogation, the man identified as Vishal Singh revealed he had been supplying drones and providing operational training in dense forests for the past seven years, the officials said. The officials confirmed that Vishal Singh, the key accused in the revival of a CPI (Maoist) Northern Region Bureau (NRB), had delivered drones to leaders of the banned outfit in the Chhakarbanda- Pachrukhiya forest area of Bihar. Singh had imparted technical training to cadres of CPI (Maoist) and had also attended meetings with its central committee members deep in the forest areas of Bihar in 2019, the officials further said. NIA officials stated that Vishal Singh acted as a clandestine service provider, largely maintaining a normal life in Delhi. They added that Singh kept abreast of the latest technology while in the national capital and improvised it for the benefit of Naxalite groups operating in dense forest areas. The NIA is investigating the case and probing the extent of Vishal Singh's involvement with the CPI (Maoist). The agency is also examining the digital evidence seized during search operations to uncover more details about the organisation's activities and plans. The arrest highlights the ongoing efforts of the NIA to dismantle operations of banned terrorist organizations in the country. The NIA had confirmed that the agency seized digital devices, including hard drives, pen drives and mobile phones, as well as other incriminating material, during a search at Singh's West Delhi house. In August 2024, the NIA had arrested another accused, Ajay Singhal alias Aman, who was in charge of the Haryana and Punjab state organising committee of CPI (Maoist). The case relates to the terrorist organisation's conspiracy to revive its waning influence in the Northern Regional Bureau (NRB) area, officials said.

Muharram: 5k volunteers to assist cops
Indore: Ahead of Muharram, Indore police and the local administration have taken extensive measures to ensure peace and maintain law and order on Sunday. For the first time, approximately 5,000 volunteers from the minority community will join a force of around 3,500 police personnel to manage the situation. As part of these arrangements, Dhobi Ghat Maidan has been temporarily separated by erecting tin-shed barricades between two places of worship. Despite protests from Hindu organisations, Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) has granted permission for a three-day fair to be held on three acres of land at Dhobi Ghat Maidan, charging the organising committee Rs 1 lakh. This marks the first time the minority community sought the civic body's permission for the Muharram event, as the IMC secured ownership of the ground from the court last year. The administration has installed a tin-shed partition, delineating the space for the Muharram event and separating it from the remaining land around the Hanuman Temple. Temporary police outposts are already established at both ends of the partitioned area, and additional forces of around 500 security personnel will be deployed to maintain order. Indore additional police commissioner Amit Singh confirmed the deployment of an extra 1,000 personnel, bringing the total force on the ground to approximately 3,500, including officers from all police stations. Flag marches will be conducted in sensitive and important areas, while drones will provide close monitoring. "Additional vehicles have been made available for regular patrolling, and command and control centres have been erected at strategic places to keep a round-the-clock watch on every activity," Singh stated. He also mentioned that CCTV cameras have been installed at strategic locations, and regular checks are being conducted using modified Hand Held Metal Detectors (HHMD). Additionally, stoppers have been placed at the entry and exit points of sensitive streets. Singh said that a significant new initiative involves engaging around 5,000 volunteers from the minority community for the first time. These volunteers have been provided with T-shirts, whistles, and caps for easy identification and will assist police, including plainclothes officers, within the Muharram fair area. DJs have been instructed not to play objectionable music and to adhere strictly to volume and time deadlines. To ensure uninterrupted vigilance during potential power cuts, patrolling parties have also been equipped with torches, he said. "The 48 hours of deployment of the forces, in shifts, as part of the execution of this plan will start from Saturday night," he said, adding that volunteers from the majority community will also assist the force at the selected locations.
