In a major leap for India's defense capabilities, work is now underway on BrahMos 2.0, a next-generation version of the powerful BrahMos missile, which is already among the most advanced in India's arsenal.

Weighing around 1,300 kg, it is expected to allow the Sukhoi to carry up to four missiles and India's Tejas fighter to carry two.
One of the most significant advancements is BrahMos 2.0, a hypersonic missile with a projected speed of Mach 6 — approximately 7,400 km/h. At this velocity, the missile will cover over 2 km every second, doubling the current BrahMos speed and drastically reducing enemy response time. For context, the distance from Delhi to Pakistan's Nur Khan Airbase in Rawalpindi — about 640 km — could be covered in just over five minutes, leaving adversaries with virtually no time to react.
Submarine-Launched BrahMos
India is also testing a submarine-launched version of BrahMos, enabling underwater launches without exposing the launch platform. Only six countries globally possess such technology. Once operational, Indian submarines would be able to strike targets deep within enemy territory without nearing their coastline.
Initially, only 7% of the BrahMos missiles were manufactured in India. However, that number has now risen to 75%, intending to soon reach 84%, thanks to increased domestic production. Final testing on some components is underway, after which BrahMos could be declared a fully indigenous system.
The S-400 Edge
Alongside BrahMos, another key asset strengthening India's defense is the S-400 air defense system. India had signed a deal with Russia for five squadrons, three of which are already operational along Indian borders. The fourth squadron is expected by February 2026, and the fifth squadron by August 2026.
During Operation Sindoor, the S-400 system played a crucial role in Indian air defense. Its delivery was delayed due to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.
Meanwhile, reports from Russia claim that an S-400 missile system shot down a US-supplied F-16 fighter jet in Ukraine. The missile team involved was awarded a cash prize of approximately Rs. 1.5 crore.

Deendayal's ‘integral humanism' behind Modi govt's welfare measures: Nadda
The Narendra Modi government has empowered women, farmers and marginalised sections of society by taking various measures for them, while others only talked about doing so, BJP president and Union Minister J P Nadda said on Sunday. From putting the country on the path of economic progress to lifting 25 crore people above the poverty line, the government under PM Narendra Modi's leadership has launched varioius welfare schemes for all sections, drawing inspiration from Jana Sangh ideologue Deendayal Upadhyaya's idea of 'integral humanism', Nadda said. The BJP chief was addressing the valedictory session of a two-day conclave to commemorate 60 years of Upadhyaya's lectures on integral humanism. 'Our traditions were not created in two days; they are a result of experiences of thousands of years,' he said, stressing the need to expound Indian economic thought. Nadda said that India as a country of 140 crore people cannot be centralised. 'We have to be a decentralised system,' he said. 'World standards cannot be the standards we have to adhere to; we have to have our Indian standards,' he said. He said this might not have seemed possible in Upadhyaya's time, but under PM Modi's leadership every parameter was being prepared around Indian standards. He said Upadhyaya at that time advocated 'swadeshi' and India could say today that self-reliance is the order of the times. 'We were even purchasing idols of Ganesh ji from China. Today, we are third in the toy industry,' Nadda said. 'We are also third in the automobile market.' He said that India had made strides in defence production too. 'We witnessed the success of Operation Sindoor and that of the BrahMos (missiles) as well. Our defence production has reached `1.3 crore,' he said. Under PM Modi, India had established an economic model aligning 'integral humanism; with 'Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas', he said. Recalling Upadhyaya's message that the economy was not assessed from the person on the top of the ladder but the one at its bottom, Nadda said, 'We have taken inspiration from his Antyodaya concept (uplifting the poorest).' Nadda underlined that Upadhyaya was the inspiration for the free gas cylinder scheme — PM Ujjwala Yojana — for women. He said Swachh Bharat Mission and welfare schemes for farmers launched by the PM were also inspired by Upadhyaya. He said the government has provided cooking gas connections to more than 10 crore households, constructed 12 crore toilets and built four crore pukka houses. There is a need to understand how the government under Modi's leadership has empowered women, farmers and the marginalised sections of society, and brought them into the mainstream, he said. ‘UP emerges as backbone of India's defence sector'
Lucknow: Crediting the Modi-Yogi leadership for transforming the state into a hub of military manufacturing and exports, Sarojininagar MLA Rajeshwar Singh on Sunday said that Uttar Pradesh is emerging as the backbone of India's defence sector. Sharing insights on platform X, Singh said, "From rifles to rockets, UP is forging India's defence future. Our state is now a symbol of self-reliance, innovation, and global impact." The state hosts seven ordnance factories, three HAL units, and two Indo-Russian ventures — the AK-203 rifle unit in Amethi and the BrahMos missile facility in Lucknow. Six Defence Corridor nodes, three testing beds, South Asia's largest arms complex (Adani Defence, Kanpur), and the country's first strategic materials complex (PTC Industries, Lucknow) further underline UP's strategic importance. Global players like MKU Limited and Lohia Aerospace from Kanpur export to over 100 countries, reinforcing UP's position in the international defence supply chain. Singh hailed this as a hallmark of Aatmanirbhar Bharat , saying, "Under PM Modi and CM Yogi, UP is not only securing India but also generating jobs, driving innovation, and placing the state on the global defence map."

34 Dead In Floods, Landslides In Northeast, 19 Districts Hit In Assam
Guwahati: At least 34 people have died in floods and landslides in the northeastern states -- Assam, Manipur, Tripura, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh and others -- over the last three days. The Air Force and the Assam Rifles were called in for the flood rescue operations today. More than 1,200 tourists have been stranded in north was scheduled for Sunday, but fresh landslides came in the way. Eight tourists who went missing on May 29 after their vehicle plunged into the Teesta River at Munshithang, ae yet to be traced. In Meghalaya, 10 districts have been affected by flash floods and landslides. More than 10,000 people have been affected by flash floods in Tripura. In Assam, 764 villages across 19 districts have been hit in flash floods, affecting 3.6 lakh people. With two more deaths today, the toll of flood and landslides in Assam have gone up to 10. The Bramhaputra river is flowing above the danger mark in Dibrugarh, Neematighat amid other places. Five other rivers are flowing above the danger levels. More than 10,000 people have been moved to relief camps. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has assured of every possible help to the flood-hit areas. He has spoken to the Chief Ministers of Assam, Sikkim, and Arunachal Pradesh and the Governor of Manipur. "Spoke with the Chief Ministers of Assam, Sikkim, and Arunachal Pradesh and the Governor of Manipur in the wake of ongoing heavy rainfall in their states. Also assured them of every possible help to tackle any situation. The Modi government stands like a rock in support of the people of the Northeast," Mr Shah posted on X.
