34 Dead In Floods, Landslides In Northeast, 19 Districts Hit In Assam

At least 34 people have died in floods and landslides in the northeastern states -- Assam, Manipur, Tripura, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh and others -- over the last three days.
The Air Force and the Assam Rifles were called in for the flood rescue operations today.
More than 1,200 tourists have been stranded in north Sikkim.Evacuation was scheduled for Sunday, but fresh landslides came in the way. Eight tourists who went missing on May 29 after their vehicle plunged into the Teesta River at Munshithang, ae yet to be traced.
In Meghalaya, 10 districts have been affected by flash floods and landslides. More than 10,000 people have been affected by flash floods in Tripura.
In Assam, 764 villages across 19 districts have been hit in flash floods, affecting 3.6 lakh people. With two more deaths today, the toll of flood and landslides in Assam have gone up to 10.
The Bramhaputra river is flowing above the danger mark in Dibrugarh, Neematighat amid other places. Five other rivers are flowing above the danger levels.
More than 10,000 people have been moved to relief camps.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah has assured of every possible help to the flood-hit areas. He has spoken to the Chief Ministers of Assam, Sikkim, and Arunachal Pradesh and the Governor of Manipur.
"Spoke with the Chief Ministers of Assam, Sikkim, and Arunachal Pradesh and the Governor of Manipur in the wake of ongoing heavy rainfall in their states. Also assured them of every possible help to tackle any situation. The Modi government stands like a rock in support of the people of the Northeast," Mr Shah posted on X.
Assam Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah said the state government has announced Rs 4 lakh compensation to the families of victims.

PM to inaugurate Chenab rail bridge NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the world's highest railway bridge, built over the Chenab River in Reasi district on June 6. Union minister Jitendra Singh confirmed this on Tuesday. Along with the bridge, the Prime Minister will also launch the Katra-Srinagar Vande Bharat train service. In a post on X, Jitendra Singh wrote: "Prime Minister Narendra Modi to inaugurate the Chenab Bridge on 6th June... History in the making. Just 3 days to go! The mighty Chenab Bridge, the world's highest railway bridge, stands tall in Jammu and Kashmir..." The Chenab railway bridge, now officially part of the Katra to Sangaldan rail section, stands as the world's highest railway arch bridge. This will be the first-ever train link connecting the Kashmir Valley with the rest of India. The bridge towers 359 meters above the Chenab River, surpassing even the Eiffel Tower in height. For the first time, Kashmir will be directly linked to the rest of India via rail. This bridge is a key component of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project, which spans 272 kilometers and includes 36 tunnels totaling 119 kilometers and nearly 1,000 bridges. The terrain's complexity and the region's seismic sensitivity posed major engineering challenges, but Indian engineers successfully executed this ambitious project, a feat many once deemed impossible. Railway officials highlighted the Chenab Bridge's structural strength, mentioning that it can withstand wind speeds over 250 km/h and was built using about 30,000 metric tons of steel. One foundation, known as S20, is so massive it covers nearly one-third of a football field, specifying the scale and vision behind the structure. The entire USBRL project represents not just engineering excellence but also New India's resolve and determination. With electric engines powered by specially designed overhead equipment (OHE) and advanced tunnel safety systems, the railway line is built for resilience and long-term service. The train service was earlier planned to begin on April 19 but was postponed after cancellation of PM Modi's visit due to bad weather. CM Devendra Fadnavis directs all departments to prepare vision document for 'Viksit Maharashtra 2047'
Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], June 3 (ANI): Maharashtra Government's Planning Department has issued a resolution for all its departments, directing them to prepare a vision document for the subject 'Viksit Maharashtra 2047 vision document.' This will be on the lines of the Union Government's scheme of Viksit Bharat 2047 as outlined by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has set a 150-day time period from May 6 to October 2, to prepare the document, which will primarily focus on a phase-wise vision. The first phase includes a long-term vision or plan for developed Maharashtra by 2047. The midterm phase includes vision or plans to prepare a plan for Maharashtra 2035, when state will complete its 75 years of its foundation. The third phase includes short term plan to prepare a vision document for October 2029, when the present government will complete its five years term. Earlier in May, Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired the 10th Governing Council Meeting of NITI Aayog at Bharat Mandapam where he said that all the states should work together to make India a developed country and achieve the vision of a 'Viksit Bharat' by 2047. Prime Minister Modi said that we should commit to developing every state, every city, and every village, and only then would we be able to make the country a Viksit Bharat. The meeting was attended by Chief Ministers and Lieutenant Governors, representing 24 states and seven Union Territories. This year, the theme for the meeting was 'Viksit Rajya for Viksit Bharat@2047'. The meeting commenced with a minute of silence in remembrance of the victims of the Pahalgam terrorist attack. The Prime Minister also asked NITI Aayog to study the suggestions of States and UTs made during the meeting. He said the 10th Governing Council Meeting of NITI Aayog is a milestone of its 10 years of journey which defines and outlines the vision for 2047. PM Modi observed that the Governing Council Meetings have helped in nation building and it has emerged as a platform for joint action and shared aspirations. IATA has no concerns with India's aviation safety and infrastructure readiness
New Delhi [India], June 3 (ANI): Nick Careen, IATA's Senior Vice President, Operations, Safety and Security, on Tuesday highlighted that the Indian aviation market has not faced any concerns in terms of operational safety and infrastructure readiness. While speaking to ANI, the International Air Transport Association's (IATA) vice president said, 'Specific to this market, we don't have any real have not seen any major problems or any major concerns... With PM Modi's presence at the appropriate level and when the right people are involved, you get good outcomes.' Careen commented about an incident involving IndiGo flight 6E 2142, saying, 'The learning from that (incident) would involve better coordination. I am sure that's something that would be under consideration. I am 100% confident about it' IndiGo flight 6E 2142, flying from Delhi to Srinagar on May 21, was struck by a severe hailstorm that caused visible damage to the aircraft's nose. The aircraft had sought entry into Pakistani airspace to circumvent the weather, but this was denied by Pakistani authorities. The IATA VP also commented on the decision of India and Pakistan to close their airspace for carriers flying out from these countries, saying that airspace should not become a tool in disputes. 'We believe airspace should not be used as a tool in disputes and should remain neutral. Unfortunately, that's not always been the the meantime, airlines find a way around, but it does have an impact. It could increase the cost and time. Primarily, we hope that airspace will be managed accordingly and open for everybody to use safely and efficiently,' he said. Earlier on Monday, while addressing the IATA's 81st Annual General Meeting, PM Modi had outlined three foundational pillars driving India's aviation sector: first, a vast market--not merely a collection of consumers but a reflection of India's aspirational society. Second, a strong demographic and talent pool--where young innovators are pioneering breakthroughs in artificial intelligence, robotics, and clean energy. Third, an open and supportive policy ecosystem--enabling industrial growth. PM Modi emphasised that with these strengths, India is poised to elevate its aviation sector to unprecedented heights.
