
Shura Council delegation concludes visit to Switzerland

A delegation from the Shura Council, headed by Chairman of the Council's Internal and External Affairs Committee, HE Yousef bin Ali Al Khater, concluded a several-day visit to the Swiss Confederation.
During the visit, the delegation met with President of the National Council of Switzerland, Maja Riniker, and Member of the Swiss National Council and President of the Swiss-Qatari Friendship Group, Hans Portmann.
The meetings addressed existing cooperation between the Shura Council and the Swiss Parliament, ways to develop them to serve mutual interests, and discussed a number of parliamentary issues of common interest.
The delegation also discussed Qatari-Swiss relations as well as the latest regional and international developments during a meeting with Head of the Middle East and North Africa Department at the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, Monika Kirgoz.
During the visit, the delegation also met with Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), Martin Chungog; Deputy High Commissioner in the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Kelly Clements; and Deputy UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Nada Al Nashif.
Discussions during the meeting dealt with a host of topics of mutual interest.

Shura Council participates in Parliamentary Conference on Interfaith Dialogue in Rome
ROME: The Shura Council has participated in the Second Parliamentary Conference on Interfaith Dialogue in the Italian capital, Rome. Held under the title 'Strengthening trust and embracing hope for our common future', the conference was organised by the Inter-Parliamentary Union, in partnership with the Parliament of Italy and with support from Religions for Peace. HE Nasser bin Mohammed Al Nuaimi and HE Abdullah bin Nasser bin Turki Al Subaie, members of the Shura Council, represented the council at the three-day event. The conference featured discussion sessions on ways to promote peaceful coexistence among peoples, prevent religious defamation, uphold shared values, and combat hate speech based on religion or belief. It also discussed the importance of ethical leadership, investment in education for peace, and promotion of solidarity with vulnerable groups, including refugees, migrants, and people affected by humanitarian crises. It shared good practices for activating parliamentary cooperation with religious and social actors. In the conference's closing statement, participants emphasized a number of shared principles, most notably: promoting the values of mutual respect and human dignity, rejecting the use of religion or belief to justify violence or incite hatred, and calling for the consolidation of a culture of dialogue and openness and building bridges of understanding between different societies. The statement also emphasised the importance of supporting freedom of thought and belief and the need to strengthen partnerships between parliaments and religious leaders in addressing global challenges, thus contributing to building more just and cohesive societies.
