Who are the defending champions at Wimbledon?
Barbora Krejcikova of the Czech Republic and Carlos Alcaraz of Spain won the 2024 singles titles. Krejcikova defeated Jasmine Paolini 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 for her second Grand Slam title and first at the All England Club.
Alcaraz beat seven-time Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic 6-2, 6-2, 7-6 (4) to win his second consecutive trophy at the grass-court major — defeating Djokovic each time — and his fourth Slam title overall, a total Alcaraz has now raised to five at age 22.
Who are the top seeds at the All England Club?
Aryna Sabalenka is the top-seeded woman, and Jannik Sinner is the top-seeded man. They are the players ranked No. 1, and the tournament seedings — which were officially released Thursday — follow the WTA and ATP rankings.
For the women, French Open champion Coco Gauff is seeded No. 2, Jessica Pegula No. 3, and Paolini No. 4. For the men, Alcaraz is No. 2, Alexander Zverev No. 3, and Jack Draper No. 4.
What is new this year at Wimbledon?
The All England Club will use electronic line-calling during matches for the first time, replacing line judges. That puts Wimbledon in line with the Australian Open and the US Open, leaving the French Open as the last major where humans still make in or out calls — at least for now.

'We Were Supporting Him But...': Irfan Makes Stunning Claim About Rohit's Sydney Interview
Last Updated: Irfan Pathan has critiqued Rohit Sharma's Test performance, saying that he did not merit a spot in the XI despite his white-ball skills. Former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan has said that although the anchors and presenters were cordial with Rohit Sharma during his interview with the host broadcasters after he dropped himself from the Sydney Test, everyone knew he didn't deserve a place in the playing XI. In a teaser video released by Lallantop on Wednesday, Irfan acknowledged Rohit 's white-ball brilliance but highlighted his poor Test performances. Across eight Tests in 2024 against Bangladesh, New Zealand and Australia, Rohit scored only 164 runs, with a single fifty. Irfan pointed out that if Rohit were not the skipper, his performances could have seen him dropped from the playing XI. 'Rohit Sharma is an amazing player in white-ball cricket, but his average in Tests that year was six, so we said that if he was not the skipper, he wouldn't have had a place in the team and this is true," Irfan said. Amidst growing criticism and doubts over his Test future, Rohit was left out of the Sydney series finale. 'People say that we supported Rohit Sharma more than necessary. Of course, when someone comes to interview on your broadcasting channel, you will not misbehave with them, right? You have invited him, so you will behave politely," Irfan said. 'When Rohit came to interview, we were, of course, polite and we had to show that, because he was our guest. So that was connected and said that we were supporting him, but it was we who said…we had said that he should keep fighting, but that said, he shouldn't have had a place in the playing XI," Irfan added. Rohit's decision to sit out of the Sydney Test should not be misconstrued as a retirement decision, he had said. 'This decision is not a retirement decision. Nor am I going to take myself out of the game," Rohit said while speaking to Star Sports. But four months later, in May, he announced his retirement from Tests. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Cincinnati Open: Alcaraz, Sinner march to quarterfinals
Cincinnati [US], August 14 (ANI): Rivals Carlos Alcaraz and world number one Jannik Sinner secured wins in their respective round of 16 matches at the Cincinnati Open, making it to the final eight of the tournament. Alcaraz made it to the quarters on Wednesday night, securing a 6-1, 6-4 win over Italy's Luca Nardi. The world number two was dominant from word go, winning 13 of first 14 points of the match and took only 27 minutes to win the first set. But in the second set, Alcaraz found himself trailing 2-4, before tallying four successive games and making it to the final eight with the match lasting 80 minutes. Speaking about his match as quoted by ATP's official website, Alcaraz said, 'I think this match was the best so far for me in this tournament. At the beginning of the tournament, I just really wanted to get better every day, after every practice and every match. I think I'm doing it, which I'm really proud about. I am just really happy with the way I felt the ball today and the way that I moved."So far in this tour on the other hand, Sinner has won all of his six sets, gaining another climb towards regaining his title, overcoming French qualifier Adrian Mannarino 6-4, 7-6(4) in a match which was disrupted by rain. Sinner was not at his most free-flowing, but still managed to grind out a win despite a two-hour, 45 minute rain delay, which started during the second set start. Speaking about his match, Sinner said, 'He is a very tough opponent. Very different from other opponents, not only because he is a lefty but how he hits the ball. It is very low. I just tried to serve well and tried to see what I could do in the return games."'He was serving very well, especially on the Ad side, on the wide one was very precise. I changed the position, trying to make him feel uncomfortable. I struggled a bit to close it out, but this can happen in this sport, and I am very happy to be in the next round," he added. After this win in one hour and 48 minutes, Sinner's win streak on hard court has extended to 24 matches, surpassing that of Serbian icon Novak Djokovic (23 wins in 2015) as he climbed to eighth place on the list of the longest hard-court winning streaks of this century. His last loss on the surface dates back to October, against Alcaraz in the Beijing final. (ANI)
