Zara McDermott And Louis Tomlinson Spark Dating Rumours After Dinner Outing
Louis Tomlinson appears to have a new romantic connection. In March 2025, The Sun fueled dating rumours when it ran photos of the former One Direction singer having dinner with British reality star and documentary filmmaker Zara McDermott at a Suffolk hotel. Sources told the British tabloid that the pair had been seen on 'a handful of low-key dates over the past few weeks.'
Neither Tomlinson nor McDermott has publicly confirmed their relationship.

McDermott first rose to fame as a contestant on Love Island UK in 2018, but she has since transitioned into a career in television presenting and documentary filmmaking. Below, everything we know about her background, career, and connection to Tomlinson.
Speculation about McDermott and Tomlinson's relationship began in early March after fans noticed that Tomlinson's sisters Lottie, Daisy, and Phoebe had followed McDermott on Instagram. McDermott follows them as well, along with Tomlinson, who follows her back. He liked a post she shared on March 1:
More evidence of the pair's potential romantic connection came out days later. On March 17, The Sun ran photos of the rumoured couple at a Suffolk hotel. They had dinner there, with an eyewitness telling the outlet, 'Louis and Zara were having a great time. They were touching hands over the table and looked so happy and relaxed.'
A source claimed that Tomlinson had taken her there for a getaway, during which 'he absolutely charmed her. It's clear he thinks she's drop-dead gorgeous too. Louis is a proper gentleman so this trip was something he planned and put on for Zara. He was really thoughtful and wanted to make it special.'
A source claimed to The Sun that while the two stars see potential in their connection, they are not rushing into anything. 'They share the same values and are both incredibly close with their families,' the insider began, adding, 'For now they're taking things slowly and enjoying each other's company to see where it takes them.'
McDermott made her reality TV debut on season 4 of Love Island, entering the villa as a 'bombshell' contestant. She coupled up with fellow contestant Adam Collard but was eliminated from the show 10 days later.
After appearing on Love Island, McDermott made a pivot in her career. She now works in television presenting and documentary work, primarily with BBC Three. She has produced and hosted a number of investigative documentaries, tackling topics such as rape culture and disorder eating.
In 2021, McDermott released a BBC Three Revenge Porn documentary, where she opened up about her personal experience of having intimate images shared without her consent.
McDermott has since produced several additional documentaries, including Disordered Eating (exploring the rise of eating disorders among young people), Uncovering Rape Culture (investigating sexism in U.K. schools), and The Idaho Murders: Trial by TikTok (examining social media's impact on high-profile criminal cases).
On Instagram, she hinted her next documentary would cover stalking. On March 17, she wrote, 'It's our final week of filming for my documentary about stalking, and honestly it's been one of the most eye opening, emotional films I've ever made. I've learnt so much about the strength of victims / survivors through this process… some of these women are the strongest I've ever met. Stalking is one of the most isolating crimes out there.'

In 2023, McDermott participated in the U.K.'s Strictly Come Dancing, a British television show similar to Dancing with the Stars. Partnered with professional dancer Graziano Di Prima, she was ultimately eliminated from the competition. Following the season, McDermott spoke publicly about her training experience, revealing that she found certain aspects of the process 'distressing.'
In 2024, McDermott became an ambassador for U.K. domestic abuse organisation Refuge. She has worked with the organisation for years, notably collaborating on its 2020 Naked Threat campaign. The project led the U.K. government to criminalise threats to share someone's intimate photos.
Speaking about her role as an ambassador, McDermott said, 'Using my platform to advocate against abuse has been incredibly important to me throughout my career, so I am thrilled to be joining Refuge as an ambassador.'
She added, 'Since sharing my experiences of intimate image abuse, I have been taken aback by the sheer scale of this horrific form of abuse, with many survivors sharing their own stories with me. Alongside Refuge, I will continue striving to shed light on the realities of domestic abuse and show survivors that they are not alone.'
During Refuge's 50th anniversary event at Clarence House in January 2022, McDermott joined other advocates and public figures, including Queen Camilla, to mark the milestone.
During a March 6, 2025 interview with Loose Women, McDermott emphasised the importance of recognising red flags in relationships, saying, 'Nowadays, especially with social media, looking at things like "Oh, he wants me to share my location with him all the time," "He wants me to put a tracker on my car" — that is actually really common.'
Beyond her work in television, McDermott has also ventured into fashion. In 2024, she launched Rise, a casual womenswear brand, which initially debuted at Tesco's F&F Clothing in April before expanding into an elevated loungewear and athleisure line called Rise Black Label, sold at New Look.
Before being linked to Tomlinson, McDermott was in a five-year relationship with British reality star Sam Thompson, best known for Made in Chelsea. The couple's relationship was documented on the show, including a highly publicised breakup in 2020 following McDermott's admission of infidelity during her time on The X Factor: Celebrity. They reconciled shortly after but ultimately split in December 2024.

Instagram Says Trial Reels Have Helped Creators Significantly Increase Their Reach
This story was originally published on Social Media Today. To receive daily news and insights, subscribe to our free daily Social Media Today newsletter. Instagram's trial Reels have been available for just on six months now, and IG is keen to get more creators trying out its audience sampling feature, in order to help boost content performance. As you can see in this example sequence, trial Reels are shown to a selection of users who don't follow your profile, which can give you early insight into the likely performance of your Reel. To be clear, trial Reels are not displayed to your followers, either in the main Feed or via the Reels tab. The idea is that this gives you an unbiased assessment of content quality, while also helping you potentially reach a broader audience. Which some have also used as a growth hack of sorts, in that you can get your content in front of a broader audience in the app by only showing your Reels to people who don't follow you. Within that, you can also re-post older posts as trial Reels as well, and some creators have found this to be an effective way to build their audience. Another element to consider. 'Approximately 24 hours after sharing a trial reel, you can view engagement data, such as views, likes, comments and shares. The more trial reels you create, the more insights you'll have to compare against other trial reels and the more understanding you'll have on what might perform best.' You're limited to 20 trial Reels per day, but outside of that, you can test and measure your initial Reels' response, which can then help to inform your content strategy. And for those who are using trial Reels, they have proven effective: 'After trying trial reels, 40% of creators started posting reels more often and of those who did, 80% saw an increase in reels reach from non-followers.' So it can help to guide your thinking on what to post, while you can also easily convert trial Reels into regular posts, which will then be shared with your followers. It could be a valuable tool in your IG strategy, and as Instagram notes, many creators are finding this a valuable tool for audience sampling. And IG clearly wants more creators to try it out. If you are thinking about adopting trial Reels, you need to have a professional account (though IG also says that some creators without a professional account may have access to trial reels as part of ongoing testing). You can activate a trial Reel in the publish element of the Reels upload process. Sign in to access your portfolio

‘Love Island USA' Contestant Yulissa Escobar Apologizes for Using Racial Slur After Being Kicked Off Show: ‘I Didn't Know Better Then, but I Do Now'
'Love Island USA' contestant Yulissa Escobar has released a statement apologizing for using racial slurs in past podcast clips that resurfaced online. 'In those clips, I used a word I never should've used, a racial slur,' Escobar wrote on her Instagram account. 'I used it ignorantly, not fully understanding the weight, history, or pain behind it. I wasn't trying to be offensive or harmful, but I recognize now that intention doesn't excuse impact. And the impact of that word is real. It's tied to generations of trauma, and it is not mine to use.' More from Variety 'Love Island USA' Is Back: Here's How to Watch Season 7 Online 'Love Island' Spinoff 'Beyond the Villa' Greenlit for Summer Premiere With Cast Including JaNa, Serena, Leah and Other Season 6 Stars Luminate Streaming Ratings: 'Cobra Kai,' 'Love Island USA,' 'Find Me Falling' and 'Hillbilly Elegy' Top TV and Film Charts July 19-25 She continued: 'At the time, I was speaking casually in conversation, not thinking deeply or critically about what I was saying. But that doesn't take away from how wrong it was. The truth is, I didn't know better then, but I do now. I've taken the time to reflect, to learn, and to grow from that moment.' Escobar was removed from the villa during the second episode of Season 7, which aired on Peacock on Wednesday, with minimal context about the reason behind her departure. Shortly after Peacock announced the original 'Love Island USA' cast ahead of its June 3 premiere, fans exposed the ex-islander for her controversial past, vowing to vote her off the show once submissions opened. In the clips obtained by TMZ, she is heard saying the N-word several times while discussing past relationships. 'I've changed a lot since then, not just in how I speak, but in how I show up, how I carry myself, and how I honor the experiences of others,' Escobar wrote. 'Growth means recognizing when you were wrong, even if it's uncomfortable, and choosing to move forward with humility and accountability.' In her apology, Escobar also addressed claims of false statements about her character circulating online since her exit. 'There have also been fake statements circulating, things written or said by others that don't reflect me or my heart,' Escobar continued in her post. 'I want to clarify that this is my voice and my words. I don't need anyone to speak for me. I'm choosing to speak for myself because I take full ownership of my actions. Do not listen to the fake statements. This is my official statement. This is me speaking directly to you. To those who are disappointed or offended, I understand, and I apologize. I am sorry.'
